0027ec code 4e89 code

Hi All

New to this but have a ZFHP32 gearbox and was getting a solenoid mechanical jamming code 4e89. Did a fluid flush and filter change and also replaced mechatronic seals. The error remained and the engaging of gears wasn’t happening and looked to be due to solenoid 1 as kept closing and throwing other solenoids. Before the change of oil could still get 10 mins of driving out of the car before entering limp mode and misbehaving.

I then got the garage to swap the solenoids from solenoid one & 2 to EDS 3 &5 as the colours are the same. Once this was done 4e89 “mechanical jamming solenoid 1 or 2” code went and car drive perfect in lower gears but mechanic said when gave it a foot down treatment in high gears it misbehaved. Topped up the fluid and issue still persists as mechanic thought little low but now right.

4e89 code is gone since solenoid swapped but now have 0027ec and the car goes in limp mode in high gears and mechanic said feels like stuck in high gear and can’t change back to park or reverse. But if turn off car and restart again then fine in the gears. I would think that what was originally solenoid 1 now EDS 3 is the cause given that one is now a high gear solenoid per ZF drawings and controls 5th gear?

What does this 0027ec code mean as on DTC says DME & DME2 “No message, receiver DME, transmitter EGS” - could it be linked to dodgy solenoid or new issue?

EDS 3 & 5 I have ordered new solenoids but taking a while to come so wanted to hear some community views on the topic and obviously update when get to the bottom of this

Thanks in advance everyone!

Morning Dave

Welcome to the Forum

Your 4e89 I have seen when the Clutch pack seals were letting pressure leak by the code was also a so and so to clear then a friend suggested disconnecting the battery (neg first) then touch the 2 terminals together which discharges any static in the system. After that the code cleared. The fact you have identified what appears to be a faulty solenoid that may well fix your shift issue.

Your 27ec code normally is no communication between the EGS and the DME/DDE check carefully the loom internally if it has been pinched or damaged also check the external connector and loom as it would appear the EGS is not getting information from the mechatronic unit to process to the DME/DDE. Have you checked the EGS fuses?

Thank you for the quick response. Yeah clutch seals were cracked but when they were replaced and fluid changed, the 4e89 code still remained. The 4e89 code only changed and went away when the solenoids were swapped and that’s when would get issues in high gear and 27ec code. Will try the solenoid swap and see if fixes shift issue

sorry for being stupid but for 27ec

1) could the code be due to EDS 3 solenoid being faulty or not linked? As just thinking there is no fault code equivalent to 4e89 that covers solenoid 5
2) where does the loom run from and too that should be checked? Somewhere on the valve body as that is the only thing that has been removed and put back in thus far

3) fuse to be checked I presume is just car fuse box one?

thanks

Hi

The 27e code could well be due to no communication with that solenoid, so if the internal solenoid connections are good check the external plug is seated correctly the loom from the plug is not unknown for causing issues if it is not seated correctly. The EGS fuse is in the Fuse box. But as the car has been driven with only high gear issue It would point more towards the solenoid or its connection.

At this point I am assuming your gearbox is the GA6HP26Z so IIRC correctly you should have 3 yellow 3 blue and one black solenoid, depending on the version you have you may also have a Park lock solenoid

I will have to dig out the ZF catalogue to check

Thanks Dave. It’s actually ZFHP32. Yep got a park solenoid too. Pic attached

thanks

Hi Pablo

I did thank you. Basically I left the used solenoid on and drove 30/40 miles and it settled in perfectly. No issues since.

I think these solenoids (used or new) need a bit of running in time. First time in my life I’ve been that patient and it’s saved me a couple of thousand!

thanks
