  1. Morning Scott The egr valve on my sons Toyota pickup clogs as he only does fairly short local journeys, the first time we cleaned it and the inlet hoses it worked fine the second time it looked fine but just didn't operate when it was on the car for some reason. New EGR fitted and all good again remember to clean the inlet pipes and hoses as well his were in a dreadful state. P0401 is a generic code a BMW diagnostic would be better, as you have a hard peddle are you sure all the vac lines are in the right place? Dave
  2. Sorry Jay But the fact that you have codes p0300 etc tells me it is a generic code reader not BMW specific those are general codes read from the DME My reader (BMW 1.4.0) reads every module fitted to the car and gives a clear explanation of any faults in English as and example I currently have a fault with the rear parking sensors. The fault doesn't give a code it simply says "rear inner left sensor fault" in English there are 4 sensors 2 outer 2 inner so finding the offender is simple. Get a BMW specialist to read the codes or ask if there is a member near you with a reader other wise you will just throw money at it. Dave
  3. Depending on mileage the list is quite long, timing chain, injectors, fuel pump, fuel filter, failed or failing sensor, frayed loom to any of the sensors. The car needs to have the fault codes read using a BMW specific scanner otherwise you are asking us to guess, the cost of changing parts will be crazy. I would start with a code reading session Dave
  4. Check www.newtis.info for wiring diagrams which could give a clue
  5. Morning Steve I am guessing here so bear with me. My thinking is that your camera at the moment is piggybacked from a fuse circuit that when the camera wakes up/is disturbed in parking mode it is waking up your car which then goes through full self test increasing battery draw. If this happens several times in a night it could be your problem. First I would disconnect the Blackvue camera to check that is the issue, second if whoever fitted the camera used a piggyback fuse arrangement I would remove it and take a temporary fused supply from the cigarette lighter or under bonnet jump terminal that way if the camera is awake the whole car isn't. Finger Crossed Dave
  6. Morning Matt Welcome to the Forum I use BMW 1.4.0 with my X5's since yours was made and have helped a few others folks with different models (3, 5 series and X3) by carrying out a diagnostic read. You will be able to read codes clear and reset all control modules in the car for your information there are 3 pages depends if all options and accessories were fitted as to how many you will see. You will be able turn on/off functions within the module control also.things like alarm chirp, auto locking etc again a couple of pages of tick box choices. So my experience with 1.4.0 is good, it's simple to set up is user friendly and gives good information. I use it in conjunction with some websites like www.newtis.info a BMW Technical information site and www.realoem.com a BMW parts site to make certain you get replacements that are going to fit. There is also good information at www.pelicanparts.com great how too's with pictures you won't find much diesel engine information as it is an American site and they still think diesel is only for trucks but everything else is there just the steering is on the wrong side. Good luck Dave
  7. Morning Steve Obvious question but here goes, have you googled Blackvue's website to see if there is an online guide or downloadable handbook? Goodluck Dave
  8. Morning Sam Emissions out of whack can be upset by many things from a clogged fuel filter or air leak to worn injectors causing over fueling are just a few. Changing parts is a very expensive way of fixing the issue as sods law dictates you will change a whole bunch of stuff unnecessarily. You do need the diagnostic codes read, that will give you a clearer picture on what and where the issue is. I use BMW 1.4.0 loaded on an old lap top not expensive (about £15) and gets the job done there are many others available and the ability to do a "home" code read is invaluable. Obviously a BMW Dealer can do it but £££ as can a good BMW specialist (there is a Register of BMW Specialists just Google) less ££ and of course a good Independent garage again less ££ or maybe a member on here who is local to you has the kit, worth asking. Also check www.newtis.info it is a BMW Technical information site same information that BMW use for repair/replacement information. www.realoem.com is another useful site this is a BMW online parts list just put the last 7 digits of your car in the search box it will bring up your model, it has useful small exploded drawings that will help with were parts fit. Not an answer but I hope helpful Dave
  9. Morning Jay I did read some time back about an issue like this that turned out to be a worn coil pack loom which was failing under load. Has your mechanic checked both the coil pack loom and injector looms ? Good Luck Dave
  10. You are welcome Also worth considering the gearbox may need a service the older 5/6 speed boxes (as fitted to my X5) should be serviced every 100k kilometers. However BMW in their wisdom stated sealed for life?? many gearboxes suffered with a lurch/hard down change on slowing to a stop. Worth considering getting a gearbox service done, as you have just brought the car maybe twist the Dealers arm a bit Dave
  11. Hi Steve Welcome to the Forum From your description I would guess gearbox mount or UJ/Doughnut coupling. The 330 diesel can produce serious torque so bushes take a hammering, after all you have been driving like Miss Daisy's Chauffeur but the previous owner may have been a tad enthusiastic 😁 Dave
