  1. Morning Eric Welcome to the Forum Check your handbook for settings Dave
  2. Morning All the plastic covers and sensors tend to scare folks off. With a reasonable tool kit you can do probably 50% + of the jobs that may arise. If you are really into your car and DIY then with a few more specialist tools added to your kit you can do pretty much everything a dealer can do (sometimes more) There are lots of "how to's" online (some good some not so good) plus you can get help and advice here Dave
  3. Morning Luis There is an internal harness in the transmission plus the external harness. Which one is toast ? If it is the external harness between box and EGS then either an Auto Electrician to cut out damaged sections and replace/repair them then use www.realoem (classic section) put the last 7 digits of your Vin into the search box it will bring up your model. Sorry can't help with a mechanic but here in the UK we have a Register of BMW Specialists maybe you have similar there? Or maybe talk with Pelican Parts they may have more local knowledge Dave
  4. If you are going for headers and downpipe remember a missing Cat or DPF is an automatic fail at MOT. Dave
  5. Nice work Aleexandra Dave
  6. Morning Ryan Welcome to the Forum I think it was Carol Shelby who famously said "Speed costs Money how fast can you afford to go" Bearing that in mind my personal approach is think about suspension and brakes as part of the whole package. Take a look at look at www.realoem.com put the last 7 digits of your Vin into the search box then look at the relevant sections I would check the mountings for M sport bumpers and trim against the M sport models as I think there may be some variations. Getting an after market kit to fit well and look the part could be as expensive as all the other mods (but I am sure you know that) One of our sons friends has a 1 series he had a Stainless exhaust fitted with twin outlets by a place in Romford I think cost him around £600 from memory. Good luck and let us know how it is going, most important ENJOY your Beemer Dave
  7. Morning Mark First when the issue was first diagnosed was it by a BMW diagnostic or a Generic OBD reader which gave you a code that said Fuel Pressure sensor ? I suspect the later If there is no or low pressure in the fuel rail a Generic reader will not receive signal from the sensor so assumes it is at fault. However if the fuel pump is failing or the fuel filter is blocked there will be no or low pressure at the fuel rail. I would start at the pump and work forward pump and work forward, there was a known issue with fuel pumps a few years back which allowed metal particles into the fuel lines fouling filters and in extreme cases injectors. If you can't DIY then find a BMW Specialist near you to first work out what the issue is, then fix it properly Dave
  8. Morning Jonathan Welcome to the Forum Swirl flaps are often removed (due to early failures that caused engine damage) the later system is more robust. If you aren't aware use www.realoem.com to get the correct part numbers just put the last 7 digits of your Vin in the search box. Would it not be cheaper to get the manifold chemically cleaned? I have heard lots of people changing the exhaust manifold for a cast iron one (daft the cast one seems to be cheaper) due to the fabricated one cracking first time I have read someone changing the inlet Dave
  9. Morning Mike BMW aren't the only Manufacturer to see Run Flats as an opportunity to leave out the spare and jack and charge us more for the privilege 🤣 Check realoem as I believe the jack and spare were available on some models. My X5 came with a Space Saver but due to it having a staggered set up I added a smal compressor/inflator and a repair plug kit. Happy to tempt fate and report never needed the spare and since adding the compressor I have used it twice on a neighbours car and one of our sons A copy of PASoft BMW 1.4.0 on a laptop will save you the 21/2 hour trip to the Dealer as it will give Dealer level diagnostic capability plus more and cost is really low ENJOY Dave
  10. Morning V Welcome to the Forum As above talk to ECU Testing or BBA Reman just Google them they both have been around for yonks and have good reputations Dave
  11. Morning Can't give much help on Aussie prices but maybe help with a course of action First 220k (around 140k miles) for a well maintained modern engine should not be an issue. Now parts and service www.realoem.com is an online BMW parts list put the last 7 digits of your car in the search box it will bring up your model then search the sections for what you need. This ensures you get the correct part for your car when ordering. Any competent Home Mechanic could take care of the other items but if that isn't your plan then a good Garage should be OK Bonnet Struts Get the part number and just do a Google search for prices and suppliers Spark Plug A seized spark plugs needs care and patience to remove hopefully it wasn't cross threaded when it was put in? regular doses of penetrating fluid when the engine is cold and then remove. If it has damaged the threads in the head then cost will increase as the head will need a helicoil insert to repair it. Rear Lower Arm Bushes All suspension bushes can be changed at a reasonable cost Front and Rear Brakes Standard service items (realoem again) Exhaust Leaks Could be a gasket or may need a weld Auto Box Fluid Any competent garage could do it but a ZF specialist would be my choice I would get costs for parts then talk to some local garages if you are not able to tackle it yourself Hope this helps Dave
  12. Morning Mike Welcome to the Forum If you are a Beemer owner your welcome here There are a couple of sites that will help going forward with up-dates and other improvements. www.realoem.com this is an online BMW parts list just put the last 7 digits of your Vin into the Search box it will bring up your model. Then search the sections for what you want, when you find your part the part number will ensure get the right part. If you double click the part number it will bring up the part and a list of alternatives www.pelicanparts.com have some terrific how to's with pictures plus a great deal of knowledge. If your into DIY I would invest in a BMW specific diagnostic program such as BMW 1.4.0 or INPA/ISTA it will help a great deal with sorting issues or coding in upgrades. Good Luck and ENJOY your new car Dave
