I have heard of this algae problem with BMW washer fluid, and using the non BMW fluid.  I dont know why this is a problem as I have never experienced any such problems  in my LONG car owning experience and using whatever screen wash came to hand.  It could just be the long period of being stationary is the problem.  I have heard of various cheap fixes, check them out via google.

Morning Philip

£350 to clean the filters on the washer pump 😅 !!!!!!! Extra piece of advice find another BMW Dealer or bring it round I will do it for half that 😂

Your washer reservoir has 2 pumps 1. Front screen/ Rear screen 2. Headlamp washer system (if fitted). Each pump has a small fine mesh filter on it to stop debris blocking the jets it is these that clog. BMW screen wash has a fungicide included some others don't so a jelly like substance forms clogging the filter.

The pumps are push fit into a rubber grommet the filter is a push fit on the end of the pump. I don't know how accessible the pumps are but even on my wife's Subaru outback (yes same issue) where the reservoir is under the front wing behind the splash guard it is less than an hours work to remove it clean it and put it back. I just need a bucket under the reservoir as when the pump is pulled out all the contents empty out. Wash the filters in clean water or buy new if you wish, replace I always put a smear of silicone around the pump seal to make sure (a) it goes back easily (b) it seal with out leaks. My X5 the washer system is in the engine bay and easy to get at so the same operation can be completed in 30 mins or less.

If you are even mildly handy with a screw driver I would do it yourself

Dave

Hi Phil

Glad to hear you got it sorted but I would strongly recommend you find a local BMW Specialist rather than a main dealer for future work. Their labour rates are usually far lower.

Check out any reviews available.

A basic search on Google comes up with the following:-
