Morning Alan I would think if it is possible it needs activation in the Operating system However I have to ask "Why" all my BMW's have had voice activation to some degree but I have never used it I tried on the early X5 then it was Radio and Phone only and to say the least it was not good !! A request like "phone home" would be answered with something unrelated like Radio 4 selected 🤣 So I have never bothered since all the buttons work and so do my fingers 😅😂 Dave

Morning John Not just the marques you name the poor old gearbox and Diffs are probably the most abused parts of any car. With most Garages Oil and Filters and a quick visual inspection is seen as a service (time is money) ZF Service intervals are 60k to 100k Kilometres (about 60k miles) So "sealed for life" for most Marques meant "End of Warranty Responsibility" My X5 E53 4.6is was serviced by ZF the cost was £630 (8 years ago) but they pulled the Mechatronic unit serviced it and fitted new seals flushed the Torque converter the put it all back. Even though my box was smooth it felt better after service. My X5 E70 I have doe myself using genuine ZF parts cost was £220 Fluid Filter Sump Seal and Bolts (Euro Car Parts last year) I also changed fluid in both Diffs and Transfer Case Check Google for ZF specialists or a ZF service centre for costs if your not into DIY Dave Tip make sure you can undo the fill plug before draining the fluid I had to help a friend who had drained his box then couldn't undo the Fill plug and damaged it

Hi Stuart As Stu has said Welcome Clean the lights through the bulb holder space. Use a piece of sponge on the end of wire then cloth to dry out the condensation use a hair dryer or heat gun to make sure then a small bag of Silica Gel should keep things clear. Paul also posted a fix that may help Test and check the speaker connections as Stu says From memory the seat bolster has a hoop type support may be it is broken away at one end ? Never come across it but always possible Most important ENJOY your beemer Dave

Hi Stu The only bit left is the air gap sensor to reluctor ring. Try measuring the air gap on one of the other wheels make sure the mounting area is absolutely clean and the sensor fully seated a small difference can make all the difference The X5 can still send you Bonkers Good Luck Dave

There were some well documented incidence of them failing over the years and they can be a pain to fix from what I have read. Never done one personally, that may explain your specialists reaction. Hello Zat Welcome to the Forum Is your Warranty/Protection plan with BMW or an Aftermarket Company ? If it is an After market Warranty then they will just require proof of service to support the Warranty. There is a register of BMW Specialist's in the UK Google will help generally their Labour rates are around half that of BMW Dealers but they do have the knowledge and equipment to carry out all service and repairs needed Experience tells me most Service our selves statements mean Oil and Filter as the cars iDrive system records service intervals against time/distance it probably hasn't been touched. Even Dealers tend to record the service electronically and on the iDrive these days so you may have to ask for the service book to be stamped 😁 Progress Personally I have never trusted Extended service intervals and always carry out a full service annually Good Luck with finding a Specialist and enjoy your new car Dave

Hi John In the late 70's through the 80's we had a business and by buying some Company cars and Leasing others we were able to indulge ourselves I had a couple of Cosworth's the last being a Cosworth Sapphire which I didn't have long before it was stolen (they were top of the list in those days) That was a Lease car and when they offered a replacement our insurers gave a quote that was almost the cost of the car !!!! They offered me the Carlton (Chassis 32) instead and the insurers accepted it (I will never figure that out) Had a few Volvo's all estates my wife loved them for pulling the Horse trailer and plenty of room in the back for children and dogs. Started with 760's then 960 then the 850 T5 and 850R MK1 V70 T5 x4 then V70 T5 AWD and T6. All the Volvo's were Auto Then in 2000 my wife suffered shoulder damage and found the Volvo's heavy to park we found the Subaru Outback to be super light on steering so that is where she has stayed I brought the first X5 not long after to pull the Horses. A wife and daughter with horses I sometimes thought divorce was a plan 🤣🤣 Children all grown up and away from home so now we just have more Horses and Dogs (I don't ride just pay) 😂

Then you need the same box or you will need the skills and equipment to re program the gearbox ECU so it can communicate with the Engine DDE and several other of the cars ECU's The box that is in there has the fluid level been checked ? If a bump causes disconnect I would also check the loom Take a look at www.realoem.com it is an online BMW parts list put the last 7 digits of the Vin into the search box it will call up your Model. Then search the gearbox section, if you double click the part number (in Blue) it will bring up a list of other models the box was used in, if nothing their then choice is limited I am afraid Dave

Morning Veigar Welcome to the Forum The box in your car should be 5 speed ZF A5S440Z it may be cheaper to service/repair the box than look for a replacement. When was the box last serviced? ZF advise service every 60 to 100k (kilometres) If you were thinking of an upgrade there is a lot of work including ECU matching Good Luck Dave

Very nice looking car John I hope you enjoy it as much as your 325 Strange how sometimes the way the car develops and delivers it's power can feel so different. I owned a Whale tale Cosworth that felt fairly ordinary until 3k then hold tight, two E55 AMG's that were brutal yet the CLS 63 AMG despite having nearly 200hp more never felt like the 55's (made it easy to collect points if you weren't careful) The only car I have had that felt really strong was the Lotus Carlton it always felt like it was delivering every ounce of power My X5 4.6is was mildly tuned (uprated Cams and Throttle body) acceleration is instant, the Diesel needs to be above 2.5k before it starts to move. I had both cars at Goodwood a couple of years ago and lap times were within tenths yet the V8 always felt faster. Get the 635 rolling road tested just so you know it's delivering as it should maybe even an ECU tune The main thing is ENJOY it Dave

My X5 is the same engine as the 635 your considering over the last weekend we covered just under 700 miles Sussex to Yorkshire and back and some trips over the hill to Penrith Where I can I don't spare the horses so proper Motorway speeds maintained, average MPG was 38 which is pretty good for a big car with the aerodynamics of a brick and for one of the trips to Penrith I pulled a trailer for a friend 😁The 635 should be much better than that on fuel Hope the deal works out Dave PS I also had an X5 E53 4.6is and held onto it as there are less than 200 left on the road. A local BMW Specialist persuaded me to sell it to him recently now I miss it !! Keep the 325i

Hi Guys In 2001 BMW stopped using a "soft" adhesive to seal the lenses on Headlamps, you used to be able to use a heat gun to soften it and prize them apart. I fitted "angel eyes to many E53's and 3 series up until then, After October that year it was a Dremel used very carefully and a Hot glue gun to seal them up again. With the condensation a friends Jag XF was suffering after a lot of Head scratching and to avoid Jaguars suggestion "fit new Lamp Units £££ (all dealers are the same) We got some small bags of Silica Gel removed the lamp units from the car and removed the bulbs and holders, then a heat gun was used to dry them out as much as we could then a soft cloth on the end of a Bike brake cable outer we cleaned the inside of the lens as best we could. A small bag of Silica Gel was attached to a piece of fine wire (Fuse wire in this case) and lowered just inside through the bulb access hole formed and trapped there by the Bulb Holder and bulb when in operation they cant be seen and he 'had condensation problems since Worth a go Dave
