  1. Morning John Welcome to the Forum My first thoughts are leak in the air spring or a blown fuse check them all. When you say you changed the high lift sensor I assume (dangerous) that was the rear ride height sensor ? If there is an air leak the compressor will run a lot and can be damaged, replacement is not a bad job and compressors are not bank busters (check the internet). I have seen several where faults were caused by faulty wiring at the Ride height sensor plug check carefully. It could be a Suspension Control unit (rare but not impossible) easy change plug and play Hope this helps Dave
  2. Morning Callum Welcome to the Forum A diagnostic Scan is needed to help identify the cause it could be the cluster its self or a JBE (Junction Box Electronics) fault. I would start with the simple things check all plugs and connectors Dave
  3. Morning Firat First the belt being tight isn't the issue the issue could be with the Tensioner and pulleys? Also as the issue has returned note any and all fault codes and descriptions using ISTA then post them here. ISTA has wiring diagrams check carefully all Canbus wiring and connections Those would be my starting points Dave
  4. Hi Gerry I find it hard to believe they couldn't find a fault?? I had an injector problem with my E70 ran diagnostics "no Fault" ran live diagnostics when driving under load the fault popped up and was recorded. My bet would be the Dealer just plugged into their machine and probably didn't even run the engine. For what its worth I have read about two instances both in the US very similar issue to your 1 apparently it was the injector module causing it software upgrade fixed it the other was a failing fuel pump Both cars were suffering poor cold start and tick over problems Hope this helps Dave
  5. Morning Gary I would agree that there is more labour in just changing bushes, but as I have my own bearing press in the garage that's less of a problem for me. Having said that I used a Meyle HD suspension kit (Front and Rear) on my E53 X5 4.6is (tip fit new mounting bolts as well your Garage probably will) everything fitted well. I marked the Eccentric bolts positions and put the new ones in the same position when it went for alignment very little was needed 😁 My E70 I have re-bushed the front suspension (again Meyle) Dampers are Bilstien, Springs are Original. I also fitted new Top Mounts Enjoy your Beemer Dave
  6. Hi Paul Ooo Eerr I will have to check that 😅 I know I do with the wife's Subaru Outback Just checked the X5 Yes Dave
  7. Morning Nick Then I am at a loss here, my assumption was the DME has retained the settings for your old Injectors which is causing the misfires. So if there are no leaks and the Injectors are correct (my contact in BMW has seen instances where Euro 5 or Euro 6 Injectors were fitted) but without diagnostics ??? Just been next door (7.00am) and asked my neighbour if I could run my copy of ISTA on his E46 M54 engine and can find the DME and Injectors no problem ran a smooth running check (Happy to say he has no issues) also ran INPA and could get the same results took 20mins but needed to confirm what ISTA was saying. So really confused now? I am still convinced that ISTA should be able to sort it if only by pointing to the retained faults Dave As an after thought have you tried the Pelican Parts website ? they have a lot of great articles with pictures that may help
  8. Hi Nick From ISTA Steps to Check InjectorsConnect ISTA: Use a compatible diagnostic interface to connect ISTA to the vehicle's OBD-II port. Select Vehicle: Enter the vehicle identification number (VIN) or select the model manually to ensure accurate diagnostics. Access Fuel Injector Data: Navigate to the engine control module (ECM) section. Look for the fuel injector diagnostics option. Run Tests: Perform a functional test to check the operation of each injector. Monitor injector pulse width and fuel trim values to assess performance. Review Fault Codes: Check for any stored fault codes related to the fuel injectors. This can indicate issues such as misfires or electrical problems. Additional ConsiderationsInjector Replacement: If issues are detected, consider replacing injectors in sets for balanced performance. Safety Precautions: Always relieve fuel system pressure before working on injectors to prevent spills. Using ISTA effectively can help diagnose and maintain the performance of the M54 engine's fuel injectors. Does this help Dave
  9. Morning Nick Sorry don't recognise that number looks more like a Batch number to me particularly as you have the same number on all injectors, there is normally a flowrate number which I would expect to start with a 5 ? The only other thought is that the Injectors that you have are not correct ? Are they possibly EU5 or EU6. If they are correct then it is back tracking through the work done to ensure there are no leaks, damaged seals or wiring. What information is ISTA asking for it normally is quite specific Dave
  10. Morning Gary The air suspension can be re-calibrated using BMW INPA/ISTA so not a big deal if it is running low. Unless your compressor is worn and not able to lift the car properly of course Dave
  11. Greydog replied to ChrisBr's topic in BMW 1 Series Forum
