Morning Paul Welcome to the Forum First has anything else been done to the car ? Jump Start any work carried out? I take it you have checked connections and fuse? flickering could be a loose connector, worth checking the free stuff first. Then there is the old trick of disconnecting the battery for 10 mins or so then re-connecting (acts like a hard reset with a computer) If you dont have a loose connector, I would disconnect spray with contact cleaner and reconnect same with the fuse. If none of this works talk to people like Cartronix, BBA Reman, ECU testing all are experienced with repair of electronic bits, if you get your own instrument cluster repaired you should have no issues. If you get a replacement it will need coding to the car otherwise you will get a tamper dot next to the mileage. Hope this helps Dave

Morning Clive Check the Vac lines before spending your hard earned on a new sensor. You can test resistance on the sensor (just google) to see if it is down. Take a look at www.realoem.com you should find small exploded drawings of the inlet vacuum system that will help. Dave

Hi Chris Welcome to the Forum Lordy you have had a tale of woe What is the service history like? Calliper's seizing I have known that on several Marques normally due to brake fluid not being changed to schedule, but timing chain on the M57 engine that is a rare occurrence they normally are as tough as old boots, my brother inlaw has 5 series touring on his 3rd all have gone well past 200k. Which is why I question it's history. Ride on low profile tyres particularly run flat's is again a well known comment not limited to BMW my AMG's were hard. I take it your on 20" wheels non rum flats will help or you could go to 19" wheels which would help more. My winters are 18" 255 x 55 and ride is vastly different, though they are not on the car due to us not really having a winter for years 😁 There is a Register of BMW Specialists in the UK just Google and find the one nearest you Dave

Glad your enjoying the drive, if not the music 😁 BMW bongs are "wallet alerts" As soon as you have a diagnostic program you can turn off the (code out) the tyre warnings so you don't see or hear them. One push of the DTC button should put you in winter/snow mode it turns off part of the traction control just remember every time you turn off it resets. I am not sure if you can turn off the tyre warning in onboard settings with your model, worth an explore Dave

Morning Das Welcome to the Forum As your car is 2019 it should be covered by BMW's Warranty so your local Dealer should be a starting point Dave

Morning Christopher Welcome to the Forum As a mainly UK Forum I don't think we will be much help with this maybe some of our US members? Have you tried good old Google? Normally a good place to start and then talking with them to narrow down candidates questions like have they done one before (Model/type)? Cost ? Time frame? Dave

Hi Eyvon Welcome to the Forum You have none of the normal gasket indicators as you say in your post No mayonnaise in the oil filler cap No signs of oil in the coolant No coolant loss. The white smoke can be condensation but the smell of fuel, that could be over fuelling or a leak or both. Possibly injector seals? or a fuel line perished I would start the hunt there checking the fuel system for any sign of leaks particularly where it can drip on the manifold Dave

Morning Are you changing the timing chain and chain guides or have you had the head off? My neighbour brought a kit from Ebay cost around £60 when we rebuilt his 530d GT different engine but still needs Vanos and cams held in the correct positions. My V8 the BMW Specialist had the kit (it was a warranty job thank goodness) Vanos were checked and timed electrically. Dave

Morning Lee Is your car 318 petrol or diesel ? If petrol does your car have the inline 4 cylinder or 3 cylinder ? As a rule of thumb a forced injection engine (like Nick's 135 which has a twin turbo system) will respond better to remapping than normally aspirated engines. Not sure about the injector comment, but in the real world injectors are chosen for the fuel delivered at a given pressure and it's spray pattern (atomization) Quantity is controlled by duration. So even a forced induction engine will reach a ceiling for power delivery unless the fuel delivery system is uprated (fuel pump injectors etc) If your engine is 318i four cylinder normally aspirated then remapping wil give fairly small gains. If your engine is 3 cy;inder turbo then gains can be quite healthy. If the engine is 318d then you will see again a significant in crease from a remap. With all tuning it will reach a point of £ spent vs Power gained where it may be cheaper to buy a model with the power you want. Dave

Morning Clive If your buying PA soft make sure it is the latest version when BMW changed Bus systems from Ibus to Most it excluded a lot of readers that are good up to about 2006/2007 I have read that PA soft have a version 2.2 out so you should be able to find it OK Dave

Hi Steve After key removal BMW's take around 15 mins to shut down, it tests and shuts down systems there is an indicator light beside the Gearshift when its out your car is asleep. On my X5 my dash cam is wired to the interior light power above the interior mirror been there 4 years now and no flat battery Dave

Hi Clive Take a look at Carly for BMW there are few users on the UK forums who are happy with it, it's down side is it is subscription. I don't know if there is a Torque app for BMW or what it is capabilities are. Dave

Morning Clive Whoop whoop welcome to the gang. One of the guys on the X5 forum in the UK brought tyre pressure sensors from Amazon and they worked straight out of the box, worth a look. Or you can turn off the the tyre check program using a Diagnostic program, personally if it's there I like it to work. On my brother inlaw's 5 touring I used a piece of nylon coated washing line to clear the drain channels, done it 3 times now as he has to park near trees. Enjoy the new car Dave The transfer case on the Subaru had a crack allowing the oil to leak then low oil level triggered, the Subaru trans specialist who I got the replacement from had never seen it before. The thinking was there was a casting flaw that just gave up under the pressure of some brutal hard starts 😁 must have been the wife !!

