  1. It does sound a bit ominous but it could well be a turbo seal.

If the oil disappears almost immediately then I don't imagine it should be too much of an issue but it if continues for a prolonged period after starting the engine then this could have an adverse effect upon the catalytic converter, so it would be advisable to make a note of this just in case it fails shortly afterwards.

  2. My thoughts are replace the battery and go from there but not sure about the coding side of things though but if the battery is flat there is no harm in trying it.

Usually, (on older BMWs) you would have to code all the keys together (at one time) so not sure if it is the same process.

  3. Hi Baz....welcome to the Club

I would agree with Greydog on everything he has mentioned and also sometimes it can be something as simple as the coolant pressure cap because if this is problematic then it can either not blow....hence the reservoir popping and not the cap releasing the pressure and also if it is weak, this can introduce a lower boiling point.

So for the case of either pressure testing it or even replacing it, it would be worth looking at before spending big money. Also the sniffer test for combustion gas in the coolant is definitely a must as also a cheap diagnostic test.

Temperature Infra-Red gun would determine where the hotspots are in the engine and show coolant circulation temperatures.

  4. Hi Gabor....welcome to the Club

Is it burnt Diesel or a neat unburnt fuel smell?

Fault codes from the ECU would give some information about what is occurring in the system and if it is injector related then so be it, but at £200 a pop, then it's not worth taking a chance without some more diagnostics.

Let us know how you get on with it

    Cheers,   Trevor

  5. Haven't seen any posts about boot badges but personally, I will probably remove mine shortly as I don't like the font styling and think they are too chunky so after the repaint I don't think I'll refit them.
