  1. It's definitely that time of year again...:-)

Upgraded bulbs are always a positive modification...Philips do a good range of enhanced lighting

Not sure if I'm understanding you correctly but if you press the DSC light it should invoke the 4 wheel drive to ensure stability is maintained but not taking full control of the vehicle...e.g if going off-road for example, where you wouldn't want the DSC taking over?

Good luck with the work on the X5 in this chilly weather

  2. You could find somewhere that has 4 wheel laser alignment and knows how to interpret the readings.

It depends on loads carried and normal driving behaviour but generally the readings should be in between a set of min-max ranges.
With a rear wheel drive car that is displaying this type of symptom, normally the track would be statically set to toe-in and when accelerating it would naturally tend to try to toe-out.
So, it may be worth setting the tracking to maximum toe-in for that particular model (with appropriate load settings, etc) and see if that makes any difference.

I would also look at tyres (pressures, rating, sizes, etc) to ensure that everything is where it should be. Check for uneven tyre wear which could indicate a suspension/steering component that is damaged or excessively worn.

  3. Hi Martin

I cannot say whether there should be some sort of seal on there but I would think so...quite possibly, someone has removed it as it would be date stamped (usually 1 to 2 years for the contents to remain steralised).

I would suggest that the contents are okay to use but if you are really concerned then maybe purchasing a new / sealed one is the way forward.

    Cheers,  Trevor

I stay far far away from that area! I live in Wareham so luckily I get to avoid all of that the only problem is the roadworks on Holes Bay Road and people not knowing what lane to be in! Luckily I commute on a motorbike so most of it is negated

Unfortunately, I'm subjected to the Spur Road for my daily commute to Bournemouth but also ride a motorbike to jump the horrendous queues 🙂

  5. Wow!!!!  That's amazing!  what an awesome look....must have been a joy to build.

High mileage on the bigger Bimmer engines (petrol or diesel) is not really an issue if it is the right sort of miles (which if it is high for the age then suggests its motorway miles which is the right sort). I think mileage tends to put most people off what is essentially a decent car that has been looked after and driven correctly as it affects resale values, but then are you buying it as a keeper or to sell within a few years and not lose too much money.

    Good luck with your search

  6. Hi Trigger...welcome to the Club

Rolling back is an issue as far as I am concern, especially with a stop/start equipped vehicle or with an electric handbrake.

It depends on how many revs on tickover as to whether the transmission is loaded enough to stop the creeping, otherwise it may just need a software update to change the settings.

Let us know how you get on with this issue.

  7. Hi Graham.....welcome to the Forums

You have a Karmann Ghia?  what a superb car!

There's plenty of choice out there and for the money I would certainly consider a later car with higher miles as Bimmers tend to go on forever once they achieve the higher miles...generally all the issues have been resolved over the years, as long as it has been maintained correctly.

Depends also whether you want Petrol or Diesel and that depends on your regular journeys as I'm sure you want a bigger car (e.g. tourer/estate) and this usually comes with a bigger engine so I would bear this in mind when looking for your new family car.

Let us know how you get on with choosing a Bimmer.

    Cheers,   Trevor

  8. Hi Adam....welcome to the Forum

Sounds like you have a bit of a project to contend with....Dave (GreyDog) is the expert on X5's so I'm sure he can guide you in the right direction.

But throw a few problems out there and we may know some of the answers

    Good to have you onboard

    Cheers,  Trevor