Morning Chris Difficult to identify what that is but it appears to be on the inner wing/wheel arch so hard to see how that would get anywhere hot (Engine/exhaust) I would clean that thoroughly and see if it comes back or where it comes from can be identified. It seems to be coming from the area where the battery is mounted From your description of smelling it after stopping or idling with a hot engine I would check for any evidence of leaks around the oil cooler, thermostat housing/water pump and Turbo cooling systems Hope this helps not hinders Dave
  12. Morning Wayne Welcome to the Forum Take a look at www.realoem.com put the last 7 digits of your Vin into the search box and it will call up your model then look in the trim section. The exploded drawings Not a job I have done but at a guess it is easier with the bumper off, however it may be possible with the under trays removed to do it from below my neighbour managed his 3 series that way it was a faff though still he is younger and bendier than me 🤣 Hope this helps Dave
  13. Hi Gary Doesn't your X5 have self levelling rear suspension ? I have not seen an E70 that's on springs? My own X5's both have Factory Tow bars and both are on self levelling air suspension. Non runflats give a better choice of tyre and yes you will feel the difference in ride If your on air suspension make sure it hasn't been played with you should measure bottom of wheel rim to wheel arch through the centre cap measurement on the E70 should be 720mm I have seen two that were altered to 690mm and both had a terrible jolty ride on poor surfaces. If your on steel springs your car may have been converted by a previous owner Dave
  14. Morning Sway-Z Welcome to the Forum All of BMW approved tyre suppliers produce both run flat and non run flat tyres in the correct sizes, so Bridgestone, Michelin, Pirelli, then there are the middle market Yokohama, Hankook etc I think you need to check the size as my E70 X5 runs Front 275x40xR20 and Rear 315x35xR20 also a word of warning don't change just front or rear as the difference in rolling radius can cause transmission wind up and damage to Diffs and Transfer box (New tyres are cheaper than a Transfer box or Diff) An internet search should identify a supplier near you, my X5 E53 is currently on Yokohama brought from Kwik Fit on a deal 3 years ago and my X5 E70 is on Hankook brought from Black Circles last year just under £800 fitted (another deal) Dave
  15. Hi Nick What engine does your car have ? you say M54 but around the middle of 2006 BMW introduced the N52 engine Have you checked? N52 engines will need injectors registering if it's late M54 it may or may not Are the injectors new? Are the injectors the correct volume (should be 525cc If my old brain is working) ? The adaptions stored in the ECU may not match what you have replaced the originals with, they may need resetting a check with ISTA wont hurt As you are getting misfiring on all 6 something is not right, is the injector rail and injectors seated correctly are all the injector seals OK I have seen plenty damaged on reassembly Dave
  16. Hi Nick How practised are you with ISTA + ? First you need the values from the Injector bodies (if you haven't written them down already) If you don't have them it looks like you will be taking them out again !! Rather than a long post on ISTA try this link it will help https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ErTLV0NqIOM Dave
  17. How many sections are you going to post in Mark ? So far 3 series, 5 series, 7 series ? Dave
  18. Morning Denzell Welcome to the Forum Yes the permanent faults could well give no start condition. I would start with a continuity check of the engine bay loom and connectors, if they check out OK then test the sensors with permanent faults (you should find test parameters online) That should give you a clear picture of where the issue is, the short circuit faults need investigation and repair (loom/connectors) I would also check the ECU (DME) connector pins for any signs of degrading/moisture/corrosion check fuel rail pressure and sensor also Good Hunting Dave
  19. Morning Nick When you replaced the Injectors were they (a) Correct for your car and (b) correctly registered to the car ? What Diagnostic program are you using ? Dave
  20. Hi Mark It could be Vanos ? could be Injector clatter? could be Front pulley or tensioner ? could be Timing chain or tensioner ? To many "could be's " to be certain I am afraid Dave
  21. Morning Alan Welcome to the Forum How many miles? When was the last Service? Has the Transmission ever been serviced? Has a Diagnostic Scan been carried out? Dave
  22. Morning Mark Welcome to the Forum Errr how are any of us supposed to give an opinion based on that, Bonnet Closed !! You need at least Bonnet up and move over the engine to try and guess where it comes from. Sorry Dave
  23. If he has the correct part numbers he should be able to source parts OK. Second user or New shipping will be the only additional cost hope he's successful Dave
  24. Morning Martin Seems your posting in two sections ?? Dave
  25. Morning Martin Sorry this is new territory for me as well, try an Internet search of the codes or symptom to see if it has been logged on other sites. Good Luck Dave
