Sorry if this doesn’t help, but my convertible pug did this… It was a yaw sensor which ran through the abs sensor. Abs module was replaced and the abs light fixed, but asc sporadically appeared. Not sure if bmw have yaw sensors?

If it is stuck shut, then push out the left hand grille and get a hooked tool to pull sharply on the cable or push the release mechanism away. That’s how I managed to open the e53 x5.

Hello, I agree… open the bonnet and get someone to pull the release lever. Both release mechanisms should move in unison. They are able to be moved manually if they are free. Give it a good oiling and get it moving. If it is free to move by hand, but doesn’t move with the cable, check the cable hasn’t stretched or become disconnected at the other mechanism.

Hi Dave, welcome. When my x5 cable broke, I had a bit of a mare as some cables were lhd specific. The bonnet release lever was only listed by bmw as a lhd part number. Go to the local dealership and ask the parts man for the rhs specific one as the codes can be one digit out. I used to own a bike shop and we used to sell a lot of tandem brake cables with solderless nipples to the Vespa lads as throttle cables. It’s worth asking the local bike shop. Gear cables or pear ended brake cables fit in the black cable joint on mine.

Hello, most aftermarket head units have reversing camera inputs, sadly not Bluetooth! The input is usually a yellow phone jack plug and the signal is wired from the reverse light to usually a pink wire. , wireless ones are garbage! Get a AHD camera if you can

Sorry, I have had time to sit down. The camshaft sensor can fail and cause sporadic issues. There is a pulley on the front of the engine which can split and cause the forward/ backward motion and misread the sensor. Check this by pulling the pulleys toward the radiator / front of car. They should not move!

Bit of a long shot, but has the alternator failed? My x5 did and it did exactly the same, even with a jump pack and a battery charger, it wouldn’t fire or crank at communicate as the battery was fully fully flat. The warning lights came on, then quickly engine lost power. And the car stopped. Surely if the timing chain snapped it would have made a !Removed! big noise before stopping quickly, not coasting as the engine would still be engaged to the gearbox?

Tuve una falla en el sensor de posición del árbol de levas de un E36. Esto provoca que el motor funcione de forma irregular al ralentí y se apague. También cambié la cadena de distribución y el sensor del cigüeñal estaba bien, pero la polea estaba desgastada y se movía hacia adelante y hacia atrás, alejándose del sensor, lo que causó el problema. Revisa si hay movimiento en la polea inferior.
