Leak?

Featured Replies

Hi

I posted a while back re an egg smell that we’re getting from our F40 118i.

The pollen filter and cat have now been checked but we’re still getting a slight smell when we’re pulling off from a stop with a hot engine.

We’ve now found a slight leak as per the pic attached. Seems like thin oil. Any thoughts as what it could be please? Just wondering if it could be related to the smell.

Thanks all

Morning Chris

Difficult to identify what that is but it appears to be on the inner wing/wheel arch so hard to see how that would get anywhere hot (Engine/exhaust) I would clean that thoroughly and see if it comes back or where it comes from can be identified. It seems to be coming from the area where the battery is mounted

From your description of smelling it after stopping or idling with a hot engine I would check for any evidence of leaks around the oil cooler, thermostat housing/water pump and Turbo cooling systems

Hope this helps not hinders

Dave
