id have a 5 series, really really want a e46 M3 though but insurance is giving me a big smack in the plums for the next few years lol only other car id have is a evo 8 are 9, funny thing is though, insurance on the evo would be at my age now, no more than 2k fully comp. M3 = 3800!!!!!! dont understand that one bit

as gav says , mines on 117k and has a few niggles but nothing major are that worries me. my megane had 61k , always serviced every 6-10 months, always warmed up correctly and it was on its last legs when i sold it! nothing but problems. gav will no what i mean ;)

looking at the pictures it looks like it is surface rust so not broken thru from underneath. basically it could be little spots of iron (or something that rusts!) on top of the hub. theres a fairly new product out called iron x, spray it on and leave for a few minutes to get rid of the iron, id then give them a good scrub with soap/water, dry off then use a sealent, a wheel sealant would most likly work well on hubs.

are you trying to get the windows to come down with the remote? if so you have to hold the button down while they go down

id check to see if the rolling radius is any differnt. theres a web site you can use to check but cant remember what it is! basically your 17s with whatever tyres and your 18s with 225 40s might be the same overall radius so your speedo etc etc wont be out. cant help with the resets though, anything in the manual?

welcome to the club, as gav said mileage doesnt seem to be a major problem on bmws. get one with as much service history as possible though. cant comment on auto boxes im afaid, but like gav id prefer a manual. also check for rust, although not a car that has major rust problems, ive noticed the one place it does usually appear is the wheel arches and on the tailgate were the handle strip is, also on the bonnet around the grille which is prone to stone chips.
