Recently purchased 320d Luxury - ex demo with low mileage. As I understand it engine should cut out when stationery - lights etc. Been to dealer once and they want to have it for a whole day for investigation. Any ideas what could be wrong? Also, if it works is it a good thing or will it become a pain?

Any views welcome.

Has to be an electrical/sensor fault !

I had a merc van last year with this start stop tec.

It has to be switched on in the on board computer.

It wasn't any trouble driving with it, but with it on, surprisingly, I used more fuel?

I admire Stop&Start technology but... Meh I'm to old skool :D can't be arsed with it. I would turn it off personally. I want power instantly when I want it

Most likely as Dabs says, sensor probs. Doesn't appear to be detecting the clutch drop

Many thanks for your comments guys! I think I will have it fixed under warranty and then use the option to switch if it becomes a pain in the nether regions.

Some people love it some people dislike it

I sometimes remind myself of an old man. I'm 23 years old but do sometimes look at things like planes and say in my head "Jet engine? You what? V12!"

Just depends what kinda person you are really

I dont see the point TBH... When the engine re-fires it uses more anyway by expelling unburned fuel while the starter is spinning etc

My thoughts exactly

Have you read the hand book with regards to start stop?

It will only work when:

The car is up to operating temp,

All occupants have their seat belts on

The aircon is not on

The ambient outside temperature is above 5* iirc

The clutch pedal isn't depressed

Daz, as soon as you depress the clutch the engine begins to start and by the time you've selected gear it's running so effectively you have power as soon as you hit the loud pedal

Lol ... well that's sorted then ..... cus on my journey home the clutch is more engaged than I've ever been in my life !!!!!!!!!!!! pmsl ..... sorry just couldn't resist ...

My Ex has a Fiat 500 with stop start

Stop Start disagrees with my clutching mate, believe me
