Morning Andy Welcome to the Forum Apart from rust which is the killer of most Classic cars and expensive to repair properly so check very carefully The Michelin TRX Wheel and tyre sets can be swapped for 16" or 18" which would give a much wider range of reasonably priced tyres. From what I have read you need to keep to an offset around ET20 and Tyre width of 235 to fit under the wheel arches If you can find OEM alloys they won't be cheap but you should find Replica Alpina style alloys Good Hunting Dave

I think the statement "Sport Mode" and perhaps an excitable right foot 🤣 may be the restriction, but then who buys a sports car to drive like Miss Daisies Chauffeur A few years ago when I had the AMG's a neighbour asked "How many MPG" one of my sons piped up " if it's not in single figures your driving like a girl" 🤣🤣 My X5 E53 4.6is averages 19mpg bumbling around town 24/25mpg on a motorway My X5 E70 30d 26/27 bumbling around town high 30's on a run. My wife's Perrin engined Subaru Outback with 400whp averages 15mpg but is insane fun if you stand on it's tail Keep it for high days holidays and sunny days, just don't go out without your wallet 😅 Dave

Hi Mike The android conversion is just the Screen so the CCC I-drive and it's functions are untouched, the new screen is an Android system in it's own right, in effect giving you two functioning systems all still controlled from the I-drive controller 😁 no programming no messing Win Win As for the BMW in car phone in the armrest what type is it ? I may have an original BMW Motorola flip phone in the garage might take a bit of searching if that's what yours was you are welcome to it for the postage. Unless your close to West Sussex that is Dave Some things you may find useful (1) www.realoem.com it is an online BMW Parts List put the last 7 digits of your Vin into the search box it will bring up your model Then search the sections for what you need. Having the correct part number will help when buying spares also the small exploded drawings will help understand how and where stuff fits. (2) www.pelicanparts.com is an American site check their BMW DIY Articles some great "How To's" with pictures apart from the steering wheel in the wrong place everything else is the same. Finally if you want to be able to run diagnostics on your car BMW 1.4.0 is a great program that will give you Dealer Level access 👍

Oh fishooks It may be quicker and simpler to fit one of the Android headunit conversions there are many available now and they are really good (got one in my E70) cost around £300 and you could either keep the old headunit so if you sell it goes with the car or sell it and recoup some cost. Dave

Hi Mike Just use Google or Ebay there are several conversions available that really are plug and play I have fitted 2 to 5 series cars like yours and a couple into X5 E70's Just the screen is changed it takes a couple of hours with tea and biscuit breaks 😁 Your car has the CCC I-drive system so should be around £300 but you will get Bluetooth, a Sat Nav that's easier to upgrade plus a heap of other Apps that (if your like me) you will never use. Plus it will retain all the CCC functions and let you switch between them. I wouldn't hesitate Dave

Morning Stuart Life isn't that kind I am afraid, as far as I am aware the injectors need to be removed (label them as they are coded to that position in the engine) normally twisting them back and forwards while gently pulling up does the trick. Check youtube for video help. From memory the Cam cover gasket set comes with new injector seals as well. From your pictures everything looks clean so either you have done a good job of cleaning as you go, or the engine is in pretty good nick. Dave

With my Motorola G22 I needed to set it up initially with a wired connection through the Aux port, once set up it just connects via bluetooth No additional bits needed Dave

Morning Stuart There are seals on the injectors that really do get hard with age penetrating fluid works over time. Lots of twisting with the right spanner generally works. Injectors and Glow plugs are one of those lobs that you either think "what's the fuss" or "I wish I hadn't started this" Patience is the key, question why are you taking them out ? Morning Gaynor Welcome to the Forum First check the Brake Discs are seated correctly and not warped. Assuming the Brake Discs are OK and Callipers are not sticking then the front suspension Brake reaction arm(Tension strut) is the likely culprit Depending on driving style the large bushes tend to last about 80k to maybe 100k in my experience. Symptoms tend to start as a judder when slowing from speed Good Luck Dave

