Bit of a pain to strip down but worth checking the ABS ring is not damaged or just simply clogged with mud rust or other ^rap Dave

Morning Dylan Check your other post I have answered there Dave

Morning Dylan What sort of loony thinks that because a battery is a year old it's OK !!! Even new batteries can fail that is a simple fact. If you are not capable of checking it your self get help. First thing to check, is the Battery correct for your car it should be 90ah 720a Next check the Voltage at the charging points under the bonnet it should be 12.5v to 12.8v engine off anything below 12.0 would indicate a flat or dying battery Now with the engine running test the voltage again, you should see around 14.5 to 14.8 volts this would be from a healthy alternator Last thing to check are the earth points and engine earth straps If your issues remain and all other items above are OK then you need a Diagnostic scan which will help identify the cause Dave

Morning Danny The Wis/Tis only gives the spring as "Sport" I believe the Msport badging includes the aero kit. Measurement seems OK if it still feels as though it wallows check the shocks Dave

Hi Paul Welcome to the Forum That is sad to hear I fear in the headlong rush towards EV the development is lagging as it seems is the snagging!! I have heard of one other recently I hope BMW support you properly Dave

Morning Joe Take a look at www.realoem.com standard disc's I believe are 292x22 vented Front and 300x20 vented Rear, remember rear has the Handbrake drum built in which is why the are slightly larger are standard. Check the wheel hub carrier is the same which should indicate whether the calliper carrier is a straight swap. For comparison M 135i front discs are 338x26 rear are 324x22 My E53 4.6is Front discs are 356x36 rear 324x20 and 18" rims are the smallest that can be fitted with it's winter tyres. My E70 3.0d Front discs are 348x30 Rear 320x20 again 18" rims are smallest to clear the calliper's just make sure the Off Set is correct so the spokes clear the calliper's Nice upgrade Dave

Hi Shaun Try some electrical contact cleaner at the sensor connectors see if that helps Good Luck Dave

Morning Andrew Welcome to the Forum You could try an Automotive Locksmith but after buying the Key and getting them to program it it may well be no cheaper than BMW I fear. A neighbour lost her only key to her Volvo and a new key was a similar price Good Luck Dave

Who did the conversion ? Did they use a genuine M sport kit ? Did they change the Shocks as well? From memory I don't think BMW list springs or conversion kits so I doubt they are BMW. I am aware of Eibach having X5 lowering kits so worth talking to them or one of their UK agents and don't forget the shocks. Of course the ultimate would be Adjustable Coil Overs you could set that up as you need/want it. According to BMW Workshop Information (WIS) and Technical Information (TIS) measure from the bottom centre of the wheel rim to the wheel arch edge. On Steel springs all round (Sport) 18" rims = 700mm 19" rims = 712mm 20" rims 722mm 21" rims 734mm With rear air springs (Sport) 18" rims = 710mm 19" rims = 722mm 20" rims = 732mm 21" rims = 744mm TIS also tells me +/_ 10mm is OK as is +/_ 10mm variance between Drivers side and Passenger side Hope this helps Dave

Yes Joe the car will go to sleep Dave

Morning Danny You can check your car spec by using a BMW Vin De-coder it will show the original build sheet Standard equipment and options ordered so that may help you establish your start point. Now suspension I am assuming your car has springs front and Air rear ? so Front springs are a swap for your preferred ride height the rear there are adjustable links for the ride height sensors or a bit of fiddling with ISTA/INPA If you have all round air suspension as the rear above ride height sensor links and a bit of programming I have seen an E70 with all round Air ride after market kit that allowed tha full range of ride heights Good Luck Dave

Morning Joe The fact that your not seeing any current draw after 15/30mins (car asleep) would indicate no drain. So suspect the Battery When you look at Realoem for part numbers if you double click the part number it will bring up a list of alternates and the models they were used in that period, on some will have not compatible against them so check carefully. The most accurate way to check the battery's health is check the voltage at the under bonnet charge points with a multi meter when the car is asleep my X5 measures 12.5v anything less than 12v would mean either the battery needs charging or it is on it's way out. BMW M3 Unveiled: Exciting Performance and Innovative Tech
Greydog replied to linlian17's topic in BMW X5 Series Forum
Very interesting But wwhy post in the X5 section ?? -
Hi Robert Welcome to the Forum Could it be a Fibre Optic connector for an accessory not fitted ? Normally they are covered though Check www.realoem.com put the last 7 digits of your Vin into the search box it will call up your model. Then look in the trim section for what was fitted to your car and any alternatives that may have been fitted it should give some clues Dave

