  1. The fact the MAF was changed doesn't mean it's working (Been there) so I would double check, 1 is it the correct part for the car and 2 that it works. Throttle body I believe were pretty unchanged from 99 through to 2005/6 they were also used on many other models so check realoem Good Luck Dave
  2. Morning Randy Welcome to the Forum Depending on the model/year the type of transfer case changed and they don't use the same Fluid You can check www.realoem.com (if you aren't aware) just put the last 7 digits of your Vin into the search box it will bring up your model. Early transfer cases the chain can stretch at high mileages or where incorrect tyres are or have been fitted which could be the cause of your vibration. I have rebuilt 2 Transfer cases (both on X5's both victims of incorrect tyres) there are parts available from several sources the job is straight forward but needs the case on the bench. Also worth checking the transmission mounts if they are starting to fail that is another cause. Hope this helps Dave
  3. Morning Nathan From the 1st video it seems the right hand outer lamp is flickers but the left (drivers side) is out 2nd video left lamp is on but after restart not Have the Lamps (bulbs) been changed/checked? It looks as though that is where the issue is I would check all connections make sure all connectors are fully home same with the Lamp (bulb) connectors Dave
  4. Morning Dave Welcome to the Forum The fact that codes are self clearing would indicate they are symptoms not the cause. Check the Mass Airflow Sensor and the Throttle Body I have experienced faulty units with both that didn't throw codes. Your restricted performance would make me think first throttle body or throttle pedal position sender as a starting point. When you scan are all control units seen or are some not responding? (Greyed out) Good Luck Dave
  5. Morning Nathan Welcome to the Forum A little confusing above you say you replaced the right light and the right light is flickering but not the one you replaced?? A quick look at Realoem tells me the part number was for the Left hand lamp. Is it the DRL (eagle Eyes) flickering or the Xenon Headlamps. Flickering could be a failing lamp (Bulb) or an issue with the Control unit First check all the connections pay attention to the Earth points both sides the Xenon control units are high voltage so if you don't know what your doing get either a BMW Specialist or Auto Electrician to help. A Diagnostic scan may help as well. Hope this helps Dave
  6. Morning Welcome to the Forum I take it your US based but the same rules apply where ever you live in the world when buying a used car. A car can have several owners and if just one doesn't care there could be a legacy of wear and tear that isn't obvious at first. So History, History, History and then History. With around a 100k on either car if properly maintained they should both be reliable however Suspension Bushes Shocks Brake Discs and Pads will be suspect unless they have been changed during the servicing. Gearbox normally the most abused part of a car as they are rarely included in service schedules so check that. That would apply to both cars What ever your choice ENJOY Dave
  7. Morning Wayne Welcome to the Forum 1 When was it serviced last ? (not just an oil change) 2 How many miles on the clock ? Black smoke is over fuelling or unburnt fuel, you say the back of your car is covered in soot which would indicate there has been an issue for some time. The jerking could be related or it could be Tyres that are causing it. Your X3 is AWD if front and rear tyres are not matched then damage can be caused to the AWD system. Have you had tyres changed recently? If you are not able or capable of doing the work your self you need a Good Garage or preferably a BMW Specialist to help diagnose and fix it. Dave
  8. You hit the nail on the head it is addictive 😈 I have a neighbour who has a Tesla incredibly quick when its in "Insane" mode but absolutely no soul
  9. Now that sounds like a plan 😁 you should be able to get a solid 400+ whp without waking the neighbours up (much) 😇 Go for it would be my thoughts My X5 4.6is has Dinan Throttle Body Dinan Cams (all 4) and a remap 407 whp after a Rolling road session. The X5 3.0d has a bigger intercooler and remap and has 355 whp but with the diesel its the increase in torque that is the biggest plus. My wife's Subaru Outback has a full Perrin engine upgrade with well over 400 whp 🤣😂 Dave
  10. Morning David Sorry never seen them on a 135i so cant comment I have fitted 100 cell cats to a 4.4i X5 for someone as the old cats were blocked and causing issues. He chose them as they were a far cheaper option than OEM or even aftermarket items from an Exhaust centre, the car runs great and passes it's MOT OK I also had 100 cell cats on 3 of my Volvo T5's but with a stage 3 remap and 3" downpipe (gave 360bhp at the wheels on a rolling road) The tuner advised they were not needed until Stage 3. Radio