  12. Hi Joe Welcome to the Forum First are all the accessories OEM or has a different radio/nav been fitted or a bluetooth unit? If all is OEM I would check that the car goes to sleep once shut down and key removed, it can take 15mins for the light on the gear change to extinguish the X is now asleep. There will always be a draw but in Mili amps to keep clock time radio memory etc. If the car is going into sleep mode and there is a higher draw then it is a case of pulling fuses until you find the circuit that is causing the draw. I am assuming (a stupid thing to do) the new battery is correct for your car that the car is in regular use and you have had the alternator output checked. If the battery isn't charging correctly plus short journeys will cause the problem as will worn starter motors (not uncommon) check the amperage at the starter if it is high it will knock a new battery back very quickly also check the tightness of the main leads at the charging point under the bonnet and the starter. If the car isn't in regular use then I would use a Ctek charger charge and condition the battery on a regular basis Good Luck Dave
  13. Morning Martin Our logic and that of the folks who put the site together are clearly at odds I found this in the Electrical system folder for a 320d https://www.realoem.com/bmw/enUS/showparts?id=8D12-EUR-07-2015-F30N-BMW-320d_ed&diagId=61_2896 Also try www.newtis.info for how too information link below https://www.newtis.info/tisv2/a/en/e93-320d-cab/repair-manuals/61-general-vehicle-electrical-system/61-67-headlight-cleaning-system/ Good Luck Dave
  14. Hi Tunebyear You can also get some great information from www.pelicanparts.com an American site so the steering is on the wrong side but they do have some really good "how too's" with pictures. An 8 year old is a useful tool to have in the box, they are much bendier and tend to be intuitive with techy bits. Dave
  15. Morning tunebyear Welcome to the Forum A scanner will certainly help you not just with the suspension. Make sure it is a BMW specific scanner or you will only see generic codes nothing specific your car. Take a look at www.realoem.com put the last 7 digits of your Vin in the search box it will bring up your model. This site is a BMW parts list with exploded drawings so you can see where stuff fits. Also look at www.newtis.info a BMW Technical Information site the same information that Dealers use which again should help. Enjoy your new educational toy Dave
  16. Morning Martin There are filters at the pumps pickup in the reservoir they become clogged with a jelly like residue caused by certain windscreen washer mixes. The washer filters are easy to clean just look at www.realoem.com check out the washer system drawing they will help in knowing where to look and what to do. With my X5 there are 3 pumps so 3 filters, windscreen, rear screen and high pressure headlamp/windscreen. Once a year I take the wash reservoir out remove the pumps and clean the filters. Hope this helps Dave
  17. Morning Denis Welcome to the Forum We need to hear the noise? It could be so many things loose heat shield or engine cover, loose exhaust mount or (we hope not) something mechanical. Fingers crossed it's simple Dave
  18. Morning Tim Seems odd, I have to say I haven't noticed if they are on or off when cars pass me? Mine are HID dip conventional mains. Have you checked the hand book to see how they operate? Have you got blown bulbs or warnings? Are the main beam lamps LED? Maybe they can be turned on via the Software? Not much of an answer just more questions sorry Dave
  19. Morning Geoff Welcome to the Forum E53 speakers are flaky I am afraid the problem could be the speaker or the wiring the only way is whip the door card off and check the speaker. Either by testing or by a known working one, take care when removing the inner membrane that you dont tear it if you do make sure you repair it they are known source of leaks. The door handle LED (interior is often that it has been dislodged by someone who missed it when putting the door card back Take a look at www.realoem.com put the last 7 digits of your Vin in the search box it will bring up your model, then search the sections for what you need. There are useful small exploded drawings so you can see where stuff goes (or is meant to) Also www.newtis.info this is a BMW technical information site BMW dealers use the same information. ENJOY Dave
  20. Morning Luke Welcome to the Forum I will try to answer your points in reverse order 1. On a 5 year old car with a solid history I wouldn't foresee any serious issues. The engine is one of the worlds great engines, the tried and tested drive train is like wise solid but both need proper servicing. All modern cars are reliant on complicated electronics so my advice is get a good BMW specific code reader you will be amazed at what you can achieve. 2. When you say owners manual do you mean the book pack which comes with the car? Or a workshop manual? If it is the Book Pack I would try Ebay or similar. Web sites that will help are www.realoem.com This is an online Parts list for all BMW models just put the last 7 digits of your Vin number into the search box and it will bring up your model. Invaluable when buying parts. www.newtis.info this is a BMW online Technical information site if you wish to do DIY then this is a great help. As mentioned above a BMW specific code reader is essential for DIY plus you can code the mirrors etc (normally tick box) if they are fitted which a Dealer will charge ££££ to do Good luck enjoy your car Dave
  21. Morning Robert Welcome to the Forum Take a look at www.realoem.com put the last 7 digits of your Vin number in the search box it will bring up a parts list for your model. Searcg the Audio section and you will see the OEM upgrades that are available. Then check www.newtis.info for how to information. Hope this helps Dave
  22. Morning Danny Take a look at www.newtis.info It is a BMW Technical Information site. Check the wiring diagram's for your model, I would check the speaker cables for continuity in case one or more have broken the flex part at the door loom is a possibility. Don't ignore the speakers they were a fail point on X5's Dave
  23. Hi Adam Not sure about the 1 series set up but with the X5 there is a solenoid distribution valve on the nearside inner wing in the engine compartment if it sticks or one of the solenoids fails no heat (why always the driver side?) It could be the air distribution flaps sticking or broken I would check www.realoem.com and look at the small exploded drawing see if it can give you some clues Dave
  24. Welcome to the Forum Jan Try the for sale section I am sure you will get some feed back Dave
