  1. Hi Dimitriis I used a Thermal Fan Switch 38mm for the top hose on a V8 Defender/Discovery. The actual Electric fan came from a later model 4.4 V8 X5 and after removing the engine driven fan and shroud was a straight replacement just needed a little thought wiring it in so it looked OEM Good Luck Dave
  2. Morning Fee Welcome to the Forum How's the water today 😆 I think you should be OK, just buy yourself a Faraday Bag to pop the fob into or the car will thing your still in it Or get a water proof pouch and take the fob with you Hope your enjoying your new BMW Dave
  3. Or you could take the bulb out of the lamp and see what effect it has on battery drain 🤣 Just looked at a wiring diagram and there is a 2 position switch but no location I would assume you have had your fingers on it Dave
  4. Hi Daniel Welcome to the Forum From your description if the noise only happens in one gear and at certain revs it would seem to me to point towards a Gearbox problem A gearbox service may help but to be certain you would need the help of a Gearbox specialist. Or if you have DIY skills you could fit an exchange box yourself (don't forget new clutch) Dave
  5. Morning Stu Take a look at www.pelicanparts.com BMW Articles section you will find an excellent guide with pictures Hope that gets it sorted Dave
  6. Hi John Sunny Sussex 🤣 The Land fill site is around 5 miles away (as the Seagull flies) the Industrial Estate where they congregate and nest around 1/2 mile and like you we are on the flight path We also have our fair share of Magpies, Crows Pigeons, one of our sons put an Owl silhouette up on our roof, the Seagulls take no notice at all the pigeons were the only ones who gave it a wide berth until they worked out it never moved now they sit beside it 🤣🤣 The E70 has a Ceramic coating which seems to make it easier to wash (regularly) my wife's car lives in the Garage (wonder how that happened)
  7. Morning Jamie Welcome to the Forum As you have had a few "practice" models the E53 will be a doddle 😂🤣 All E53's feel heavy on the steering my wife won't drive the X5's unless it is essential (can be a bonus) Enjoy your new hobby Dave
  8. Not far from where we live is an Industrial estate and Sea Gulls nest there. I didn't think a bird could do that much !!!!! 🤣 Enjoy the Summer Dave
  9. Morning Welcome to the Forum First you need to establish what is fitted to the car Basic with CD, Business with CD or Radio with Nav use a Vin Decoder to establish what system was fitted at Build Then go to www.realoem.com put the last 7 digits of your Vin into the search box it will bring up your model then look at the Audio Section. Now the fiddly bit you need to remove the radio to get the part number and check against the site part numbers so if you need a replacement you get the right one. It could be that it has been replaced but with the wrong unit or it has a fault. There are a few Companies who repair or upgrade them ECU Testing and Cartronix I have experience of. Dave
  10. Morning Dimitris Welcome to the Forum With the E53 4.6is I fitted an Electric Engine fan from a later 4.4 model controlled by aan 88deg thermostat inserted in the top hose, that combined with a Febi engine thermostat rated the same kept things cool even when towing our Horse trailer Hope this helps Dave
  11. Welcome to the Forum John Enjoy your Beemer Dave
  12. Hi John Sounds like goodish news hopefully not expensive As the suns out you could just leave the top down, no noise then 🤣🤣 Me I don't even have a sun roof 🤣😂 so I can report no noises plus I don't have enough hair to allow the wind in it 😂 Dave
  13. Hi Rob Welcome to the Forum The 1 series you owned was it a diesel? I would at a guess it was a 118d or 120d, extended service intervals really caught many N47 engined BMW owners and BMW out. The engines that were getting oil changes seemed to fair much better The engine in the E46 is different N46 at the low-ish mileage 55k oil and filters would always be my priority to give the engine a better chance at a long life Lots of things effect ball joints and rubber bushes. Just helped a neighbour with a suspension rebuild he got a complete kit for £120 Lower wishbones track control arms and Anti roll bar links took around 3 hours with tea and biscuit breaks. Check the internet or your local motor factors for costs then use it as a negotiating point Good Luck with the purchase Dave
  14. It will be in the Boot then behind the lining trim. The lines you see are the Hydraulic lines If you are not confident then talk to a BMW Specialist or trusted Independent Dave
