Rear tyres
So, I opted for Michelin PS4’s for the rear. I had them on a Puma ST and they were great! Current Bridgestone turanza S001 on the front can wash out a little when cold/wet, hence my reasoning for not getting the same for the rear. I swapped rear tyres side to side last week and found a small patch of tyre missing due to delamination (probably due to playing on wet roundabouts 🤫😉) That’ll explain the slight vibration at speed! Also getting the wheel alignment done later to. Hoping it’ll be a noticeable difference!

Lights warning on dash but everything works
Morning Martin Welcome to the Forum My bet is Battery dying check the voltage at the charge points under the bonnet, anything below 12.5v with the engine off would indicate a discharged or dying battery. Good Luck Dave

1st BMW (2012 X5 40d)- Need help
Hi Rhys If the cable has a Ball on the end it is OEM if it has a Loop it is probably an aftermarket replacement not that that's a problem just indicates it has been changed before. I have seen one where the EPB unit had been replaced 3 times by the owner but he hadn't checked shoe wear and adjusted them ?? I needed a Claw hammer to get enough leverage to release the jammed cable. When I took the unit off the car I took it apart and was actually able to release it internally and save the unit (he has it as a spare now) Like most things on a car if it's looked after it will last a long long time Dave

New User Looking For Advice
Morning Craig Welcome to the Forum Stu is on the right track but when you push the button on the end of the stalk and the green light is on that is the rain sensor enabled, wiper should then operate when the sensor is obscured by water on the screen, just either spray water or sprinkle some on the screen. A single click down intermittent two clicks up for full operation and high speed a push towards the dash is intermittent rear wash wipe push towards the dash and click should give full rear wiper operation Dave

New User Looking For Advice
Hi Craig and welcome My first thought is the rain sensor. It is on the windscreen behind the rear view mirror housing. Disconnect that and see what happens, if your wipers start working intermittently, there’s your issue!

Hi everybody I'm Craig with a e60 520d 2009. looking for some advice as to why my wipers dont work as they should. I press the stalk in for intermittent use and the light comes on the stalk, the wipers work for one wipe then they stop. I can adjust the setting for sensitivity which activates the wiper one time again then nothing green light still on and no other movement of the blades. all other wiper functions work as the should. any help or advice would be appreciated. Thank you

1st BMW (2012 X5 40d)- Need help
Hi Dave, Yes I think you may well be right there. I've found the cable, and it appears to do nothing......some info suggestion it might need some force, hence the red tool (which of course I don't have either), but I've given it everything and nothing happens, so I suspect that may have been used in the past too. If I can get it back home, then I'm comfortable doing pads/discs etc.....If she needs some TLC to get her healthy for another 50K that would be good, but I can't afford to spend 1000s on her.

Hi Left side of the boot rear cubby there is a manual release for the Parking Brake, if you haven't found it. I have seen one where the shoes were badly worn and it allows the Parking Brake mechanism to over wind and jam (the screech) then a chunk of shoe material had detached, I released the PB then reversed the car which freed the brake. New shoes and a reset of the PB all good. It sounds like yours may have had a poor maintenance back ground Dave

1st BMW (2012 X5 40d)- Need help
OK, I have a bit of an update..... I managed to get hold of a replacement front diff from Silverlake.....came next day, and looks fairly healthy, 6 month warranty. However, the very next day, as I was getting kids in the car for breakfast club, there was an almighty screech from the rear left as I shut the door. Get in the car, "Parking Brake Failed" error message, and the wheel is firmly locked..... Spoke to the garage I was going to take it to for the diff replacement, who are busy for over a week, stating it's a fairly common but expensive fault. I've attempted to free the wheel up, using all the methods that Google/Chat have suggested, to the point where I simply cannot get the brake disc off, and I didn't want to cause further problems where the car is. So, I am investigating recovery, but where should I go? A ) Recover to garage and wait until they can look at both problems B ) Recover to home, see if I can get the disc off or get a mobile mechanic to assist C ) Recover to home, see who can look at it soonist, and then re-recover to there Any other ideas and/or suggestions appreciated, Many thanks in advance

Yes, mostly local trips of 10-15 miles but the car has actually done a 100 mile motorway trip recently.

2011 X5 Transmission Light
Hi Christine BMW's are well known for being sensitive to Battery voltage I have seen quite a few with either a parasitic discharge or discharged battery. The discharged battery will still start the car but diverts all energy to the start triggering all sorts of spurious warnings. For your information if the battery is charged on the car it should only be charged from the charge points under the bonnet. At the battery your car has an IBS lead (Intelligent Battery System) which lets the cars system know if it is charging or not. I have seen a few BMW's that have batteries changed and the lead has not been reconnected Transmissions are pretty robust but just like the Engine do need servicing Hope you get it sorted Dave

2011 X5 Transmission Light
Thank you for replying Dave. I have watched a few YouTube clips and Googled everything I can. The battery is something that came up a few times. I spoke to the garage about this and it is going in on Tuesday so they can check the battery before I start spending stupid money. I will let you know how I get on ☺️

2011 X5 Transmission Light
Morning Christine Welcome to the Forum I would be concerned about your garage as the only time I have seen that code was on an X5 with an incorrectly fitted battery (IBS not connected)? First I would point out that I am not a garage just an old engineer with an insatiable need to know 😅 I also have a fully up to-date BMW Diagnostic program and have worked on my own X5's since 2002. Google the register of BMW Specialists you should find one close by I would start with the battery, get the Voltage checked at the Charging points under the bonnet. Engine off it should show 12.5v minimum with the engine running 14.5v min. Also check the battery connections in the boot make sure the IBS (small lead) is connected Hope this helps Dave

Morning Chris Welcome to the Forum Used to hear this a lot when catalyser's were bedding in but haven't heard it for a while. Are most of your journeys short duration ? Maybe a couple of longer runs will get the Cat up to temperature and clear it Dave

2011 X5 Transmission Light
Hi, I'm new to the site and my 2011 X5 40d E70 is my first BMW (possible my last). The transmission light comes on. I've had it in the garage and the fault code is 4E9B. The garage have advised that the car needs to go to a gearbox specialist. Any advice would be greatly appreciated ☺️
