Windscreen Washer filter Top Tip! Save £170!
Greydog replied to Emmo's topic in The Owners Club General Discussions
Top Man 😁 -
Morning Trey They are out there old Alpina's and the like If you are the type who loves working on your car you can achieve amazing things. I have seen an E91 530d with 400hp and 950nm torque mid range acceleration that makes M5 owners weep plus 30mpg. What gets missed is the money and hours invested an M5 would have cost less 😁 How ever what the owner has is unique and it's his, who knows one day it will turn up as a barn find

That will get the job done ☺️

Good News Andy When looking at realoem and newtis if there are any "extension or connection looms" needed you will see where they are and what the part number is. As an example my X5 had a Motorola phone in the arm rest I converted to Bluetooth which is straight forward but needed an extension loom and eject box which were easy to find (Ebay) and easy to fit "Plug and play". With the diagnostic program it isn't just fault finding you can register stuff to the chassis if needed as well as turning on functions that BMW leave turned off and would obviously charge for. Dave

NEWBIE!!! Codes from ISTA D & advice needed!!!!
Greydog replied to DAvvid's topic in BMW X1 Series Forum
Hi Davvid Who replaced the battery? it may need registering to the car or it may not charge correctly You can do it using ISTA Dave -
Hi Andy Welcome to the forum Have you cross checked part numbers as trim parts often are used in several models if you aren't aware www.realoem.com put the last 7 digits of the vin in the search box and check part numbers. I would also check out www.newtis.info to look for howto's as it is a BMW technical site Dealer level information. Both sites have exploded drawings so you should get/see all the information you need. On a 2006 model most of the harness should be in place with only heater switches needed and plugged in again the lumber adjustment are the seats electric adjustment? if the plugs are there then you probably need fuses and relays As the original seats had airbags disconnecting the battery should throw lights on re connection When I got the BMW I brought BMW 1.4.0 a diagnostic program which I keep on an old laptop it allows me to do lots of stuff and keep the old girl up to date. Bmw 320d feels heavy time to time
Greydog replied to Malik7867's topic in The Owners Club General Discussions
Hi Muhammad Welcome to the Forum If the belt is not fitted correctly it can slip fray or come off completely. If that happens and it catches other stuff it could become a lot more expensive than just a belt and tensioner. I have seen a frayed belt that destroyed the aircon pump so fix sooner than later is my advice Dave -
Morning Mark Life was simpler with fixed service points modern cars measure all sorts of parameters before a service light comes on, however not everyone gets the car serviced even to these schedules. BMW normally recommend 15k oil changes Tyre and Fluid checks full service is around 30k intervals. Extended service is based on synthetic oils durability but 44k is stretching a point. I still change oil and filter twice a year for me there is a perverse (my sons would say OCD) pleasure in seeing clean oil on the dip stick of the X5 even at 160k There are lots of cars out there Mark buy with your head not your heart why put your hard earned at risk Dave

Newbie query and Intro. EfficientDynamics or not??
Greydog replied to sneakybet's topic in New Members Welcome
Morning Paul Welcome to the Forum I am not certain but I thought Efficient Dynamics models were introduced around 2008 on the 1 series not sure for the 3 series, 128g/km is the Efficient Dynamics 2.0d CO2 figure though As far as I recall cars with efficient dynamic packs have, Stop Start, Brake Regeneration, Air Vent Control, Electric Power Steering Take a look at BMW Vin Decoder it should pull up your build sheet if any of these are missing I guess it isn't Efficient Dynamics Personally I don't like stickers anywhere as often they are just Advertising for the supplying dealer who probably hasn't seen the car for many years so I remove them Good Luck and Enjoy your new car Dave -
Just had a look I can't believe I couldn't see on e in Ashford ??? Found them in Sevenoaks, Bexley, Dover, Dartford, Maidstone and Strood What the hell do they drive in Ashford ?? Dave

If the battery wasn't registered to the car it quite possibly hasn't been receiving a correct charge. I would start by hooking up a good charger/battery re conditioner for as long as possible. I use a Ctek MXS 5 I still hook up my X5 once a month over night. If you don't have a charger then start the car and let it run to charge as you already worked out. A healthy battery should test as 12.8v ignition off around 14v engine running/charging. The slow/hard start could have been the original battery dying then continued as the new battery wasn't registered to the car. The original battery should have been 70ah AGM 800cca or something close. The diagnostic program I use is BMW 1.4.0 it comes with all the leads to connect to the car BMW INSTA/INPA like wise both programs are easy to find online INSTA is the most comprehensive being Garage quality in all the functions available but 1.4.0 has served me well. Hope this helps Dave