  15. Morning David I have read quite a lot about folks having issues with the BMW App not a user myself can't see the point. I have seen fixes from reloading the App (several times) to getting the cars software updated then reloading the App Dave
  16. Hi John Is your car soft top or tin top ? The Soft tops have a hydraulic system 2 hydraulic rams (left and right) and 2 hydraulic tension rams the pump has a built in reservoir which if it is the same as the one I have seen it only holds a small amount of fluid (top up bottles are 250ml). It sits in the storage area for the roof First check all the lines run your fingers around them feel for any wetness/leaks check the rams are clean and all joints are clean If no sign of leaks then remove the trim in the storage area or boot to expose the pump. The pump has a nylon tank with minimum and Maximum marks on it (while you can unbolt the pump for better access DONT undo any hydraulic lines there is a fill plug on the pump body if the fluid is low before topping up look for leaks Check online You Tube may have some helpful videos Dave
  17. Wow what a saga still could have been worse I suppose you could have been waiting for the AA 🤣🤣 Might have been quicker to appeal to one of us 🤣🤣 and quite a few of us know more than the RAC or AA Glad your back safe Dave
  18. Morning John Check the hydraulic fluid level Dave
  19. Morning Taysir The more information we get the more it seems like either low fluid or overheating (or both) Hope you get a sensible fix Dave
  20. Morning Kevan Welcome to the Forum The battery in the telematics unit is/should be rechargeable so the fault may lay elsewhere but the battery is easy to replace if needed If you have a little patience and ability at DIY you can change it yourself the only bit you may need help with is re-setting the Fault code First use www.realoem.com put the last 7 digits of your Vin into the search box, it will bring up your model. Look in the communication section to get part numbers and the location of the Telematics unit. Removing the unit will need a little patience a very clean hands, The battery is under a cover on the Telematics unit Before starting disconnect the cars battery (Neg first) When yu have changed the battery in the Telematic unit and put it back reconnect the cars battery. it should with luck reset any codes. If not this is the point where you need either a Garage or member near you who has a BMW capable diagnostic programme to reset the Fault code If you really need a Garage Google the Register of BMW Specialists there should be one near you Good Luck Dave
  21. Ahhhh Good old Devon and Cornwall your Sat Nav will have real problems finding any Main roads let alone Motorways or Toll roads 😅 Enjoy your Holiday Dave
  22. As your car is new is your Dealer not being very helpful ?? Dave
  23. Morning Chris Welcome to the Forum What an impossible question unless we can hear it !!! Is the rattle inside the car or underneath ??? Inside. I would start by taking all your stuff/junk out of the car empty all the pockets and storage trays, glove box check under the seats. Once the car is clear is the rattle still there if it is then you are looking for loose trim which may need some detective work. Outside. I would check under the car for anything loose. Heat shields Exhaust under body shields Good Luck Dave
  24. Morning Rod As with all car purchases History History History (although these days with extended service intervals that may not tell you much) General condition inside and out and does everything work as it should are a good indicator, you know from experience there are no cheap fixes. A battery condition check may help Good Luck with the hunt Dave
  25. Hi Taysir As this guy has already drained the fluid is he even sure that the levels are correct ??? I doubt they are as you seem to have an over heating trans (having to wait for it to cool down) Sadly stay away from there. A decent Trans Specialist will tell you straight away by diagnostics if the TCM has a fault, here in the UK a ZF 6 speed auto service kit Fluid Filter and Sump costs around £250 so if the work were carried out by a Trans Specialist I would expect a cost of around £500 maybe £600 in USD probably $650 to $750 Check for any leaks check the Trans cooler is working OK your trans should be operating around 90c 190f if it is above that then something is wrong. How is engine temp? in the middle of the gauge ? Dave
