Morning Dave Welcome to the Forum I don't think BMW like many others manufacturers supply a spare wheel. They seem to think runflats are enough?? Idid read of a company called "Modern Spare" who produce kits for several makes Google should help. On my X5 I have a bicycle type skinny spare due to the different size front/rear set up I also have a can of tyre goo and a Tyre inflator/compressor. Touches wood I have only used the goo and compressor on a friends car Good luck with the hunt Dave

N47 177hp turbo acctuator help !
Greydog replied to Mindaugas's topic in The Owners Club General Discussions
Does that mean it's fixed Dan ? -
Morning Luke Welcome to the Forum You dont say what engine you have ? Check www.realoem.com put the last 7 digits of your Vin into the search box it will bring up your model. Then check the exhaust section that will tell you what is available from BMW. If there are no OEM square tips then you will have to search the After Market decent quality wont be cheap Good hunting Dave
-
Maybe ask them to put it in writing then if there is an issue print it on a bat and go visit the Service Manager 🤣 Being serious I would have thought you will be OK even my old X5 managed 3 to 4 weeks when we were away Dave
-
Morning Paul Welcome to the Forum Not sure what engine size you have but I would think a replacement around the 70 to 90ah range would be OK Check www.realoem.com put the last 7 digits of your Vin into the search box, you will see your model called up then look in the relevant section for the information you need. The web site is a BMW online parts list same information that Dealers use. As your car is shall we say "of an age" (bit like me) the battery wont require registering to the chassis so battery type shouldn't be an issue either. A healthy battery should show 12.8v measured at the charging points under the bonnet engine off, 14.5+v engine running Good Luck Dave

Morning David Welcome to the Forum That's a different question !! Where will the car be left? If it is at the airport or home ? As the car is new I would think 2 to 3 weeks will be OK (What do BMW say) if unsure and the car is at home then something like a C-tec intelligent charger left connected at the under bonnet charge points should do the job. Enjoy your new car Dave

Z4 factory service/repair manual ...?
Greydog replied to wildbill's topic in BMW Z3 & Z4 Series Forum
All BMW Dealer service and repair information has been Digital since the early 2000's I still think a copy of INPA mounted on a laptop would be a great help to you, good work on the ignition switch Most important ENJOY your Z4 Dave -
Hi Keith Welcome to the Forum A friend of our sons has CarPlay in his 1 series I will ask him how as everything looks to be OEM Dave

Hi Shaun Welcome to the Forum First things to check are all the hoses are secure and not split Then check the oil feed to the turbo, if oil has been leaking into the inlet side you may well have EGR issues or oil in the intercooler. If you can't find something loose or split it may be you are in the garages hands. Sorry Dave

Morning Mindaugas First who has said it should have 200+ hp ? Removing the EGR and Swirl flaps will add no power, a remap on a standard and possibly/probably worn engine will (I guess) increase power by between 10% and 20% depending on engine/turbo/injector/exhaust condition. So do you know what your base line was before starting the upgrades? If your car was a Fleet variant it would have come from the factory de-tuned to 150ish HP if it was the top engine spec it would have had 170ish HP The only way to measure would be to ensure the engine/turbo etc is in tip top condition and have a session on a rolling road, then carry out the mods and onto the rollers again. Just taking someones word that you will get X HP doesn't mean it will happen, they will always have a get out that something mechanical is the cause of power loss. Your figure of 235hp would be a 30%+ increase in power on a top spec 177hp engine in good condition. I have tuned a few of my own cars over the years and to see a 30% gain will not be easy or cheap. As Carol Shelby famously said "Speed cost's money so how fast can you afford to go" Sorry if this isn't what you wanted to hear Dave

Morning Brian Welcome to the Forum The BMW straight 6 is one of the worlds great engines and the beating heart of your car is one of those. With good maintenance it will give many years of happy ownership. Are you a home mechanic or do you prefer others to do the oily bits? ENJOY your Beemer Dave

Z4 factory service/repair manual ...?
Greydog replied to wildbill's topic in BMW Z3 & Z4 Series Forum
Morning Bill If memory serves (dangerous at my age) Bentley published repair manuals in the US worth checking As an old engineer with a need to know I have always had manuals for every car I have owned (even the new ones under warranty) Then in the 90's when all marques moved towards Diagnostic program's technical and service information was included in these program's hence your PDF problem. On my old laptop I have copies of Mercedes Star, Volvo, BMW, Toyota and VW Audi. All because I have owned or family have owned these Marques and even when they were Dealer serviced it is good to know what is happening. I have experienced one of my Mercedes that I scanned and was showing 2 faults both gearbox related going for regular service telling the service manager about the Gearbox issues, then on collection being told they could find no fault only to re-run my scan and the faults were still there and still present ?? It took quite a fight to get them to correct the issue which without diagnostics they denied were there. Good luck with your search Dave -
Morning Willie Welcome to the Forum Apart from a genius in BMW's design department deciding to put the chain at the rear of the engine meaning work on the chains and tensioners is an engine out job !! However the well published issue's tended to be with the early 4 cylinder engines more than the 6 cylinder's. My experience of these engines comes from my brother inlaw having now owned 5 x 5 series touring 2x 530d 2x 535d and his current 540d xDrive. All his cars are ecu tuned all have had full BMW Dealer histories to ensure the best trade in. All his cars have run to 200k + to help the car we carry out 5k oil and filter changes and a general inspection. Apart from some EGR and swirl flap issues with the early cars (all taken care of under warranty) there have been no issues. In fact his first 535d was purchased by one of the BMW Tech's at his Dealership who still owns it. Dave

