E39 530i Crank No Start After Front End Collision
Greydog replied to TinoTheGreek's topic in BMW 5 Series Forum
Hi Tino Seems like you have done a thorough job The Relay you have highlighted is the Fuel Pump Relay as far as I am aware I will have a dig into the wiring diagrams for the starter to see if I can help with the Black wire Dave -
Hi John Welcome to the Forum Who changed the DMF and Clutch and did they change the throw out bearing ?? If your foot is on the clutch does it make a difference? Have all the heat shields been checked for tightness ? Dave
-
Hi John If the leak is just a weep it could well be missed at service as they are more interested in getting the job done, and yes it could well have been topped up what was on the invoice/receipt It was more your description "a sweet smell" that got me thinking coolant Dave
-
Hi Steve Welcome to the Forum What instructions did the camera come with? You need to Identify what the Red and Yellow wires signify (a wild guess Red permanent live Yellow ACC (Switched) live) If the camera is not connected to the car is it running on it's own battery in which case it could be power saving Dave

Hi John That is the back of the diesel particulate filter you have high lighted Your turbo chargers have a cooling system if there is a leak in the cooling system and coolant gets on to a hot turbo or exhaust you will get smoke and a sweet smell. When driving it will tend to blow away under the car It is a fiddle but checking all the hoses in that area is the only way, have you had to top up coolant at all ?? Dave

Mini Countryman Diesel 2011 not starting

Morning Justin Welcome to the Forum Changing the battery in the key fob shouldn't need any surgery (before or after the change 😅 Remove the emergency key from the fob, turn the fob over and use the end of the key to prize open the back of the fob. With the fob open use the end of the key to prize open the battery cover release the battery and replace it. Then put it back together 🤣 I have a neighbour who insisted I show her how and she managed it without breaking any finger nails Several videos on the internet now Good luck Dave -
Morning Steve The small turbo is working hard from low revs the bigger one comes on song mid range so while it is spinning it isnt under load. My logic says if your in there get both checked and refurbed, you will curse if you do one and in a couple of months !!! Also make sure the intercooler is clean inside (no oil) Dave

Morning Andrew Check www.realoem for hoses and routes would be my starting point As the steering feels heavier I would start there check for leaks if the system is conventional hydraulic, there is a breather hose that should draw vapour of into the inlet. If it has the sealed electric rack not sure if you can top those up, also it would not be a source of smoke. Oil can be coming from a worn seals in the turbo or from the pollution control side Good luck with the investigation Dave

Morning Vicky Welcome to the Forum Not heard of this before Vicky is the clicking occurring when stationary or when moving ? If it is happening when moving I would look for evidence of something touching the wheel or other rotating parts. If it is at full lock when stationary then it could be caused by the steering rack reaching it's stop points ? There are a number of things to check (1) were the tie rods correct part numbers for your car (check the delivery note/receipt the outer ball joints as well. Next the inner tie rods are handed (different part numbers left and right) were they fitted correctly? i have never had an issue with Euro Car parts or Lemforder so if there is an issue I would think they would exchange parts with no issues I would make sure the part numbers are correct and fitted in the correct positions before starting a complaint and claim. If the parts are incorrect or indeed faulty then a claim for the cost of rectifying, parts and labour should be with Euro car Parts. However if they are correct parts fitted incorrectly Good Luck Dave

Morning Joseph All part of BMW strategy to enhance your sense of achievement 🤣 when (a) you find it and (b) actually access it 🤣🤣 With your fuse map there are several for different models and years so make sure you have the one for your model (more BMW fun) For simplicity I took a feed from the Vanity light power through a fuse to the camera on my E70 and did the same on my brother inlaws 5 series with my E53 I used the torch charging point in the glove box as a power source again fused (all cameras are Next Base. Dave

Hi Andrew Blue smoke is an indication that oils is getting into either the Exhaust or Inlet I would check carefully that the oil level is correct (has it been over filled) Next all of the hoses and vacuum lines around the Turbo and and Intercooler, then the inlet side particular attention to the EGR valve and EGR cooler Last it could be Valve stem oils seals As far as I am aware there is an oil cooler arrangement and filter, I guess you have checked www.realoem.com The symbol you describe could be the steering angle sensor is the steering heavy ? BMW X1 Fuel sensor failure.
Greydog replied to Stephen1's topic in The Owners Club General Discussions
Thanks Andy Great information BMW Dealers follow BMW guide lines sadly which has led to there "Technicians" not actually repairing anything, all they do is change units at their customers expense. Then wonder why they don't see many cars outside Warranty?? They will often advise changing complete units even if the cost exceeds the value of the car Dave -
Nice to have you onboard John Welcome to the Forum Dave
-
Morning Juliya Welcome to the Forum You list errors has the car been scanned ? Has any work been carried out recently ? Are all fuses OK ? I would say start with a full diagnostic scan using a good BMW capable diagnostic program Dave

Morning Abi As I understand the ULEZ regulations vehicles need to meet Euro Emission levels Motorcycles that are Euro 3 or higher comply Petrol Vehicles that are Euro 4 or higher Diesel Vehicles that are Euro 6 Confusing the issue are reports that vehicles need to be manufactured/registered in certain years BMW were using Euro 6 compliant engines as far back as 2012 in the 1 series and 3 series cars Are you thinking of buying one or do you need confirmation that yours complies Dave
-
Morning So your mechanic was almost right 😅 Tyre sizes are critical when the car is 4x4 as then incorrect sizes will put strain on the transfer case (expensive) but as yours is rear drive as long as the tyres are in reasonable condition and all four wearing evenly then change to the correct sizes when wear dictates. Unless you are fussy about these things of course Enjoy Dave

Going to test drive tomorrow, anything to look out for?
Greydog replied to Mr_M_Cox's topic in BMW 4 Series Forum
👍 Very Nice ENJOY Dave -
Hi Malcolm Welcome to the Forum I believe if your tyres are on 17" rims they should be 205x50x17 Front and Rear some were fitted with 225x45x17 all round depending on Tyre supplier. If they are 18" rims they will 7 1/2J Front Front and 8 1/2J Rear so Tyre size would be 215x40x18 Front 245x35x18 Rear Hope this helps Dave

Morning Colin ZF who make the box recommend Servicing the box between 80k to 100k kilometres depending on use. So if it hasn't been done yours is well overdue as for price I would think that the service kit and fluid would be between £150 and £300 (the higher being ZF) then add a couple of hours labour £500 isn't so bad Just serviced my own X5 3.0d using Genuine ZF service parts cost for the kit was £320 I also changed the Fluid in the Transfer case and Front and Rear Diffs 4 litres at £25 per litre Dave

Morning Colin Depending on which engine your X1 has it may well be turbo charged that should do it Dave

Morning Ian Could it be anything to do with a warning system ? Lane departure or some other warning I have no clue as my X5 doesn't have that fancy stuff being older (2009) Dave

Morning Ciaran Gig you not check on www.realoem.com ?? A quick look at realoem tells me 3 door and 5 door are different part numbers didn't check LCI I think the part number for your car may be 51778056815 but you need to check or speak to a body shop or you could be throwing your money away Dave