Morning Martin Welcome to the Forum I never even thought about this before ?? As BMW have such a diverse options list for new car build I am not sure how you would check apart from physically looking inside So I am not much help I am afraid, have you fired a question to BMW Customer services they may shock you with a useful answer 😁 Dave

Morning Lee Welcome to the Forum Does the noise rise and fall with engine rev's ? It could be a failed ballast suppressor on the Alternator Or is the noise there with the engine off ? It could be a fault with the Amp or speakers Dave

Hi Lester From the description of your discs with the car Mk2 and M3 ? The Mk3 system was CD based the Mk4 DVD based (which should be the one in your car) does the player have DVD on the front? The software came on a CD from memory. Don't want to rain on your parade Google and read the information about the BMW Mk4 DVD Nav system it does not like non standard discs or copied discs, there are many instances of erratic operation even damaged readers after using non original disc's. My 4.6is has the OEM Mk4 DVD system got the car in 2007 the Nav was always "tempremental" then I got the Blue screen and less functions a sign that the Nav is down. Diagnosis confirmed the DVD reader head caput. I found the reader on Ebay (not cheap but cheaper than a replacement unit) stripped the unit replaced the reader and back in business. 2 years and it started to show signs of failing again again, this time I brought a cheap OEM disc from Ebay ran a head cleaner and swapped the discs, all back and running that was 2010 still all good.

2011 328i only starts when key fob in ignition port
Greydog replied to BillC's topic in BMW 3 Series Forum
Morning Bill The antenna issue was well known on the 5 touring didn't show up on a scan but still worth checking On our 11th generation of Wei's got the first one in 74. The black dog is a Shorthair took her on as a 10 month rehome to much prey drive and a dozy owner, she's 11 now and thinks she is a Greydog Dave -
Morning Ravi Welcome to the Forum Very tasty a lovely car in a beautiful spot Dave
-
Morning Lester Sounds like you may have a non factory navigation disc - if nav is fitted - and that will change the language if the speed camera function is turned off. It's a 'feature' of the non original discs. Otherwise it is under the 'Set' option. So as above check your Nav disc and in settings check if you have a Speed Camera setting, if you do it is non OEM try either turning Speed Camera Off or ON Dave

2011 328i only starts when key fob in ignition port
Greydog replied to BillC's topic in BMW 3 Series Forum
Morning Bill Not heard this one before so more trying to think out loud what would be the reason. First my brother inlaw has a 5 series his last one had a similar issue multiple pushes to unlock or lock the car. He brought a new key from BMW (their suggestion) no difference. My BMW Specialist diagnosed the antenna in the rear spoiler apparently a known issue he took it out stripped it dried out the interior and re-soldered a couple of joints resealed it with a hot glue gun issue fixed. Worth a check on yours water getting in somewhere. I have also read of the stop/start buttons having issues Have you had a diagnostic session with a garage or someone who has the software? Hope this helps Dave -
When I pulled the engine to ship to Perrin I had the torque converter uprated and a higher stall speed, mileage at that time was 37k it is now 141k, There have been no issues with the box (I do service it once a year) but early on we did have a cracked transfer case. Must have been the wife !!! In truth it took some stick when I first got it back and on the road, out looking for victims (it just had to be done), it had 2 sessions on a rolling road to get the fuelling right and has been treated as a normal car since. Volume of traffic where we live generally means she is governed by the speed of traffic around us. The Subaru gets a 400 mile round trip a couple of times a year visiting our Daughter unless we take the horses then the X5 takes the strain. My X5 gets a much harder life (151k) with pulling the horse trailer in the summer and mild off road in the winter while out shooting. As said earlier our last proper snow (3 inches 7.5cm) was 8 years ago so the winter wheel/tyre sets I have for both cars are pretty much unused.

Hi Lester Welcome to the Forum There shouldn't be a conflict with Gearbox Software more likely just needs a reset. have you tried, Select SET in bottom left corner . This opens up a menu starting with MPG reset . If you then scroll all the way to the bottom , it'll 'turn' to a new page which has SCREEN , CLOCK , DATE , NAVI VOLUME , COLOUR SET and lastly at the bottom LANGUAGE . Press the volume button to enter and then scroll across to English . The last version of software for the E53 was V32 and I would expect a 2005 model to be running that already. It is well known that BMW's Nav system can be upset by copied or non standard discs. So first question is the disc genuine BMW if it isn't try disabling TP in settings Iwill dig back through my library and send more that may help Dave

Hi Hilary I would stay away from BMW Dealers for 2 reasons First the hourly rates are punitive (my local Dealer is close to £200p/hr) so if you are not able to DIY Google the BMW Specialist Register and find a local one to you. Second they wont repair they only replace components at Dealer price. It sounds as though something on the Infotainment bus is not working and blocking the signal, it needs diagnosing. Not difficult but could be time consuming so a lower hourly rate is important. A Specialist will have the correct software, knowledge and tools to do it as quickly as possible. Or if you want to explore your Infotainment system yourself most of the components are in the boot, locate the "most bus" conductor and unplug it you should see a blinking light (the bus optical signal) if you see it re-plug and move to the next component if there is no blinking light the component before it is at fault and probably needs changing. Check www.realoem.com for where stuff is start from the Generator and work through the system. There are probably some "how to's" on You tube Good luck Dave

Hi john One of my neighbours runs a 120d they are around 40mpg average so even allowing some trade off for AWD your still way off There are 2 temp sensors and thermostats from what I know about BMW diesels one on the EGR one on the engine water pump. If one of them is out of kilter from what I have read your DPF will not regenerate. Dealers can "force" a regen using software I don't know what Diagnostics you have but worth Googling You Tube to see how it's done? With my son's Toyota he has to keep engine revs at around 3k for 10/15 mins driving to start the regen process (advice from the Toyota Dealer) so he leaves it in 3rd and gives it a blast up and down the M23. The SRS fault with my X5 was the passenger seat occupancy sensor, unplugged contact spray and reconnected fault gone Dave

OK have you tried Googling Youtube there are normally a load of "how to's" there
