  1. Hi Chris...welcome to the Forum The bikes are great to work on but not sure the cars are that easy :-) Good to have you onboard Cheers Trevor (GS1200 owner)
  2. Glad to hear you have resolved the starting and running issues. Just ensure the timing chain is replaced at some point as it is a major failure item that is best sorted before it becomes an issue
  3. Probably won't hear the lift pump but definitely try a new battery as a faulty one can definitely affect the electronic systems
  4. Hi Jarmisson....welcome to the Forum It appears that the Glow Plug Control Module is usually at fault when these codes appear. Also check for chaffed wiring leading to or from the moduel http://workshop-manuals.com/bmw/3_series_e90/320d_n47_sal/2_repair_instructions/12__engine_electrical_system_(n47)/21__preheating_relay/1_ra__replacing_glow_control_unit_(n47)/ Let us know what you find Cheers Trevor
  5. Hi Chris....welcome to the Forum As an owner of a Z3 and in the process of resto-modding it, I am always up for finding out about electronic mods. Feel free to post up anything that you may be working on Good to have you onboard Cheers Trevor
  6. Great to hear that you have addressed some of the issues but that you have now inherited a few more. Keep us posted on how you get on with the recalls.
  7. Hi MalcMac...welcome to the Forum You could have a look at these Tuning Boxes https://www.diesel-performance.co.uk/systems_available.php?id=4867 Have one on my Honda and can highly recommend it Cheers, Trevor
  8. Hi Andy It could well be the other valve or even an ignition based problem as well as a knock sensor problem. I would personally start by looking at the ignition system as if you have problems there it could be reflected in the other two systems...certainly worth checking first.
  9. The front brake calipers should be straightforward push in pistons unlike the rears which will be wind in type.
  10. Hi Tony...welcome to the Forum I would check the boot struts (if they have any visible struts...not sure) as the version number used to be displayed on them. But use Realoem to confirm, but usually just a size difference on the discs and pads. Let us know how you get on with it Cheers Trevor
  11. Hi Paddy....welcome to the Forum Let us know how you get on with the new wheels Cheers, Trevor
  12. Hi Craig...welcome to the Forum Sorry to hear you're having such bother already. If it was me attempting to diagnose the fault, I would first run a Leak Down Test (introducing compressed air into the cylinders and seeing where it is escaping from). If you put the cylinder being tested on BDC and remove the rad cap, if there are air bubbles in the coolant then you have a cracked cylinder liner or head gasket if the piston....try it also at TDC. Repeat for all cylinders. If the air is escaping through the inlet or exhaust then it would be valves or if it is coming out of the oil filler cap it would be piston rings. Saves a huge amount of stripping down to establish exactly where the problem is. Let us know how you get on with it Cheers Trevor
  13. Hi Jordan....welcome to the Forum I believe the badge is 82mm and there are various options for designs available on eBay. Let's hope your Beemer gives you many years of trouble-free motoring. Cheers Trevor
  14. Hi Bruce....welcome back to the Forum Not sure about the height when fully elevated but maybe worth measuring outside before attempting it indoors...but if you do, please make sure you video it :-) Not sure also if the manufacturers would put information such as 'height required' in the handbook? Cheers, Trevor
  15. Hi Madison....welcome to the Forum Very nice indeed! I like the registration number, very appropriate
  16. Hi Andrew....welcome to the Forum If the engine light is on and the economy meter/gauge is wondering from low to high, I would imagine it has something to do with the Air Mass Meter or MAP sensor (if fitted). Look for split vacuum hoses in the engine bay, otherwise, I would imagine any local garage can scan your car and give you a diagnosis for around £35-40. Let us know how you get on with it Cheers Trevor
  17. It depends on where you live, Ian, in Dorset no-one tends to let you out in whatever you're driving/riding....very territorial about their bit of space on the road I guess.
  18. Hi Ben...welcome to the Forum That is a fine looking Beemer...absolutely looks the business! Don't think it needs any more mods, looks fine as it is in my opinion Good to have you onboard Cheers, Trevor
  19. Hi Matt....welcome to the Forum I totally agree with Greydog on his judgement with the oil specs and the fact that your X5 has done a higher mileage I don't think I would go with the lighter grade...best to go with the 5w40 and you shouldn't need any additional additives if you get a quality oil (Mobil1, Shell, etc) Let us know how you get on with it all. Cheers, Trevor
  20. Hi Ian....welcome to the Forum and welcome to the dark side (the wonderful world of BMW) Cheers, Trevor
  21. Good luck with your venture, amazing what you can do with a 3D printer nowadays
  22. Hi Phillip Exactly as Greydog has mentioned, carefully check the wiring, alternatively plug in the instrument cluster and wiggle the wiring leading up to it to see if that brings it to life, if so then you've found the break/short circuit. The instruments went out on my Z3 just the once so never bothered to find the fault. But also worth checking to see if there is water ingress anywhere under the dash or in the boot area. Keep us updated on what you find with this. Cheers Trevor
  23. Hi Stuart...welcome to the Forum Certainly sits nicely on those wheels Cheers, Trevor
