guys and guru's.i have a tow bar on my 5 series E60 Touring but no electrics have been fitted by the previous owner. on a lot of newer cars there is a straight plug in module factory fitted to take the trailer wires. can anyone let me know if this is the case for mine of is there a trick to wiring these up or straight forward break into the loom as i have done many times before on older cars?? any help appreciated. thanks in advance.

No way of breaking into the loom mate unless you really know your poo.

Best off buying a box mate

tow hitch electrics sorted, towbar express, local mobile fitting service will fit a BMW 7 pins trailer socket all wired in for £85.00 at my house.deal done.

There is a plug near the offside lamps lol... That'll be why yer towbar fitting was that cheap ;)

Just be aware that the car should be recoded for towbar electrics. Otherwise your PDC (parking sensors) will go mental when in reverse and towing. Also because the car runs on a CAN bus system you may get a problem in the Light control module if you just chop the wires, also it can cause a problem with the climate. All of these I have seen after towbars fitted with no recoding. Just beware. If you have problems you don't have to go to BMW. Just find an Indy with Autologic.

i researched the fitting kit they will use and it comes with a CAN BUS type of smart box that dissables the parking sensors when connected to a trailer and other stuff i guess. it is the kit recommended by BMW so should be ok.
