and am going to in next day or so to just check everything is as they say it is and pick it up. Ive spoken to the owner on the phone and apparently he spoke the garage that done the engine rebuild and although they couldnt remember specifically doing this car they sai all the work that was done was consistent with water damage to the engine i.e. driven through a flooded road or something.

Now I'm a little mechanically naive and had a bit of bad luck with cars over the years, i have upto 2k to spend. \just wondered what you thought of this car and Is this car worth about the right price being a cat D?

any help is appreciated!

It certainly looks straight enough, and the fact that it has MOT and Tax means it never needed VOSA to intervene !!

I have ONE tiny concern - Why is the handbook missing from the owners pack? Also inspect the service book very closely to see that the details match the car ;)

I think the proof will be the test-drive, make sure the engine is stone cold before you start her up !

sorry ive probably mis read what youve written but dont quite see the connection? the engine was supposedly rebuilt because of damage done driving through whatever water which is why it could be claimed on insurance. i asked coz i couldnt understand how you could get engine rebuilt on insurance. im assuming if it just blows up or seizes or whatever you cant?

I can't see how you could claim on insurance for an engine rebuild.

I bet my life on the rebuild was due to swirl flap failure, which is a BMW fault

Welcome Joe, How many owners has the car had, I have to say I would walk away, but your choice, if the engine was rebuilt on insurance due to flood damage, what else was damaged due to water damage, good luck if you do buy the car.

Good call Alan, there will be evidence of water ingress under the carpets, and intermittant electrical faults !