Morning Brian Where did the refurbed unit come from are you sure it's OK If the unit is OK are the fuses OK check them all even the one under the Quad lock connector on the radio it's self. If the BM54 and all it's fuses are OK it could be a fault with the FCM (Footwell Control Module) BMW and several specialists will tell you the only answer is a "New FCM" Not so a used FCM can be used but you will see a tamper dot by the mileage as the Mileage stored in the cars IKE and the new FCM wont match. Everything will work though. If you invest in a copy of BMW 1.4.0 (about £30) or know someone with a copy the FCM can be reprogrammed (Many Specialists and BMW will tell you it can't be done) It takes longer to swap the units than it does to reprogram plus if you have your own copy you can run diagnostics whenever you wish and program functions in the car. Good Luck Dave
  12. Great result Andrew What fault did BMW find/fix Dave
  13. Hi Chris If you aren't aware look at www.realoem.com (BMW Parts List) put the last 7 digits of your Vin in to the search box it will call up your model. Then search the brake section if you double click the part number it should show any alternative Part Numbers and Models they were used in An alternative I have used on a 325i that had a handbrake not holding because the teeth on the quadrant had worn was 15mins with the welder and a file to build up and reshape the worn teeth. 3 years later it is still working fine (our Sons friend) Stu is right about Quarry Motors but if they can't help try Googling BMW Specialist Dismantlers there are about half a dozen from memory worth an email or two Dave
  14. Morning Welcome to the Forum If the Z4 is a drop top you have the weather for it 😅 Dave
  15. Morning Jim Welcome to the Forum The motors that fold the mirror's and the ones that tilt the glass are separate, is the selector switch in the right position for the mirror your adjusting? Or is it the tilt on reverse function for the nearside mirror? Not aware of a separate fuse for the tilt adjustment so if it isn't the position of the selector switch a diagnostic session is needed. Good luck hope this helps not hinders Dave
  16. Such a shame that in their arrogance they don't even have the respect for their customers to bother even trying. Don't they realise that without us, their customers they wouldn't have a business 😠 Car still OK fingers crossed Dave
  17. Morning David My X5 E53 20" Type 87 wheels cost £200 to refurb 4 years ago and they didn't need machining or checking for buckle repairs just tyres removed and replaced with balancing So with the increases in Gas and Electricity plus Labour that we have seen I guess it could be there or there about. I suppose the key questions is are you happy with the result? Did you get other quotes? Dave
  18. Morning Brian If your X5 is fitted with the external Amp you will find it in the right hand rear cubby in the boot. If you don't have an external amp then the issue is either the actual speakers or the BM54 radio unit under the floor in the boot. BM54 and speaker issues were fairly common at one time, check all the speakers with a multi-meter the BM54 unit can be changed or repaired Dave
  19. As a big PLUS not only is your roof working but the Sun is still shining 🤣 Enjoy Dave
  20. Morning David Patience young man, the answer is with your chosen Remap supplier normally they will have Stage 1, 2 ,3 packages and will advise if exhaust or other engine work is required to get the best gains from their remap. Also remember a cheap remap will give some gains but the only way to measure is with a rolling road session before and after tuning. Dave
  21. Morning Jane Welcome to the Forum Just when the sun comes out !!! I have only seen this once and it was the boot lid not closing properly due to a load of stuff in the boot. Opened the the boot took several items out and hey presto it all worked. So check the boot is closing and nothing in the boot restricting the space. Next check the fuses are OK and last make sure the roof is fully up and closed properly or it wont work. Good Luck Dave
  22. Morning Sam Welcome to the Forum What a great choice of car like the 1960's Jaguar advert they truly have "Grace, Pace and Space". ENJOY Dave
  23. Morning Paul I have put my thoughts in your other post you could try a post on one of the US sites ? they seem to get faster response for Recall etc maybe there will be more help there. Dave
  24. Morning Paul Document the previous issues plus the current ones, then write to the Managing Director of your supplying Dealer with a copy to BMW UK Customer services. Explain that due to the issues the car is clearly "not suitable for purpose" the fact they say they haven't seen the issue doesn't take away their responsibility to either fix it or replace it. Ask them for a sensible schedule for either repair or replacement as in it's current condition it is clearly unreliable and therefore unusable for the purpose it was purchased for. Good luck keep us up to speed Dave
  25. Morning Mark Welcome to the Forum Straight back to the dealer your EGR has a cooler so it is linked to the cooling system Good Luck Dave