Morning Joe Welcome to the Forum What a great find ENJOY For a BMW Specialist Garage try https://the-bmw-specialist-register.com. you should be able to find one near you but as the old saying goes check them out talk to customers if you can. All manufacturers have for some time touted extended service intervals based mainly on long life oils. However as an old engineer I don't trust extended period servicing a lot can go wrong in 24 months so I have a regime of oil and filters 6 monthly and I inspect all bushes tyres & wheels (inside and out) I have a diagnostic program BMW 1.4.0 on an old lap top so run a scan. One service is carried out by my local BMW Specialist to keep the book stamped and the interim by me. My Brother inlaw has a 530d touring (his 3rd) he commutes into Germany for work so all have inter galactic mileages he used RS ECU Tuning on all 3 it adds around 40hp and a shed load of torque with very little effect on MPG or reliability so win win. Good Luck with the new motor Dave

Hi Josh A general code reader certainly wont read all the control units, your diesel has a a fuel relay as well worth checking, as are the glow plugs controller and relay. A BMW specific code reader will be a help with the 328i as well. I use BMW 1.4.0 and it finds everything and in English to Two things come to mind from your description (1) starter motor, if the starter is on it's way you could be getting massive current draw at start killing the battery then once started you get malfunctions due to low battery voltage. So check the current draw at start use a clamp Ammeter there are cases of 900+ amps being drawn by failing starters. My thinking is dealers tend to hook up to power boosters as they do a lot of diagnostics engine off. (2) What is the battery condition/age as a dying battery can give similar symptoms. Dave
-
Hi Josh Welcome to the Forum Dealers can be great at throwing OUR money at problems they should be able to fix!!! Do you have access to a diagnostic program? If not a copy of INPA/INSTA on a lap top or BMW 1.4.0 are a great help and not horrendously expensive Foxwell also have some excellent readers but a little more expensive. If you use a code reader with www.newtis.info a BMW Technical information site (Dealers use this same information) for repair and replacement of stuff and have reasonable DIY skills you should be OK. Use www.realoem.com to make sure you have correct part numbers when replaceing stuff just put the last 7 digits of your Vin into the search box it will bring up your model. When you say hard start does it crank but no start or is it lazy cranking? if it's cranking well it could be an intermittent fault with the crank sensor as the dealer has indicated fuel pressure is OK. I hope the information helps Dave