  13. A Diagnostic Scan would help as it could be any number of things. When was its last service? When was the fuel filter changed last? Can you get the pressure checked at the fuel rail? Check the plugs and coil packs. Sorry to raise more questions than answers but a scan would tell you more Dave
  14. Did you check realoem for location and part numbers? You coul also try www.pelicanparts.com a USA site but some really useful "how to's" with pictures. A diagnostic scan may help as it could be the control unit Dave
  15. My 4.6is has now covered 161k I brought it originally to pull a horse trailer after selling our Horse Lorry. Most Journeys are local with a few motorway jaunts thrown in, During winter time some mild off road work as Shooting is a hobby an summer towing the horses to shows etc. My average MPG over the last 10k is 18.8 mpg so don't ignore the bigger V8's particularly if it has an LPG conversion Hope you find what you want and enjoy it Dave
  16. Morning Scott There is a Register of BMW Specialists so Google is your friend you should find one near you. Generally these are BMW trained guys who have struck out on their own cost wise they are around half the dealer costs. A good Independent Garage with Autologic or similar could also be useful. If you use realoem.com find the parts you need if you double click the part number you will get a list of alternate Models and part numbers that will fit. Then back to google for the best supply price don't ignore recycled parts there is also a list of BMW Specialist Recyclers who are knowledgeable and helpful. If your able to DIY then take a look at sites like www.pelicanparts.com they have some great "how to's" with pictures, it is a USA site so steering wheel will be on the wrong side but everything else is where it should be. So I would search to see if there are any service kits available BMW like many other manufacturers don't fix things they just change parts and there are many companies out there who repair/upgrade all sorts of units. Try people like BBA Reman or Cartronics Good luck hope its and easy fix Dave
  17. Morning Ben Welcome to the Forum Nice car if my ol brain is working its an E93 you own is it Pre LCI or LCI ? Your car should have around 210bhp as standard 0to 60 around 6.5 to 7 seconds, so the place to start is a full health check and service. Check compression check fuel rail pressure. If both are in speck then a full service all filters plugs coil packs etc. Then off to a rolling road then you will have a base line and know if any horses have escaped, an engine ECU tune on a normally aspirated engine will give around 10%+ HP so that could bring it up to 230+ bhp. Beyond that it is the traditional route of Inlet and Exhaust upgrades or if your after more Cams head mods etc. Remember more power = more speed so don't ignore Brakes Suspension and Tyres. Dave
  18. Hi Scott You need a diagnostic by a Garage or someone who has a BMW capable Diagnostic, there is a Register of BMW Specialists so you should find one near you. Does your car have rear self leveling suspension or full all round air suspension. ? The system is not overly complicated so with the right diagnostic software it should be fairly simple. Take a look at www.realoem.com put the last 7 digits of your Vin into the search box and it will call up your model, then search the rear axle section. It should list all the parts and show a small drawing that will help with locating parts, the part numbers will ensure if you need a part that you get the right one. It could be a level sensor or a sticking valve in the control unit Good Luck with the solution Dave P.S. It goes without saying driving on a deflated airbag can cause damage
  19. Afternoon Gary All secondhand cars are at a premium just now due to the microchip shortage delaying delivery of new cars. The BMW 3.0i is a straight 6 not a V6 you could look for a 3.0i or 4.4i that has an LPG conversion that would help on 2 fronts first LPG is roughly half the cost of petrol and second it helps with emissions Diesel from being heavily promoted by many Governments around Europe seems to have become as Jeremy Clarkson once said "The fuel of the Devil" Good Luck Dave
  20. Hi Scott Welcome to the Forum Dave
  21. Morning Gary Welcome to the Forum If your contemplating long journeys my personal choice would be the 3.0d which will give high 20's low 30's MPG around town high 30's low 40's on a run and the facelift E53 with the 6 speed box is very relaxed. The 3.0i is a straight six and one of worlds great engines (the 3.0d is based on it's proven design) however due to the size and weight of the X5 there is very little difference in MPG between the 3.0i and the 4.4/4.6/4.8 V8 variants, high teens around town mid 20's on a run. Make sure suspension bushes are serviced around every 80k and tyres are in good order (worn/tired bushes will chew tyres up) Good luck with the search Dave
  22. Morning Clive Welcome to the Forum Have you been in touch with BMW UK ? Dealers can vary massively in their approach and attitude with an issue like this. I would take some advice on where you stand with the Sale of Goods Act and Consumer Rights amendments. As you have clear Internet evidence that this is a well know issue plus your own video of you draining water from your car, I would write to BMW UK (attaching all links to video) with a copy sent to the MD of your dealership (if you haven't already) I would ask for a time line for BMW/Ocean to resolve the issue to your satisfaction as it is a well documented problem supported by a service bulletin. Good Luck and keep us posted Dave
  23. Like Stu says try moving stuff difficult to say untill you get inside and pull/push and shake stuff could be window glass moving or a simple loose bolt Good Luck Dave
  24. Morning Darren My brother inlaw has used a company in Middlesex on all his BMW 5 touringI used (on his 5th now) he lives in Laughton but says they are the best. BW Autos Repairs. On my Volvo t5's and T6' I used a company called Remap Science who again were excellent. Dave
  25. Morning Mark ZF who make the gearbox in your car recommend service at 60 to 100k kilometres, how many miles has it done ? I would find a local ZF specialist and get an oil/filter change done Dave
