Probably best to avoid Bio-Fuel at the moment as it has a history of causing issues with engine damage due to excessively high Ethanol content (5% in the UK but 10% in Europe) They have used it in motorsport for some time now but those engines are designed for it whereas currently I would say the engines weren't designed for running Bio primarily.

Measuring the oxygen can diagnose whether you have a vacuum leak on the inlet / air leak on the exhaust which could be the reason for the O2 sensor going out of range and the fuel trim dropping off due to the O2 sensor reading.

would be worth measuring the exhaust emissions for oxygen content around the cruise speed range to see if there is excess O2 in the readings

It's worth starting at the rear where the fault lies and work back from there. Also, check for anywhere that water could have entered the electrics, etc and specifically at electrical connections being corroded

Hi Jon Sorry to hear you've had issues only after 11 months of ownership. It seems like a common fault with a lot of different makes and models nowadays, mainly due to how cars are driven with modern day traffic congestion where first and second gear are the most common gears in use and also the power surges transmitted through the transmission at low gears (harsh acceleration in 1st gear, power on and off). I'm sure that's not how you drive it but unfortunately, it seems like the majority of younger drivers are that way and you may have inherited any previous abuse that may not be noticeable until some time later. It seems the attitude of Driving Instructors is that it is 'gears to go and brakes to slow'...an absolutely ridiculous statement and one that leads to harsh acceleration and braking. This also leads to undue strain being applied to the clutch, gearbox and dual mass flywheels. To summarise my ramblings, it may be a case of biting the bullet and getting another gearbox (reconditioned with modified parts) to rectify the fault. If BMW were to maybe supply you a clutch kit as a gesture of good will then that may take the sting out it slightly? Keep us updated on how you get on with it all Cheers Trevor

Sounds like an ideal Z3 to own with low mileage and garaged in the winter....fast appreciating classic now. You could try a battery reset to see if that cures it

Usually the sign that the car has been looked after by the previous owner(s). More specific faults, worth looking through the forum posts to get an idea of what goes wrong but really its like any car, you get good ones and bad ones. Good luck with your search cheers Trevor

Hi...welcome to the Forum You could try a battery reboot/reset procedure to see if that solves the issue. It could also be a faulty door switch if it's not recognising the door closed it may not drop the window or go into auto-down Let us know what you find Cheers Trevor