Morning Jonathan Welcome to the Forum First place I would look is in the I drive to make sure all the settings are as they were, check the settings carefully. Also double check the fuses I had a problem with a blown fuse for the air suspension on my E53 X5 I changed the fuse still no go I cleaned the contacts and tried again nothing. Went to the BMW Dealer brought a fuse set plugged it in and hey presto all working again. To this day I dont know why all the other fuses were good and I have used them else where? Mystery The next will be a diagnostic scan which should throw some light on what the issue is Rave

Hi Nkanyiso Welcome to the Forum There is a Register of Independent BMW Specialist check the lists you should find help there I would start with basics check all vacuum lines and the inlet for any air leaks, then the Vanos solenoids. Then check carefully the loom that feeds the coil packs for any signs of rubbing and chaffing. Repeat with the loom for the injectors, a misfire can be fuel or spark related If that is beyond you then check out the specialists register Good Luck Dave

Hi Joe Take a look at www.realoem.com if memory serves there is a deflection pulley and a tension pulley. The deflection pulley I think is plastic so could well be your culprit Try a squirt of WD40 on the centre of each pulley (do it 1 at a time) if it stops the noise you know which it is Dave

Morning Joe When was the car last serviced ? Did they change drive belts ? At higher mileages I would change change Belts and Tensioners, plus while your in there with no belt in the way check the alternator water pump and aircon pump pulleys Certainly sounds like a pulley Good Luck Dave

All I can offer Andy is really search the Market. Loyalty is gone and I have to do it each year as they hike the premium. I have the advantage of Age on my side and live in a Low Crime area I insure 3 cars 2 X5's and a Subaru Outback wit a 400+hp engine upgrade the Subaru is the cheapest to insure ?? Good Hunting Dave

Good Morning Renine You can fit Non Run flat tyres to run flat rims just make sure they are the best you can afford as the tyre is what stops starts and steers you. If your car is an AWD X1 change all 4 tyres together to avoid risk of Drive train or Transfer Case damage. A good tyre centre will advise, but take care, many will suck their teeth and tell you only BMW approved tyres are safe which is of course untrue. Where BMW (and other manufacturers) Fit staggered wheels (wider rear) matching front and rear tyre rolling radius is vital to avoid damage to the drive train. BMW (and others) brokered deals with tyre manufacturers to ensure staggered tyre sets were guaranteed within a tolerance to protect the transmission. Many other tyre producers realised and of course produce tyres that are suitable. If your car is S drive it will be Front wheel drive and not affected by the complication of staggered tyres, if your car is Xdrive (AWD) and the wheels are same size front and rear the risk is greatly reduced particularly where all 4 tyres are changed together. Both my X5 cars have staggered wheel sets I have no spare wheels just an electric tyre pump and a can of tyre sealant. I am happy to say that even with the state of our roads in the last 10 years I haven't suffered a puncture (stupid thing to boast) As for an actual spare check the auction sites and there is a list of BMW specialist dismantlers that may help Good luck Dave

Morning Dezron Welcome to the Forum Two questions first (1) how many miles has the car covered ? (2) Has the transmission ever been serviced ? As a starting point your Transmission is, or should be a ZF GA6HP19Z which should be serviced at 80k to 100k km dependant on climate/use. The light indicates a fault, the transmission is in limp mode, which could be caused by anything from a failed solenoid, low fluid levels (any sign of leaks) or just plain dirty fluid and clogged filter. Find a ZF transmission specialist they will be able to run a diagnostic on the box and tell you what it is. Everyone services the engine religiously but the gearbox is all to often ignored, yet it can cost easily as much as an engine to fix, some times more !! Good Luck Dave

morning Steve I thought I had answered this but can't any see it anywhere !! Must be getting old 😅 If the issue is surfacing on turning I would check the engine bay very carefully for chaffed wires in the engine looms to the Coil Packs and Injectors. Also check the engine mounts and earth straps Good Luck Dave
