Morning Steve The small turbo is working hard from low revs the bigger one comes on song mid range so while it is spinning it isnt under load. My logic says if your in there get both checked and refurbed, you will curse if you do one and in a couple of months !!! Also make sure the intercooler is clean inside (no oil) Dave

Morning Andrew Check www.realoem for hoses and routes would be my starting point As the steering feels heavier I would start there check for leaks if the system is conventional hydraulic, there is a breather hose that should draw vapour of into the inlet. If it has the sealed electric rack not sure if you can top those up, also it would not be a source of smoke. Oil can be coming from a worn seals in the turbo or from the pollution control side Good luck with the investigation Dave

Morning Vicky Welcome to the Forum Not heard of this before Vicky is the clicking occurring when stationary or when moving ? If it is happening when moving I would look for evidence of something touching the wheel or other rotating parts. If it is at full lock when stationary then it could be caused by the steering rack reaching it's stop points ? There are a number of things to check (1) were the tie rods correct part numbers for your car (check the delivery note/receipt the outer ball joints as well. Next the inner tie rods are handed (different part numbers left and right) were they fitted correctly? i have never had an issue with Euro Car parts or Lemforder so if there is an issue I would think they would exchange parts with no issues I would make sure the part numbers are correct and fitted in the correct positions before starting a complaint and claim. If the parts are incorrect or indeed faulty then a claim for the cost of rectifying, parts and labour should be with Euro car Parts. However if they are correct parts fitted incorrectly Good Luck Dave

Hi Andrew Blue smoke is an indication that oils is getting into either the Exhaust or Inlet I would check carefully that the oil level is correct (has it been over filled) Next all of the hoses and vacuum lines around the Turbo and and Intercooler, then the inlet side particular attention to the EGR valve and EGR cooler Last it could be Valve stem oils seals As far as I am aware there is an oil cooler arrangement and filter, I guess you have checked www.realoem.com The symbol you describe could be the steering angle sensor is the steering heavy ? Thanks Andy Great information BMW Dealers follow BMW guide lines sadly which has led to there "Technicians" not actually repairing anything, all they do is change units at their customers expense. Then wonder why they don't see many cars outside Warranty?? They will often advise changing complete units even if the cost exceeds the value of the car Dave

Morning So your mechanic was almost right 😅 Tyre sizes are critical when the car is 4x4 as then incorrect sizes will put strain on the transfer case (expensive) but as yours is rear drive as long as the tyres are in reasonable condition and all four wearing evenly then change to the correct sizes when wear dictates. Hi Malcolm Welcome to the Forum I believe if your tyres are on 17" rims they should be 205x50x17 Front and Rear some were fitted with 225x45x17 all round depending on Tyre supplier. If they are 18" rims they will 7 1/2J Front Front and 8 1/2J Rear so Tyre size would be 215x40x18 Front 245x35x18 Rear Hope this helps Dave

Morning Colin ZF who make the box recommend Servicing the box between 80k to 100k kilometres depending on use. So if it hasn't been done yours is well overdue as for price I would think that the service kit and fluid would be between £150 and £300 (the higher being ZF) then add a couple of hours labour £500 isn't so bad Just serviced my own X5 3.0d using Genuine ZF service parts cost for the kit was £320 I also changed the Fluid in the Transfer case and Front and Rear Diffs 4 litres at £25 per litre Dave

Hi Roger First your test if you disconnect the Neg lead and put a test lamp between the Neg lead and the battery the circuit is complete, an ammeter is a far better indication of what's going on. Better still would be a Diagnostic session with BMW ISTA/INPA there are 10 or 20 Control Modules (depending on build spec) all sharing information over a Bus system. A few can be a big problem if they start refusing to talk to the others if a scan is done these Modules will seen as Green, OK. Amber, Partial comms Red No comms Often fixing one will open the system up again. There are now several other BMW capable systems out there. The key not working could be something as simple as the Ignition switch needs changing or possibly the EWS Module. Fingers crossed it is the Ignition switch a fairly simple change if it is the EWS it will need syncing with other modules. So I would start with the Ignition Switch You should have a manual gear release cant remember if it is near the shift or if you have to get under the car Google should help Dave

Hi Tegan Welcome to the Forum My guess would be an issue with either the FCM (Footwell Control Module) or the Junction Box Module. To be sure you will need a diagnostic scan by someone or a Garage that has BMW capable software Autologic, Foxwell, i Carsoft or best BMW ISTA/INPA. There was a recall for the main power feed to the fuse box has that been done ? Worth checking. A BMW Dealer will tell you you need genuine new parts and only they can program them that is not so.