Morning Richard Welcome to the Forum Most of the cars to see will be Diesel powered there seem to be very few Petrol models around All Diesel X5's have basically the same 3.0 straight six engine the models and performance vary by the number of turbo's equipment levels are normally good even on the base models. So choose the model with the trim and accessories you want, check the history very carefully use all the tools you can, MOT Check, HPI and of course Service History. I would think your looking at 2015 on cars dependent on mileage and model/type If you find a Petrol model MPG will be 18 around town mid 20's on a run. Diesels are much more frugal with low 20's around town mid 40's on a run. Good luck with the hunt Dave

Well that is at least progress Andrew did BMW tell you what was needed to get it running? These days they don't test batteries as they used to with a drop test across the terminals. So many suspect batteries remain in use with owners struggling. If they find no drain I would check the starter I have seen failing starter motors draw massive amounts of current killing the battery in a couple of turns of the key. Good Luck Dave

Smell of burning and a little smoke from engine bay
Greydog replied to Billy sale's topic in BMW X5 Series Forum
Morning Billy Welcome to the Forum What ever the cause it needs investigation smoke and burning isn't right. Have you spoken to the Garage ? It certainly would appear the gasket isn't seated at the rear of your engine Dave -
The dealers are often ignored but can often be a good source hope it cures your issue Dave

Morning Both Stu 1.4.0 is not compatible with Andrews car which uses a different bus system. As a rough guide 1,4,0 will work on models up to 2005/2006. That was when Ibus stopped and the updated Bus systems K & Dcan Icom came along Andrew if you are buying a Diagnostic suite ISTA/INPA is hard to beat though there are systems now by Foxwell, Icarsoft and a few others. The advantage of ISTA/INPA is it has the workshop information built in Both of my X5's (E53 4.6is and E70 3.0d) show 14.8v alternator output and 12.8 battery engine off car asleep What did BMW suggest ? Or did they just hand the results over? Dave

Sourcing a new fairing screen
Greydog replied to M40marc's topic in The Owners Club General Discussions

Morning Richard Have you checked www.realoem.com you should find connector/plug repair kits there Dave
-
Hi Stan Welcome to the Forum One of our sons friends has a ! series on 3 separate occasions he has had to disconnect the battery for one reason or another each time his Aux connection disappears from the screen. It is easy to reset if you know someone with INPA/ISTA or similar. The cigarette lighter issue have you checked the fuse or that it is connected i have seen one where a previous owner had used the supply for something else. Dave

Morning Chris Welcome to the Forum Check www.realoem.com put the last 7 digits of your Vin into the search box and it will call up your Model. Then search the relevant sections. If you have PDC with the graphics most should be there I think I believe you may need the Video controller and possibly a short loom link in the tailgate plus of course the camera. Good Luck Dave

Morning M6driver Welcome to the Forum A dangerous thing to do but here goes, I assume you have the SMG gearbox in your M6 so the fault you are suffering could be the SMG pump or valve body and not the gearbox. I have seen a scruffy M5 (same box) that just needed a new/replacement pump and fluid/filter change. The young man who brought the car as "Spare or Repair" for very little. spent less than £1000 on a pump and service kit then a weekend getting grubby. Hey Presto with a good clean he had a fully working M5. I dare say BMW will want all your money plus a few body parts to fit a new box, however they only replace not repair. As the car is worth I would guess between £14k and £20k in good condition cost of repair is important. Find a good ZF specialist and get them to analyse the problem and quote for repair. Personally if repair is less than a 1/3d of the Value it is worth the cost as the value of the car without a working gearbox will be very low. It will depend on how much you like your car as to the decision you come to. Good Luck Dave
