Sourcing a new fairing screen
Greydog replied to M40marc's topic in The Owners Club General Discussions
A friend of one of our sons asked if you knew of these guys https://cafe4racer.eu/en/masks-cafe-racer-tracker-scrambler-tracker/811-cafe-racer-fairing-oldskool-abs-unfinished-black Dave -
Morning Richard Have you checked www.realoem.com you should find connector/plug repair kits there Dave

Hi Stan Welcome to the Forum One of our sons friends has a ! series on 3 separate occasions he has had to disconnect the battery for one reason or another each time his Aux connection disappears from the screen. It is easy to reset if you know someone with INPA/ISTA or similar. The cigarette lighter issue have you checked the fuse or that it is connected i have seen one where a previous owner had used the supply for something else. Dave

Morning Chris Welcome to the Forum Check www.realoem.com put the last 7 digits of your Vin into the search box and it will call up your Model. Then search the relevant sections. If you have PDC with the graphics most should be there I think I believe you may need the Video controller and possibly a short loom link in the tailgate plus of course the camera. Good Luck Dave

Morning M6driver Welcome to the Forum A dangerous thing to do but here goes, I assume you have the SMG gearbox in your M6 so the fault you are suffering could be the SMG pump or valve body and not the gearbox. I have seen a scruffy M5 (same box) that just needed a new/replacement pump and fluid/filter change. The young man who brought the car as "Spare or Repair" for very little. spent less than £1000 on a pump and service kit then a weekend getting grubby. Hey Presto with a good clean he had a fully working M5. I dare say BMW will want all your money plus a few body parts to fit a new box, however they only replace not repair. As the car is worth I would guess between £14k and £20k in good condition cost of repair is important. Find a good ZF specialist and get them to analyse the problem and quote for repair. Personally if repair is less than a 1/3d of the Value it is worth the cost as the value of the car without a working gearbox will be very low. It will depend on how much you like your car as to the decision you come to. Good Luck Dave

Nice looking Bike Marc Welcome to the Forum Sadly we are mainly a car Forum but I dare say someone on here may be able to help Have you tried www.realoem.com it's an online BMW parts list put the last 7 digits of your vin into the search box it will bring up your model. If it was offered by BMW it will be there If it's after market ?? A Motor Cycle Specialist Forum perhaps ? Good Luck Dave -
Morning Brian Have you tried re-syncing the key with the car or do you have another key ? There are "How too's" on the internet The battery in the Key fob should charge while in the ignition but they do fail from time to time. Have you tried unlocking the tailgate using the button on the Fob ? As everything works from the key worth checking the diversity antenna which is located in the rear spoiler sometimes they suffer from water ingress and corrosion. Dave

Nice car choice, try BMW the car should still carry some Warranty if not they may offer a Good will Gesture Dave

Morning Brian Welcome to the Forum When you say "the Key Fob works" what is happening ? Is the Central Locking operating but door handle not opening the door? Is this so on all the doors ? Does the Tailgate unlock and open OK ? To be sure you need a scan to identify the cause. Stu on here has a great post on the locking mechanism and Keys Dave

Morning Tim Welcome to the Forum You may be disappointed I am afraid, there are a lot of Msport versions from that era with the 3.0i engine out there for sale the low mileage is your USP. My guess would be between £2 & £6k to reach the top end you would need to find a real enthusiast/collector Good Luck finding the right someone Dave

Morning David check www.realoem.com 225x40x18 were a standard fitment in Bridgestone Michelin Continental and Goodyear. As were 245x35x18 Has someone fitted these tyres to get a higher side wall dimension to soften the ride I wonder ? Dave

Looking Good Mick I had feeling about either front wheel bearing or drive shaft on the X5 4.6is more a feeling or noise at roundabouts I couldn't pin down. Disappeared when I went from winter tyres back to the summer Bridgestone's Check the front tyres first Got a clonk on the front suspension of the E70 so that will keep me busy for a day or so Enjoy the Vert Dave

Morning Mark Welcome to the Forum It could be low fluid level in the box, it could be just simple wear and tear (they should be serviced every 50 to 80k) it could ne a torque converter fault? You need th ecodes read by either a BMW or Gearbox specialist to know Dave

No Simon, the last MOT looks clear no advisories so it appears that episode in the cars life is over. A BMW AUC vehicle is sold only by BMW Dealers. AUC stands for (Approved Used Car) will come with a BMW Warranty Check the Warranty being offered by Lookers on the 535d what does it cover? Last check the tyres on both cars you don't want to be buying a car and in 3 months or less forking out more hard earned for a new set of tyres make sure wear is even particularly the rear tyres. Good Luck Dave

Morning Simon The engine in both cars is the same 3.0 ltr straight 6 diesel the 530d has 250 +hp the 535d 300+hp both cars will return high 20's low 30's mpg around town and mid 40's on the Motorway. As with any car purchase History and Condition are everything (have you checked the MOT history on line repeated advisories can be a sign of an owner who didn't care) Are the cars at a BMW Main Dealer ? Are both cars BMW AUC cars ? Have you checked Road Tax and Insurance cost that may help with the decision also factor in at least 1 major service a year (not always needed but if its just oil you will save some money) My X5 E70 3.0d by comparison is used to pull a horse trailer in the summer and still returns mid 30's on the Motorway and mid 20's around town Hope you enjoy whichever you choose Dave

Morning Andrew You either need INPA or someone who understands INPA to scan the car. If they know what they are doing they can try re-syncing the EWS Shft F6 EWS -- Start value comparison and Shft F7 EWS CAS -- Start value comparison. Let it run. If all is OK they will re-sync and you should be able to start your car. If not Stu should be able to help he went through a lengthy saga with his X5 Check your battery just because it is only 3 years old doesnt mean its OK. Before doing any scan work or programming the battery must be in a fully charged condition. Good Luck with a finding a simple fix Dave
-
A fully charged battery should measure 12.8v I would charge it off the car, measure again after 24hrs if it is below 12.8v but above 12.5v you may be OK If you get measurements below 12.5v you will have a battery issue. Dave
-
Don't forget the fuse boxes in the boot and under the bonnet also those battery figures don't look good considering the engine was running. Even a new battery can die dig out the receipt you may need a new one Dave
