  1. Seasons Best Scott I would talk to BBA Reman or ECU Testing, both companies are well known and have good reputations for repairing/improving parts that BMW (and other Manufacturers say you can't) You can also check the BMW Specialist Recyclers I have used Quarry Motors in the past they are knowledgeable and quick. Good Luck Dave
  2. Morning Adam Seasons Greetings and Welcome to the Forum The X drive cars are very sensitive to a difference in rolling radius of tyres (all AWD cars are) as you only changed the front tyres there could be that you are experiencing Transmission wind up. Reverse slowly on full lock if you feel any snatching or jerking then it is probably a tyre problem. Ideally all 4 tyres should be changed at the same time to try and ensure rolling radius is in tolerance. You should also make sure the same tyre/tread pattern is on each corner. Get apiece of chalk and make a mark at the bottom of a front and rear tyre, roll the car forward one revolution of the front tyre (chalk mark at the bottom) the rear should match if it doesn't there is the problem. If it is a Tyre issue you will cause damage to the transfer case which is more expensive than tyres to fix. Dave
  3. Merry Christmas and a Happy and Peaceful New Year to everyone In the words of the old Bing Crosbie song "I'm Dreaming of a White Christmas" But if it runs out I will drink anything 🤣🤣🤣
  4. Morning Paul My brother inlaw is now on his 5th 5 series Touring (current is a 540d x drive) previous were 535d all ecu tuned from new. The last 535d and the current car are mid range Porsche killers 😈 The BMW bluetooth systems are limited on the number of phones that can be registered so if it;s memory is full it could drive you bonkers. Try this, on your phone turn on Bluetooth, in iDrive go to communication and in the sub menu phone (or could be new phone) and select. your phone and the car should find each other (something like BMW xxxx showing 0n both screens. OK you should be asked for a Pass Code (your Phones) so normally 0000 or 1234 click ok. then it will ask if you want to transfer contacts etc click yes job done. Well I think that's how it goes 🤣 Or you could call up You tube 😂 Hide your Licence and ENJOY, with that power and torque you you only need bluetooth to scream for you MUM Dave
  5. Just chased as I saw his wife apparently he is in Hospital with C19 in New York so won't be back this side of Christmas Have a Good One Dave
  6. Morning Oliver When the car was jump started I hope you used the under bonnet charge points and not direct to the battery ?? You could well be suffering from the efforts of a "Modder" who has done some weird things to find power?? You really need a Full Diagnostic read by some one with a BMW capable system. The symptoms you describe could be due to a failing or damaged LCM control unit, not unusual if the car was jump started direct at the battery. Dave
  7. Morning Oliver Battery Disconnect for around 30mins is a Dealer trick to reset all faults while it was disconnected did the check the battery and charge it? Low voltage can cause some weird things in BMW's Try fully charging the Battery (use the under bonnet charge points) and see what happens Dave
  8. Have you tried BMW ? I thought the Owners Manual was part of the CIC/CCC these days could be wrong though Seasons Best Dave
  9. Morning Kathy All codes are EGR related (I think your EGR is electric) pointing to a clogged or failed EGR. It will need taking off and inspecting and either cleaning or replacing. If your friend has a code reader they should have some spanners the job isn't difficult just take your/their time. Search youtube for some video help also look at www.realoem.com put the last 7 digits of your Vin Number into the search box it will bring up your model the search the sections for the part you need. Each section has small exploded drawings and part numbers so that if you need a replacement (new or used) you get the right part. Good Luck try and enjoy the break Dave
  10. Morning Paul Welcome to the Forum The 535d is an awsome bit of kit I am sure it will give you plenty of SMILES per Gallon Dave
  11. Great fun the Hunt the Battery game 😂 It is under the floor on the right hand side at the rear there are several panels and trays to come out before you get to the battery I have done this on a 4 series and believe the 3 series is the same. You will need a trim removal tool and a 10mm socket and patience. If he is trying to check the battery it can be done from the charging points under the bonnet, if he is just trying to charge it that is where to do it as the name suggests. Seasons Greetings Dave
  12. As said in your welcome post make sure the engine, turbo, etc etc are all good before spending out your hard earned Check carefully regarding DPF removal as I believe it will be an MOT fail. My brother inlaw is now on his 5th 5 series touring all have been ECU tuned from new he has never had any DPF issues and the last 4 have gone well above 200k all have complete BMW histories with interim oil and filter changes here. We did swirl flap on the early 3 but the later cars are much better. The last two needed EGR changes at around 150k Dave
  13. Morning Jay Welcome to the Forum There is a Register of BMW Specialists google is your friend here then find a couple near you and talk to them. You say high mileage 200k + ? Just remember that if the engine is worn there is little that can be done other than rebuild or replacement. Good luck hope it's something quick and easy Dave
