oh dear...that sounds like it was going to be expensive
Where was it leaking from?

you could always have both of them and take the convertible out on sunny days
....what am I say, of course we don't get sunny days anymore :-(

Hi Gemma....welcome to the Club
Both are absolutely superb cars...I take it you prefer the soft-top over the hard-top then?
Good to have you onboard

Swirl Flaps, yes....and don't think it would invalidate any warranty as it is a positive modification to improve reliability and not the other way round so can't see it would be a problem.

Definitely worth keeping on top of any bodywork and you probably won't have to carry out much maintenance to the rest of the car as they are pretty bulletproof.
Mine was unfortunately written off by a Transit van on the wrong side of the road :-( However, I bought it back as a Cat C and replaced the front bumper and the bonnet and all okay now except for some fresh paint need on the front end (wrong shade of silver paint).
Otherwise, apart from servicing and a front caliper which seized, I have never put a spanner to the car, it never needed anything to be fair. Great reliability!
Any advice you need just ask as I'm sure there are plenty of experience Z3 experts on here who can help

Hi Jamie.....welcome to the Forum
20k budget, you should be able to find what you want but sometimes its just a waiting game....
Only thing I can think of looking out for is the usual wear and tear which you can find on any used car and need to research vehicle history but otherwise, the inlet manifold acoustic valves tend to fail so make sure they are removed and blanked off or budget for it when haggling over price.
Otherwise, great cars...hope you find one soon

HI Gary....welcome to the Forum
Great looking Z3, the same year as mine but looks in far better condition.
Sorry can't help with recommended garages in your area but other members may know somewhere?
It doesn't look like it needs much doing from the piccy
Good to have you onboard

Great result Chris and thanks for the feedback.
I'm sure the cleaning will restore any power loss but again, would be great to know how you get on with it

Hi Jon....welcome to the Club
My first thoughts are.... try it and see....I'm sure someone will know the exact answer but I'm sure you'll be aware quite quickly if you need the spacer or not

Hi all, I just traded my Harley for a 97 Z3 with 92K miles that's in great shape, with just a few small issues
I looked for a place to ask questions and learn more about this car
Hi Bill...welcome to the Club
I too traded my Harley and went out to get a Z3....seems to be the done thing at a certain age I guess.
Good to have you onboard

Wonder if the remote needs programming to close the roof as well, but I know BMW and Merc have auto-drop on windows but not auto-close for safety reasons...could be that I suppose.
You want to try voice control on a Honda....absolute joke!

Continental....I agree, a very good brand with not so much following as the others....maybe its the way they market them?

Hi Kevin....welcome to the Forum
Great car and can be had for not a lot of money.
Mileage is relative to how it's been driven and maintained and if you are getting it for a really good price then it's worth going for if it all checks out okay.
Let us know how you get on with buying it

Hi....welcome to the Forum
FIne looking Beemer you have there....one of the few cars that really lend themselves to being an estate car and carrying off the looks...
Good to have you onboard
Cheers Trevor

Would definitely be interested to know what the cause is, Chris....and hope it's not too much

Hi Chris....welcome to the Forum
I would advise taking the car to an auto electrician, as it's a 20 amp fuse which suggests that there is a short circuit to earth, which if the fuse did not blow then an electrical fire could ensue, which is definitely not a good outcome. For what it cost, and it may be quite quick that the sparky finds the fault, but without the knowledge and equipment to trace the fault it is a non-event in my mind.
Let us know what you find

Hi Dan.....
Thanks for posting up the report and photos, useful to anyone who is thinking of replacing the swirl flaps.
Fine looking motor, would be interested to see the mods as they unfold.

I would definitely try to keep the rolling diameter of the tyres the same all round the car, width isn't a problem though

That's an aweful shame....but these things happen.
Onwards and upwards to another car is sometimes the best way forward
