E90 poor handling

Featured Replies

Hi all got a 2009 e90 330d recently developed clunking noise when accelerating and going over small bumps in the road, I’ve checked everything I can think of and still got figure out what it is. Also the handling of the car is awful it feels like the rear end is floating on top of the subframe when Corning or changing lanes on the motorway. It’s also snaky when accelerating or braking. Has anyone ever experienced this? Thanks

Morning Callum

Welcome to the Forum

As your car is 2009 vintage bushes and bearings in the suspension will be either worn out or very close to it

What exactly have you checked ? As your description seems to point to the rear end I would start there. (1) Subframe mounting bushes any sign of cracking or wear change them (Note there are 2 sizes Front and rear). (2) Diff Mounting Bush same applies (3) Check Springs and their mounts and shock absorbers (4) Next Spherical Bush and all control arms rear anti roll bar mounts. (5) Wheel Bearings and drive shafts

If you have a reasonable tool kit and access to the internet there are many "How Too" videos online and most jobs are a straight forward DIY proposition

Good Luck hope this helps

Dave
