Loose wiring underbonnet 118D (M47 engine)
Greydog replied to Destroyer-Dan's topic in The Owners Club General Discussions
Hi Dan Have you checked www.realoem.com Dave -
Morning Craig As you are aware a motorway warrior can rack up massive mileages without stressing an engine (the driver but not the engine) If you either find some one local who has a BMW capable diagnostic system or buy one for yourself they are no different to any other car. www.realoem.com I find invaluable for parts information and the small exploded drawings show where stuff fits Hope it works out Dave
-
Hi Craig Welcome to the Forum If you don't know about the oily bits either get a Mechanic to inspect it with you or an AA/RAC inspection Buying from a Dealer will give more protection though don't dismiss Private sales. History with proof of work carried out is paramount everything should work as it should. There are no cheap fixes don't fall for the " Never bothered me that it didn't work and they are only £xx on Ebay" Ask yourself if it was that easy why leave it? Ride should be good no rattles clunks or bangs, Engine should have no rattles or knocks and gear changes smooth Good Luck Dave

Morning Tracey Welcome to the Forum To run your engine needs Air, Fuel, Compression and if petrol a spark. So the fuel pump and its controlling relay and fuses need checking fuel delivery/testing. As does the whole delivery from the tank to the engine, fuel pressure needs checking at the fuel rail. The fact it happened so fast I would suspect a Fuse or Relay possibly a Crank sensor or fuel pressure sensor To save a lot of time a Diagnostic session using a BMW capable scanner would help pinpoint te issue Dave

Morning Richard If it meets LLO4 specs you will be fine I am sure after all Penzoil are a well known name in competition and as a commercial supplier of lubricants (just not in the UK) In the 90's when car manufacturers started quoting extended service intervals is when the obsession with oil began. By telling those innocent car buyers who believe the hype that oil changes at 30k intervals are fine. After all they really don't care once the car is out of warranty they wash their hands. Remember BMW also keep telling owners Gearboxes are sealed for life?? Then sell service kits and Fluid when the ZF say fluid changes every 60 to 80k depending on use. What BMW are saying is "life" is the end of their warranty responsibility and they are not alone VW/Audi Mercedes As said I change oil every 5k (around a year for me these days) gearbox service as ZF schedule Dave
-
Morning Richard I would talk to Pennzoil they should be able to advise on the oil specs. Personally I use either Mobil or Castrol fully synthetic oils and have done since the mid 80's, I also ignore the extended service intervals and change oil at 5k intervals. You should find information on Oil spec in your hand book normally as long as it meets LL04 BMW spec it should be OK the newer specs also protect (or so I am told) DPF/PPF life on the new cars Dave

Hi Naveen Have you checked www.realoem.com put the last 7 digits of your Vin into the search box it will bring up your model then look through the sections for what you need. There are small exploded drawings that will show where stuff fits and give part numbers and fasteners Then Google the part numbers for best price Dave
-
Hi Naveen Is the battery the correct Stop/Start battery ? Dave
-
Hi Bob Simple answer is wrong size tyres on the rear On 18" rims you should have 225 x 40 x R18 88W or Y rated. Dave
-
Morning Bob Welcome to the Forum Very nice just about the best choice of Wind in the Hair motoring We have a friend who brought goggles for his Dog who sits in the middle of the back seat when the top is down. ENJOY Dave

Morning Andrew I have Brembo Discs and pads on my E53 4.6is as when they needed changing the prices were very competitive, my E70 3.0d front discs are OEM rear are Mintex (ch anged due to rusting) with Mintex pads all round My Brother inlaws 540d touring is BMW OEM all round as they were very competitive on price when he was price checking Dave

Morning Dave Welcome to the Forum Try settings in the I-Drive you should be able to choose Full or Split Screen Dave
-
Morning Matthew Welcome tot the Forum You can check one of the online Vin De-Coders which will give you a Build sheet for your car, that is important in case the Original buyer may have ordered something different to standard. Look for a code like S609A which is the Professional Navigation/Radio Once you know what you have then you know what maps to purchase obviously OEM will be best but expensive from a Dealer, there are others out there supplying non OEM maps and codes not tried them myself. Apple car play I am sure you can enable that through the cars settings. Check for you tube help Dave
-
Morning Andrew Welcome to the Forum If not going OEM stick to the well known names do an Internet search as there are always deals to be had Euro Car Parts often have good deals running. After fitting make sure you bed them in to avoid any chance of warping your shiny new brakes Dave
-
Morning Phil Check www.realoem.com it is an online BMW Parts List as used by dealers. Put the last 7 digits of your Vin into the search box it will bring up your Model. Then search the sections for the items you are looking for (both your posts) the small exploded drawings will help with where stuff is located. Dave

Contacting BMW re : part failure
Greydog replied to jenksy0198's topic in The Owners Club General Discussions
Morning Paul BMW UK Customer Services would seem to be the logical place, but what use they will be I don't know. As with several other parts failures BMW tend to retain the damaged part so they are the only ones who have any evidence of number of failures and cause. My guess would be they will quote X thousand units in service with no known issues ? In the USA there are several organisations who will take up the cause so all Manufacturers are faster with Recalls and supported replacement while in Europe we are fobbed off with "No knowledge of this being an issue" some times a "Good Will" payment but not often. Keep at it Dave -
Oil pump causing catastrophic damage to my engine.
Greydog replied to JT12's topic in BMW X1 Series Forum
Morning Jack I am aware that in the early mid 2000's the N47 engines had a number of Timing chain and lift pump issues but by 2010 BMW seem to have overcome them. I have not read of any oil pump failures though. Service history is going to be critical as part of your evidence not just "was it serviced" but was the service on time. A Forensic report on failure causes will not be cheap I fear. Good Luck Dave -
Morning Andrew Have you checked Realoem for the position of fixings ? Dave
-
Morning Kashif So if you touch the screen Off the Icons you should move to the original BMW menu That's how mine works, also if I push and hold the Menu button on the rotary controller Dave

Oil pump causing catastrophic damage to my engine.
Greydog replied to JT12's topic in BMW X1 Series Forum
Morning Jack Welcome to the Forum A little more information, what engine is it Petrol/Diesel 1.6, 1.8, 2.0, 3.0. How many miles has it covered ? How long have you owned the car ? I have read of Timing chain issues and Diesel lift pump issues but yours is a first for me. Any Idea what caused the oil pump to fail? Good luck with your Finance Company Dave -
Morning Kashif Welcome to the Forum Seems you have double posted I have offered an answer in your other post Dave
-
Morning Kashif I have an Erisin system in my E70 which looks very similar, I can use the Menu button to toggle between systems or touch the screen (off the Icons) in either system to switch between them I would think yours should be similar Dave

Morning Phil Welcome to the Forum First when the battery was recharged did you charge using the charge points in the engine bay or at the battery? If you charged at the battery it could cause damage to control units. If it was charged at the charging pints try disconnecting the battery (Neg first) and leave it for 15 mins then re=connect it may help reset everything. From your description it would seem the climate control unit is not doing it's job, start with a check of all fuses, can you adjust temp/ fan speed etc at the climate control unit? Pop the unit out and clean the connections and reconnect if that does nothing then a diagnostic scan will tell what the issue is. Hope this helps Dave

Thanks for the update Paul, never heard of that before and I have fixed a few oil leaks over the years. I have seen Oil filter put back without a sealing O ring, Split oil cooler, Split oil pipes, I have even see a situation where the old oil filter had broken up and the new filter forced in on top of the remains. Good Luck with BMW Dave
