I've heard of other people running this without problems. I know BMW don't recommend it but they wouldn't recommend a lot of things so that's not necessarily anything to go by. I have heard bio diesel can vary in quality though though so you need to be careful as badly made stuff can cause problems.

I would stick with the genuine ones to be honest. A quick glance and it looks like you need 2 parts:
Not 100% sure but may be worth checking out. Looks like there are quite a few bits on ebay and the priced vary quite a lot so worth checking exactly what you need before buying!

It can be done but it does require quite a bit of trim to be removed in order to get at the stereo. That's probably the most tricky bit to be honest.

Both the cars in your photos are E46 models. The one on the left is a facelift and the one on the right is a pre facelift. You can tell by looking at the headlights.
