  1. Morning Andrew

I wonder if when the clutch was changed the return springs fitted were the correct ones? Not sure about your model but I know some had a compression spring assembly and some had a normal helper spring Maybe the clutch was changed because it was heavy? Just thinking out loud here as a clutch change wouldn't touch the pedal assembly may be something is seized in the peddle/return spring area

Maybe worth looking at realoem for some indication or maybe if it is the compression spring assembly see if it can be serviced or replaced in case it's worth a look

    Good luck Bud

  2. First were the seats in your original car Sports Seats or Comfort seats ? Comfort tend to have far less support (flatter bolsters) Ask the dealer to see a car with sports seats? Sadly if you didn't specify Sports seats BMW have wriggle room

Due to the faults you always have the right to reject I bet the Dealer will start to put more effort in if you brought that up

  3. Hi Andrew

I have to say the last manual car I owned was a Lotus Carlton in the early 90's all ours have been Auto since

With the Beemer's I have never heard of it before and I know a few with manual 3 series and a couple with 5 series I guess it is what we are used too? I have seen clutch issues but they have tended to be either in the hydraulics or the most common I have seen is sticking release bearings 4 of those

My wife won't drive my X5 says its to heavy on the steering, her Subaru is super light at parking speeds so that's her comparison

  4. Morning Madeline

    Welcome to the Forum

Simple things first, have you tried WD40 in the mechanism and operating it as you do in case its just sticking? The next step I would take is remove the lock and see if it can be fixed on the bench/table if that doesn't work replacement is the the next option.

Check www.realoem.com it is an online BMW Parts List put the last 7 digits of your Vin number into the search box, it will bring up your model then search to find what you need and it's part number. Then do an Internet search for the best price for a replacement.

It could be a dislodged or broken cable or a lock needing replacement if your not very good with spanners or screw drivers you will need some help but it is a job you can do yourself

    Good Luck

  5. Hi Steve

    Welcome to the Forum

On my X5's I reckon on around 60 to 80k so that does seem on the light side, however with my wife's Subaru we had the same advisory 3 years ago. I checked all the bushes and couldn't find any slack or movement ? It's passed it's MOT twice since then with no comment or advisories, we always use the same Garage for our MOT's  so I can only assume a new tester who saw something I couldn't ??

I would check the bushes then if there is no obvious sign of failure and if you have no odd tyre wear, Knocks bangs or clonks wait and see what happens next year it is advisory after all

  6. Morning Dave

    Welcome to the Forum

I take it you have a new X5 and have had the WDH system fitted by a reputable supplier ?

BMW factory fitment is Westfailia,  in Europe BMW tend to wash their hands of any aftermarket fitted systems down grading the towing capacity etc etc. Even when it is a Westfailia system but fitted by a specialist company ??? My E53 4.6is has a factory tow package when it was at the dealer recently (Air Bag Recall) The Service Manager told me that my cars handling could be compromised and I shouldn't tow anything as the sob frame mounting bushes were "non standard and not approved" The bushes in question are upgraded to PolyBushes which have a far better life than BMW standard bushes

If the Hitch is fitted correctly and you obviously have experience of this I would not be to concerned they are just putting two hands on their backside for protection.

    Hope this helps

    Welcome to the Forum

I have a Sealey jump start pack built in compressor and work light it is a few years old now and I am happy to say rarely used these days.

Brought it on line from Sealey tools about 20 years ago

  8. Morning Christopher

    Welcome to the Forum

Don't believe all you read on Google yes many transmissions will reach Star ship mileages but rarely without service, transmission fluids live a hard life so degrade and need fluid and filter changes.

The box in your car from what I have read is made by Aisin Warner and was I believe the first 8 speed FWD auto box while I have not had any direct experience of your box I have had Aisin boxes in Volvo's and my wife's Subaru. I would use google to find an Aisin Warner specialist near you and talk to them. I always stick to Fluid and Filter change every 60k as so many times you hear the "sealed for life" rubbish I interpret that as "End of Warranty Responsibility"

Remember BMW Dealers don't repair/fix anything they just replace with new at their cost !! A good transmission specialist I would expect to be around a 1/3rd of BMW cost to repair. Still not what you want to hear but more manageable I suspect

Your box is in use by BMW. GM, Toyota/Lexus, Volvo so check those while gathering evidence

    Good Luck

  9. Morning Jess

    Welcome to the Forum

What a frustrating time your going through !!

My starting point would be all the earth points, BMW love multiple earth points and earth switching. Also check the engine earth straps

Check www.realoem.com put the last 7 digits of your Vin into the search box it will call up your model. Then look for what you need the small exploded drawings will help locate stuff. My 4.4 X5 had some weird stuff going on which turned out to be one of the Multiple earth points in the boot behind the spare wheel  I took it off cleaned the contact area smeared it with electrical contact paste and remounted it all issues gone. The dealer had suggested a new FCM was probably needed a BMW specialist was heading down a similar path?

Once your confident that the earths are all good (there are several around the car) then if you still have an issue either manually pull fuses to see what stops the current draw. I would also carryout a full diagnostic scan but then I have my own BMW diagnostics program

    Good Hunting

  10. Morning Nick

    Welcome to the Forum

I have read of issues caused by water ingress and other internal issues I have also read of several specialist companies who are refurbishing racks and giving Warranties with their work.

I would carry out an internet search for Repairers and talk to them. Remember BMW do not repair they just replace units so their price is based on the cost of the unit (plus their mark up) then their labour rates (North of £200 phr) all plus VAT not to difficult to reach £3k

    Good Luck

  11. Hi Jenson

    Welcome to the Forum

If I understand your problem (1) Bluetooth is working if your phone connects as you can make and receive calls (2) The problem is you can't stream Music ? Or do you want Carplay?

If Bluetooth works there should be a tick box in the i-Drive menu to enable Media streaming

  12. Morning Mark

Seasons Greetings and Welcome to the Forum

You really need the help of some one with BMW capable fault code diagnostic software, there is a register of BMW Specialists they would have the software and knowledge they will also be less expensive than Dealer prices (normally) A Good Independent Garage should also be able to help

    Good luck

    Dave

  13. Morning Steve

I changed my screen because it was failing plus the navigation was out of date BMW dealer replacement price was in the spare body parts area 🤣

After some reading and research I brought an Erisin Android replacement unit from one of the well known Auction sites. There are several Videos on Youtube for fitting. I chose the Erisin unit as it had the latest Android software (Andoid 10 nearly 3 years ago) but it gave me (1) a 10.25" screen plus a more modern look. (2) The operating system allows a Choice of Navigation systems, Bluetooth, all the apps that you could think of plus Carplay (Apple) and Android Auto. To upgrade the operating system or apps all you need is access to a WIFI network most are free to download/upgrade though some need a subscription

My phone is Android but my daughter who sometimes uses my car when she is visiting like you has Apple when she gets in the car she just connects to Carplay and is away

The system works really well I have helped a couple of our sons friends with changing their units 1 series 3 series 5series and all are happy 2 of them are Apple fans.

    Hope this helps

    Dave

  14. Morning Steve

    Seasons Greetings

I would treat yourself to an Android Head unit/screen it will give you everything your looking for Nav Bluetooth Android Auto and Carplay plus loads of other apps (if you use them). Fitting is really simple and Plug and Play plus you retain all the OEM CiC functions and you can switch between the two using the i-Drive controller

I did it in my E70 a couple of hours work and the change is amazing and no programming which I bet a Combox will need if not fitted at build, plus is the loom there.

    Dave
