  1. The triangle also comes up when your low on fuel.
  2. I think you would be better off with an SE. I have the M Sport in the 3 Series and it can be too harsh at times. Pot holes are a nightmare and uneven road surfaces can be a bind. Also its quite a bit lower than the SE so getting in and out will be more difficult for an elderly person.
  3. They should never need replacing. Provided its had regular oil changes it should be fine. Far better than any belt driven engine.
  4. Could be a number of things but if they couldn't find the issue by looking over it is possibly the top mount on the rear shock.
  5. They are all Cam chains as far as I know. The problems experienced in the 3 Series were with the E90 series N47 Engines. As with any car just look for the usual things. Check there are no knocking noises coming from suspension and steering. Check for leakes etc. Pretty solid car otherwise.

  7. The part will fix the 2af4, 2af2 and 2af6 issues. I didn't have the 30ae code. That looks like a new CAT. I don't know if a good quality fuel system cleaner and an Italian tune up may clear that.

  11. Its still worth getting the codes read. I had a similar issue. Light came on but no issue with the car. My code reader pointed to the Nitrogen Oxide Sensor. Emission's were fine so it was obviously only the sensor. I cleared the codes and it would do anything between 30 and 300 miles before coming on again after I kept clearing them. As BMW wanted £450 to fit a new one I bought one second hand off a car that had only done 5000 miles for £145. Got local garage to fit it as I couldn't get enough clearance under the car to fit it myself and have not had the issue since.
  12. If there was no pressure in the system it wouldn't start up at all. Best get it checked by an Air con specialist. Don't go to BMW. They will charge you a fortune.

  14. If that doesn't work you probably have a lazy thermostat. A new one should do the trick
  15. I don't know about the E46. My E92 does 3100 revs at 90mph. I doubt it will be much different on an E46 although mine is a 6 speed Steptronic Gearbox.

  18. First off welcome along. The cruise control relies on a number of sensors and if any of these aren't working properly the system wont work. A good code reader should identify the issue. Have you got a friendly garage near you that will scan the system for free? I have experienced a similar boot lock issue with a Focus in the past although it may not be caused by the same problem. On the Focus the boot lock was affected by water ingress. I took it out and stripped it. Cleaned it all up including the connections to the motor and got it working again. I sprayed the electrics with electrical sealant and didn't have an issue again. Good luck with it.
  19. Very nice Simon. What sort of paint is that? It looks matt in the photos but has a sort of pearlescent shading on my laptop screen.
  20. Its probably not something anyone here has done. People wont know what the question is before they read the post, so obviously you are likely to get a lot of views without an answer. This is the first time I have seen a post on the subject. The last time I heard about one of these valves was on a 1984 MG Metro. To get to the point, I fail to see the point of the valve. I can only assume it is to protect the clutch from people unable to control their releasing the pedal smoothly. I cant see too much of an issue in removing it or probably better to replace it with one that works properly.