Morning Chris Welcome to the Forum Very nice Enjoy Dave

Hi Shaun All the accessories should go to sleep when the car does, the cigarette lighter doesn't. So any accessory power feed should be OK just check the fuse map. The dash cam I have in my X5 has run off the Torch supply for 5 years with no issue Good luck finding the solution Dave

Hi Larry Welcome to the Forum You need a Diagnostic session even an intermittent fault will be recorded as "Fault not Present" but it will tell you what it was/is Dave

Z4 factory service/repair manual ...?
Greydog replied to wildbill's topic in BMW Z3 & Z4 Series Forum
Morning Bill Now don't go dragging us Brit's into BMW's dodgy decisions 😆 I have copies of BMW Diagnostic programs on an old Laptop BMW 1.4.0 and BMW ISTA/INPA which includes technical repair information, the downside it doesn't get BMW updates. Not an issue as most of the BMW's I see are friends and family and are a few years old anyway. Total cost was less than $100 US A couple of sites I use in conduction with the Diagnostics are www.realoem.com BMW online parts list just put the last 7 digits of your Vin in the search box it will bring up your model then look in the relevant section, makes sure you get the right bits. I also use www.pelcanparts.com great site with excellent "How Too's" complete with pictures it's a US site so it will have the steering wheel on the side you like 🤣 Hope this is a help Dave PS Just checked Ebay and there are copies of ISTA/INPA for £55 (about 80 or 90 dollars) -
What a mess have you contacted BMW customer services ? You surly can't be the only one ? Dave

Morning Shaun When fitting my brother inlaws dash cam originally I took power from the Torch charging point in the glove box and fitted an inline fuse. The cam has been moved several times over the years the last refit was into his current 540d Touring this time I took power from the Sun Visor light power supply again with an inline fuse, Your 430d has fuse boxes in the glovebox under the bonnet and in the boot the fuse box in the boot should have a fuse chart folded away. Any of the Accessory fuses should be OK to piggyback from Hope this helps Dave

Morning Christof Lucky boy enjoy it when you get it. There has always been and always will be debates on fuel and these days I guess people will fill up at the cheapest station particularly in todays climate plus now we have E10 fuels as well.. My 4.6is has covered 160k at 92k I rebuilt the engine due to the plastic chain guides failing. The car has always been run on regular with a tank of premium every 5th fill up, there is a fair mix of Supermarket brands in there as well. When I stripped the engine the OEM honing marks were still clearly visible in the bores and there was very little carbon build up, which is a testament to the quality of modern fuel and oils. At the rebuild I upgraded the cam and throttle body with Dinan items from the States and a remap to gain the best use of them. Now at 160k a month ago I had the old girl on a rolling road she showed 363hp at the wheels, average mpg has always been between 18 and 19mpg. I am old but I don't drive like Miss Daisies chauffeur winter the car gets plenty of mild off road use and tows a horse trailer most summer weekends A bit of a long winded way of saying give it the best you can I think oil changes at a minimum once a year are more important THE MOST IMPORTANT THING IS ENJOY YOUR BEEMER Dave

Morning Martin Welcome to the Forum A diagnostic scan is needed using something like INPA or BMW 1.4.0 as your issue could be with 1 or more of the system components or a failing LCM If you are a DIY person then I would get a copy of BMW 1.4.0 which you can load onto a Laptop. iI is simple to use and will give Dealer level access and information all scan information is in English so no codes to interpret. If the fault is with one of the units then it can be repaired (Google) or replaced. Today there are several replacement systems available that are in fact cheaper than the OEM equipment. If however it is the LCM failing a replacement can be sourced and contrary to BMW coded to your car (BMW 1.4.0) Dave

Morning Teresa A BMW specific Scan tool such as INPA/ISTA or BMW 1.4.0 will allow you to see and investigate all control modules individually. Because of the configuration often faults in one will throw faults with others as they share information. A recent scan on my own X5 using BMW 1.4.0 showed a DME fault Mass Air Flow. Solution New one fitted a Fault with the Auxiliary Water Pump. Pump tested fine earth issue found and fixed. PDC fault rear center right sensor (As I have a reverse camera not yet fixed) All descriptions are as shown on the fault screen so no guess work or code interpretation. Dave