  14. Morning Martin First trade in, when a dealer is taking a car in part exchange they have to consider two things !. Will it be re-sold on their forecourt or 2. Will it go for Auction So clearly they will offer the lowest price they can in order to protect their Profit. When selling on their Forecourt they will price a car to maximise their profit even if they have to discount.Always remember who is paying for the "Free Coffee" 🤣 The X3 will have better ground clearance and more space for your drums but it is a heavier and more complicated car due to the AWD system which accounts for some of the additional cost. Hope you enjoy the new car Dave
  15. Morning Jake A diagnostic scan with a BMW capable scanner would tell a lot more ? However you can carry out some checks under the bonnet open engine off key out and car asleep (light by the gearstick out) check the voltage at the charge points under the bonnet. Anything below 12.5v would indicate a discharged or failing battery. Engine running check the voltage again should be around 14 + v Your problem could be a clogged fuel filter, low fuel pressure or as simple as the fuel pump relay sticking so good diagnostics are needed. Dave PS. Welcome to the Forum
  16. Morning Scott Welcome to the Forum You should find the sensors including the O2 sensor on top of the Catalyser/DPF unit Take a look at www.realoem.com put the last 7 digits of your Vin into the search box it will call up your model, then search the exhaust section you should see an exploded drawing of the system showing where stuff fits and what the correct parts numbers are. Dave
  17. A Diagnostic scan is needed otherwise you are going to throw money at it unnecessarily. A diagnostic scan with the right equipment will show even faults not present but held in the memory Dave
  18. Morning Terry Sadly BMW used to allow access to their TIS (technical information system) but a couple of years ago made it subscription only. There are 2 sources in the USA Bentley Manuals but being USA tend to be petrol based, and Pelican Parts these guys have some great online "how to Articles" complete with pictures again mainly petrol based. If you get a copy INPA/ISTA it has the technical information included with it just I am not sure if you can update it anymore but for older models obviously that isn't an issue. Plus of course www.realoem.com Dave
  19. OK thinking of the simple things first I guess you have tried reprograming the keys ? I don't know if Carly is capable of programming/reprograming the CAS/EWS if it cant be repaired by someone like BBA Reman or ECU Testing If your unit is failing any replacement will need programming to your DME and registered to your chassis plus the keys reregistered. I know it can be done with ISTA/INPA so if you don't have access to it may time to get some quotes from a BMW Specialist or someone who has. Dave
  20. Morning Stuart Welcome to the Forum First have you tried another key? Just to rule that out the next step would be a Diagnostic Scan if you don't have the equipment find a garage with a BMW capable scan tool. Dave
  21. Morning Dan Welcome to the Forum Definitely not right and I would say needs urgent investigation, it could be a loose or failed track rod end, a failing/failed steering column joint (2 of them) or a rack issue. How new is the MOT? that play much would be a fail I think a strong advisory at best. Check the MOT advisory list Dave
  22. Morning Owen Welcome to the Forum Not a common problem but I have seen it twice once on a 5 series and once on my X5 in 16 years. Both cases it was a failed door actuator getting the door open is a Faff as you have to take off the door card to "A" get the door open and then "B" get to the actuator. I undid the passenger seat and tipped it back to give better access and remove the door card. Then with a long screw driver manipulate the door lock mechanism and get it open. I replaced both actuators with second user parts at a reasonable cost. Tip : remember to plug the window switch back in or the Central locking wont work plus test with the door open. I had scanned both cars first and both showed an Actuator fault Dave
  23. Morning Phill Welcome to the Forum So you have a heavy right foot !! Better hide your licence 🤣 In the mid 1970's I had a Citroen DS23 Pallas as a company car, it was a 4 speed manual (now the fun bit) on the right accelerator, in the middle a rubber button bit bigger than half a tennis ball, on the left another peddle. So 4 speed manual without a clutch put it in gear and accelerate, lift off change gear all straight forward until you put your foot on the left peddle that your brain says is a clutch peddle !!! Wrong it's the parking brake, scared the pants of me and a few followers with that. Then there was the rubber button, just think about putting your foot on it and you stopped actually putting your foot on it = Emergency style stop. The point is within an hour of driving it I had adjusted. The brakes will bed in and you will adjust to them ENJOY your BEEMER Dave
  24. Hi as I understand it if your car has the S6F1A in the build sheet you have the DAB, tuner and B&W Amp and speakers I have a neighbour who does work for BMW he is in the States currently I have asked him how you can get the information I will update when he gets back to me Dave
  25. Morning Shivaji You could try BMW Vin Decoder which should give the build sheet for your car, I just had a quick look at realoem and if you have S6F1A on the build sheet you do have the B&W High end system However it looks as though someone could order an HK system with B&W speakers most confusing unfortunately it still doesn't give any system information? Can BMW Customer services not provide something? Dave
