Rear Bumper Removal.
Hi folks, I while ago I posted how my right side of my bumper was pranged and I had it repaired it was ok until someone rubbed it again. It now also has a nice paint removal on the passenger side courtesy of a stupid woman in an X5 who didn’t bother to get back to me. No witnesses so no repair. Anyway I managed to get an undamaged E90 bumper in the same colour similar age for really good money. So I have a couple of questions. 1. Removing the old bumper. 1. Remove both taillights 2. Remove screws in the rear arches (3) and the screw on the edge of the bumper near the top. 3. Remove all the screws on the underside. 4. Remove the screws under the tabs next to the lights where the black trim is under where the boot lid sits. 5. Unhook the 4 tabs under the light fittings (2 per side). 6. This is where I’m unsure. There are 4 tabs per side on the side on the bumper near where the metal starts. I have seen 2 suggestions to remove the bumper. 1 is a sharp pull backwards frees it up and the other is pushing the bumper inwards from the side whilst prying the tabs downwards. Please tell me it’s the pulling the bumper backwards as I don’t want to be prying anything near the bodywork. Second question is that my old bumper is pretty much structurally sound apart from 1 paint removal, a small rise in the centre and the right side that has been repaired. This was just a scrape that was sanded flat pretty much it just needs prepped & painted. Selling price? If anyone is local to Glasgow i could have a chat about selling to you advantage being you can see it before you buy. Thanks Andy

Any Painters Out There
Snypa_D, It was a call out guy i went to. I agree it was a fairly steep price for what needs repaired. There is no dmage it is just 2 paint scuffs. One of which is pictured and described in the OP. The second is smaller. I can undestand the cost behind it. Then im not a painter. Ill get a look around at other companies. Im in glasgow if there is anyone does it on here. Andy

Any Painters Out There
Gav, Thanks for your reply. I got a quote of £195 for the repairs. The question is more leaning towards buying bumpers of the same colour and swapping them out and selling my old ones on. The info you provided about the fitting is useful as if I can get an M-kit with the bits n bobs attached then that's great, I can fit it straight on. If not it will be pre facelift standard ones that will accept the stuff I have (without the parking bits). I know that when the bumpers are sprayed there will be a slight difference in the paint. However if I get a bumper of the same age & colour do you think the difference will be as noticeable or more so to the point they would have to be blended. If so I don't need a spray shop to do that for me. selling on the old bumpers which have only cosmetic damage could go some of the way to covering the cost of the replacements. Thanks Andy

Any Painters Out There
Hi, Some woman reversed into my car and took a bit of paint off the bumper. Anyway we exchanged details and she never came through with any promises. Long & short no witnesses and im not risking a 50/50 on my insurance for a nothing repair. I was thinking. I could have it resprayed........Or i could get my paws on a bumper from the same year & model of the same colour and it should be very close? If so. Is there any parts seller who have one and would take an exchange for my unit to have primed ready for any colour? Im looking in places like ebay etc to try source a bumper (titanium silver with sensors for a 2006 E90). To get a mint bumper remove mine and prime it then resell. Opinions? Andy

Anyway how can you reset this? Is it a cable only job or can I reset from the dash or disconnect battery etc. Oh it's a 2006 E90 Cheers Andy

Common Problems With Your E46
Hi, Just thought i would ask this for a mate. He has a 2000(or somewhere in that region of time) plate E46 323i. When he does long distances at speed He gets out the car and smells hot/melting rubber on the rear passenger side. He has had it a BMW specialist who cant figure it out. So has anyone here had this symptom and found out what it was? There isnt any wear on his tyres etc. Possibly a rubbing brake heating a wheel and in turn heating anything attached to the wheel? Im outa ideas :) Andy

Servicing A E90 320D
Arnold clark "serviced" my car and asked if i would like some additional components done. I said ok what are the additional components. They said the Air, Pollen and Fuel Filters. So i said What did you do in the service? They said we done an oil change. Thats not a service lol Anyway They quoted me £250 for the parts fitted. I was wondering. What do these parts cost from BMW? I looked on euro car parts as a guide and the dearest option (non performance) for all 3 is £70. I was thinking of sticking in a K&N Air filter instead of a standard one. The cost of a K&N is £40-£50. So if a BMW is similarly priced or dearer then its a no brainer get the K&N. I also have white powdery stuff coming in the vents i have had since i got the car last year. Possible pollen filter breaking up? What are my options with them? The air and Pollen filters are easy to change im not sure about the diesel filter so ill get someone who knows what they are doing for that.

Biodiesel
Odd you should say that as the gerneral feeling seems to be that the older cars are the ones that most folk say are problematic due to the seals etc need to be changed to accept the bio-diesel.

Biodiesel
The local good quality seller is doing 100% stuff @ £1.19ppl

Biodiesel
Anyone running it how do you do it how much does the system/fuel cost Anyone know anything about running Bio-diesel. Its currently 26p per litre (for good stuff non of this outa the chippy into the car !Removed!) cheaper (a saving of about £16 per tank. Unsure what if anything i would need to do to the car. The website for the filling station over London Road claim you need to do nothing but im skeptical about that. Gimme a clue guys would be appreciated. Still looking for the Boot Mat Handle filler piece anyone for a spare? (E90)
