  2. Morning Christine Welcome to the Forum I would be concerned about your garage as the only time I have seen that code was on an X5 with an incorrectly fitted battery (IBS not connected)? First I would point out that I am not a garage just an old engineer with an insatiable need to know 😅 I also have a fully up to-date BMW Diagnostic program and have worked on my own X5's since 2002. Google the register of BMW Specialists you should find one close by I would start with the battery, get the Voltage checked at the Charging points under the bonnet. Engine off it should show 12.5v minimum with the engine running 14.5v min. Also check the battery connections in the boot make sure the IBS (small lead) is connected Hope this helps Dave
  3. Morning Chris Welcome to the Forum Used to hear this a lot when catalyser's were bedding in but haven't heard it for a while. Are most of your journeys short duration ? Maybe a couple of longer runs will get the Cat up to temperature and clear it Dave

  5. Hi, I'm new to the site and my 2011 X5 40d E70 is my first BMW (possible my last). The transmission light comes on. I've had it in the garage and the fault code is 4E9B. The garage have advised that the car needs to go to a gearbox specialist. Any advice would be greatly appreciated ☺️

  7. Thanks. Pollen filter was changed in a service 3 months ago.

Hi. If it’s not bad.. check the pollen filter or air con. If it’s bad, check the cat.

  10. Hi guys Looking for some advice please. We have a 2019 118i (front drive) with 16k on the clock. All servicing is up to date. We’re getting a very slight egg like smell through the air vents when the engine is hot. It happens after we’ve slowed down or stopped, eg at lights and are then pulling off. It clears quickly and is fine when driving at normal speed. We had a transmission oil service recently and thought it may be that some old oil had spilt but that’s been checked and all is fine. We’ve also had a visual inspection of the exhaust and were told it looks like new but they couldn’t see the cat as it’s covered by the manifold. But surely a cat shouldn’t fail at 6 years / 16000 miles? Has anyone experienced anything similar? The smell is minor and the dealer can’t pick it up, but it’s definitely there, both my wife and I can smell it (and it’s not us!!). Any thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks all.

  21. Hello, I have a BMW F20 118d with the B48 engine. The problem is that it’s leaking oil from this area. I’ve done a lot of research trying to find where the leak is coming from, but I haven’t been able to identify the source. Has anyone experienced a similar oil leak on the front passenger side?

  23. I suspect (and hope) that I will be more of a reader than a writer in this forum because I have just bought my first BMW and know very little about anything BMW. My boot lid used to fly off its hinges but not now, thanks to a guy on Youtube showing me how to fit replacements. I've invested in a hardcopy Handbook but that's almost a difficult to navigate as the iDrive! When I have some time to spare, I can be found under the bonnet trying various ways to dig out the rotting leaves that have settled over years in the cavities way down beneath the bonnet springs. I have been a reactive DIY repairer of various cars, over many years and in an odd way, I enjoy it. Cheers for now.

I didn’t know about the difference with the wheels. Learn something new everyday! More than likely, I will sell the e46 parts, as there is about 6k worth, and everything except the bilstein b12 pro suspension and Brembo discs and pads, everything is genuine bmw with all the receipts from main dealer. As for the x6, the next job is front wheel bearings, and track rod ends, then the control arm bushes and top wishbone bushes and ball joints. They should be done in the next few weeks, then I’ll do the rear ones.

  27. Hi Sam Not sure what Diagnostic you used as I can't find that code ( use ISTA/INPA BMW specific) the only 480 codes I have seen are DPF driven so really odd. As for the ABS you can remove the control unit from the pump (4 Torx Bolts) without removing/disturbing the Hydraulics then send it to someone like ECU Testing who repair them. Before doing that it's worth checking the loom for damage Hope this helps Dave
  28. Thank you! Glad to be here. No by always on I mean even with the ignition off and doors locked. There are no leaks and the reservoir is full of brake fluid. it's the strangest thing. My friend has a diagnostic tool and he brought it in just now. There was an error code which makes no sense to me. The code was: 48071C-Permanent-DSC unit: internal, pump, supply voltage But as you can see it is running no idea what it means by supply voltage :(
  29. Sorry….. welcome Sam! How rude of me. The abs is always on? Have you checked for leaks in the pipes? When you say it’s always on, do you mean the pump or the warning light? Cheers Stu
  30. Thank you for answering! Yeah and the ABS is always on. The only way to stop it is to remove the battery lead! it already drained my battery once!
  31. That noise usually relates to a fan come off its bearing or something jammed under the fins.
  32. Hi all, I got my 2023 320D BMW G21 and all it was ok. but now its making this crazy noise out of the ABS pump. I have no idea whats going on here... Has anyone seen this? Cheers IMG_2551 2.MOV

  34. Morning Daniel Welcome to the Forum My first thought is get a Diagnostic scan done, second thought is early 2000's BMW's many suffered a lurch in the transmission when stopping. When was the transmission serviced last ? I haven't heard of people suffering this from the lurch for years Dave
  35. Hi all, Would like to know if this is normal for x4. I have a 2016 X4 2.0 Petrol. I usually have cool air con runs on low while driving. Ive noticed while stopped at the traffic lights the car usually does a quick 1 sec shake/nudge, its very noticeable like everyone sits in the car can feel it. Wonder if this is normal for BMW or X4 in general or if anyone knows what it might be? Please do share your thoughts, thanks and advance. Daniel

  37. New seat adjuster in and a new alternator fitted…. 2 hours of Saturday unavailable for shopping…. Great stuff! Productive day… now I can get in the car and charging is happening! Although the car is reading 11.0 when running… took it for a blat and it got up to 14.1 so I’ll give it a good charge today and hopefully it keeps the battery charged. @Greydog thank you for your knowledge as always.
  38. Cheers Dave, it appeared to have frayed on the outside. I have ordered a new tensioner and will fit. I think it might be something to do with the pulley sticking. In hindsight I should have done the lot at the time I replaced the belt. I think I was too miffed that the garage didn’t notice it on a major service! thanks for your help