NEWBIE!!! Codes from ISTA D & advice needed!!!!
Greydog replied to DAvvid's topic in BMW X1 Series Forum
Morning Davvid Welcome to the Forum First when I got my X5 as an old engineer I have a need to know?? So one of the first things I discovered was BMW insisted the gearbox and drive train were sealed for life. That just didn't sit well with me so investigate and after talking with ZF who make the gearbox discovered they recommend fluid and filter changes every 60k so it seemed to me BMW "Life" was end of their warranty. Needless to say my old E53 has had transmission/transfer box and diff oils/fluids changed every 60k. Your screen shot only shows 1 permanent fault with the PDC as it says no communication I would suspect the module. Check the connector give it a spray with contact cleaner. clear all faults and see what comes back, if it returns check www.realoem.com for the part number and buy another new/used one. If you haven't used this before put the last 7 digits of your Vin in the search box it will bring up your model. Steering angle sensors show when battery voltage drops below parameters or when the battery is disconnected, driving forward while going lock to lock should clear/reset it. So basically clear down all faults short drive and see what comes back Dave -
Morning Kevin Welcome to the Forum Take care when buying tyres for your X5 mis-matched tyres will cause damage to the transfer box and diffs. The X5 E53 was available with 17" 235x65 tyres square set up 18" 255x55 tyres square set up 19" tyres 255x50 Front 285x45 Rear Staggered set up. 20" tyres 275x40 Front 315x35 Rear Staggered setup. Your car has the standard 17" spare wheel which with the correct tyre size matches the rolling radius of the 18" wheels fitted. 17 and 18 square set up tend to be a quieter/softer ride due to the sidewall depth also the range and price of tyres available, 19 and 20's staggered need more care as when buying as a difference in rolling radius front to rear will cause damage to the drive train. Tyres in these sizes also tend to be fewer and more expensive and due to the stiffer side wall a harsher ride. As the old saying we make our choice and pay our money!! Obviously the bigger wheels were not just aesthetics they allow larger brakes as well My 4.6is runs 20" staggered wheels with summer tyres and I have a set of 18" winter wheels and tyres Later X5 E70 models were available with 21" wheel sets but E70 wheels have different wheel centre bore sizes so require spigot rings for correct fitting. Greydog replied to faraz's topic in The Owners Club General Discussions
Hi Faraz Welcome to the forum Just varients of the B48 engine I have no experience of them but from what I have read compared to the 6 cylinder engines they sound tractor like. One comment was 2.0 B48= Tractor 335 6 cylinder = s*x Me I would save a bit more and go 335i Dave -
screen (and computer) restarting repeatedly 320 d, 2015,
Greydog replied to Ehsan's topic in BMW 3 Series Forum
Morning Ehsan Welcome to the Forum First try the old hard restart trick, disconnect the battery (neg first) and leave it for around 15 min before reconnecting (neg last) this often resets the computers. If that doesn't cure it then you need the codes read by someone with BMW specific software that is capable of reading the Nav and Comms software. Without the code read you are guessing and so are we. Hi Neil Welcome to the Forum Unfortunately not an isolated occurrence these sensor dont last well (I gave up on my TPMS years ago) Makes me mad that BMW are saying unless they change the tyres then your on your own. I did read about Amazon selling VDO TPMS sensors for about £30 each worth having a look at them and Ebay. Of course the big issue is the tyre has to come off to fit them, still cheaper than BMW though Check www.realoem.com put the last 7 digits of your Vin into the search box it will call up your model then check wheels section to get the part number that way you know it will work, remember BMW buy them too Dave
-
Hi Fabian Sadly if it's not in the parts list then it seems they expect you to buy a complete new storage box !!! I would search Ebay and contact the specialist BMW breakers Just had a quick look at realoem and found this part number for the catch is 02 Centre arm rest lock 1 51169232069

Morning Fabian Welcome to the Forum Take a look at www.realoem.com it is a BMW online parts list if there is a replacement part that is where you will find the part number. Just put the last 7 digits of your Vin number into the search box it will bring up your model. If there is a part take a look at www.newtis.info This site is a BMW technical information site BMW Dealers and Technicians use this for repair and replacement information. Dave

Morning Charlie Check the MOT on the Government web site https://www.gov.uk/check-mot-history You will be able to check ALL MOT's plus any outstanding recalls. Quite probably a Part Exchange car. With regard to checking an engine, even a brand new motor can have mechanical failures so there can never be any concrete guarantees, however the car has covered a fairly light mileage for it's age so with a good service history and receipts for work done it seems a reasonable buy to me. Remember to still haggle, tyre condition interior condition carpets etc over mats anything that will allow you to save a bit of your hard earned Good Luck Dave

Hi Gus An intermittent fault seems more likely to be a leak somewhere, I would start with all the vacuum lines before the pressure side. Have you blanked the EGR? if you did make sure the actuator line is plugged. All the vacuum lines can be prone to cracking with age so check very carefully Good Luck Dave
-
Hi Charlie Welcome to the Forum Private or Dealer? Always remember you get more protection (Sale of Goods Act) buying from a Dealer No matter where you buy, service history and receipts are essential, check the MOT history a well sorted and looked after car will have few if any advisories. Make sure everything works as it should there are no "only £5 on ebay mate fixes" if there were why haven't they been done? If it still looks good then as they old saying goes "we pay our money and make our choice" Good hunting Dave

Hi Rob Welcome to the Forum Does your car have Business or Professional audio set up? To be sure look at BMW Vin Decoder put the last 7 digits of your Vin into the search box and it will bring up the build sheet for your car. Then look at www.newtis.info This is a BMW Technical information site (BMW Dealers use the same information) Vin time again then you should be able to find all you need for Test Replacement and Repair. Use www.realoem.com to find the correct part numbers for all components if you are replacing stuff. Often you will be told that items need "coding" don't be scared off. Parts will still work you will just get a tamper dot in the display you probably have one already from the aftermarket CD Changer (I take it you mean a 6 CD changer mounted in the boot) a BMW specific diagnostic program will find the problem without guess work and you can also program units to your chassis. I use BMW 1.4.0 on an old laptop it only cost about £10 and I find it invaluable. Dave
