We have just had our first child and realised my wife's 1 series is not big enough for everything. We went looking at cars yesterday and were keen to look at a Nissan quashqai but the boots are quite small and they don't look that great. They are also 20k.

We then looked at a x5 3.0d on a 55 plate 80k fully loaded for 12k and it seems like a lot of a car for the money.

I know they drink fuel and eat tyres but are they really that bad?

My wife will be doing about 8-10k a year. We would look to keep it for a couple of years then sell it on.

Any advice would be good. I take it the facelift model is 04 on.

Thanks

do it , you only live once, and itl be a nice safe car for the three of you. whats petrol and tyres, have to spend your hard earned one something

no seriously yes they can drink the juice but alot of car for the money, when i get in my dads it puts my 3 series to shame on the kit list

I'd personally go for a 5 series over an X anyday

+1 Gav

Go for the petrol 4.6 or even the 4.8 bus have it done :-)

Disagreement is now being applied

+1 on Gav as well.

530d all the way ;)

Ok..

Pre 2006 X series..

= land Rover crossed with a 5 series..

Go for the full 5 mate, same kit, nicer, faster, more economical car

Not only that, Gav... The X5 is actually a SHITE off-roader lol

It was a big shame that BMW entered that area... Should've concentrated more on what they have !!!

---off topic alert---

BMW are also releasing a 1 Series...FWD!!! WTF??

Thats true Gav... And guess what else?

They are going to discontinue the straight-six !!

Very SAD DAYS ahead... Who the ##### is in control there?

I really don't mind the "tunnel" for the prop-shaft !!

i'd love a short wheel base land rover.would guzzle the gas though

I will say this tho I been shooting today and got a very relaxing 130mph cruse up the motorway with five adults and then drive about two miles into the woods with no problems and with a reading of 21mpg there's not many cars you can do that in

Mine can't get that at the mo, chris !!

Great car, mine does 30mpg average ,handles really well ,is fast safe and doesnt wheel spin in the wet like 5 series does. Go for it they are superb.
