  1. Hi Jim....welcome to the Forum

If the fuse blew before and you replaced it then it must have an issue somewhere in the electrical system to cause the fuse to blow.

I would check the replacement fuse hasn't blown and also disconnect components until you eliminate the cause of the overload.

My guess is one of the window motors is straining (sticking mechanism, etc) which is causing the electrical overload

  2. Hi Trevor....welcome to the Forum

Hopefully there shouldn't be anything you will need to look out for with a 68 plate Bimmer, just ensuring that all maintenance is carried out on time at the specified intervals and if something doesn't feel right, take it back for them to resolve it.

    Good to have you onboard

    Cheers,  Trevor

  3. Personally, I would walk away from it....but no guarantee that another one may not have been 'cleaned up' ready for sale and essentially hidden any evidence of leaks, etc

Could be something like front or rear crank seal or even from further up the engine, either way it will involve work and £s

  4. Hi Mike

I came across these on a Facebook page and thought it was a great idea....not sure whether their range covers BMW as yet but maybe worth contacting?

There is a video on his page that shows it auto-opening but cannot share it for some reason

  6. So what can be done?

Deposits are a natural by-product of combustion and without preventative maintenance, accumulate over time.
You may have seen adverts from the big fuel companies talking about the additives added to their premium fuels that tackle deposits.
BG GB say the weakness with this approach is that this additive package contained is such a small percentage, you need to constantly use these more expensive fuels to get any benefit at all.

And far better, more cost-effective results can be gained from once-a-year dedicated treatments.

The Guaranteed BG Fuel Saving Service comprises one product to treat the fuel system and a second to revitalise the vehicle’s oil system:

    • BG 44K® Fuel System Cleaner (or equivalent for Diesel) goes in the tank to clean the fuel system. It’s vitally effective at cleaning carbon-covered fuel injectors.
    • BG EPR® Engine Performance Restoration® flush softens and dissolves hard-to-remove deposits from piston rings, restoring peak compression, ensuring maximum power and efficiency.

If we supply a BG Fuel System Cleaner and BG EPR® Compression Restoration Flush and you do not notice any improvement in your vehicle's performance or economy we'll give you a full refund - Guaranteed! (Money-back guarantee subject to vehicle been driven at least 500 miles and claim made within 3 months of purchase)

Former Stig, Ben Collins, tested the BG Fuel Saving Service on his own Land Rover!

Ben tested the BG Fuel Saving Service on his own Land Rover Defender which he felt was running okay. Since using BG, he reports it's so much smoother - like taking the clock back to when it was new!
The Dyno results before and after visually prove the improvement. The curve demonstrates much more consistent torque (available power) throughout the rev range, with an impressive max gain of 7ft/lbs.

A long-established US chemical company, BG Products put significant investment into Research and Development in order to develop effective products that break down and remove carbon deposits.

BG supply their Powerflow Suite of Professional-use Decarbonisation Tools to Service Centres across Great Britain.
These utilise BG's own-designed and manufactured high-quality chemistry and delivery systems to intensively clean carbon from a vehicle’s critical components, safely and effectively.

  7. Hi Woody....welcome to the Forum

It looks a great car and as you say, lower mileage than most.

Like any car, it depends on how its been treated as to how long it will go on for and how much trouble it will give you en-route.

I would advise checking all service history and also get a proper inspection carried out on it prior to signing on the line.

Otherswise it looks like a great car

You sure it isn't DMF related I am told they make horrible noises and vibration when they are on the way out?

Yes, forgotten about the DMF....especially under load it can make the car shudder if on its way out as Dave has correctly stated

  9. Hi Alan

I take it you're after the exterior handle?
Just looked on eBay and can't find any on there, can only imagine it is a common failure item and hard to source?

Possibly they are common on other models of E36 and may cross over on part numbers?
Try www.realoem.com....put the last 7 digits of your Vin in the search box and it will bring up your model. Then you can search via part number

Let us know how you get on with finding one, hopefully my Z3 handles won't fail but if they do then it's nice to know where to locate a replacement

    Cheers,  Trevor
