Hi,, my Names Lucy And I Would Love To Speak To People With Z3 As I Would Love To Get One This Year, Anyone Out There :) they look such an exciting car. :)

Welcome to the community Lucy,

We do indeed a few Z3 dwellers 'mongst us and yes, they are quite exciting little motors (aslong as you get a 6 Cylinder, NOT a 4)

Hi Lucy,

I am one of the above mentioned Z3'ers.

What would you like to know??

Daz H above is right in part, 6 cyl's are more powerful, but i have quite a bit of fun in my M44 1.9 including track days as well as just

wombling around when the sun is out, so it depends what you want to do with it?

I have done quite a bit to mine to make it more fun, but as with most things the sky is the limit when you are fiddling.

Regards,

Rhys

Hi Lucy,

I found my 1.9 a little soft when giving it beans. It leans a little more than i thought it would. To give an idea, i drive a 320d Msport 57' plate as my works car, and i find the 320 has a firmer suspension than the Z3 which surprised me as i thought the sports car would be harder. This is why i have upgraded to a full koni sports adjustable shock absorbers front and back with H&R springs, i can now set how hard a ride i want it to be.

It is a fun car, and great without doing much to it. I wouldnt say that it needed anything done in particular, it was just my personal preferences as i do some track days in the car too so wanted to make sure it was up to it.

I also put Brembo max discs and sport pads on the front and M-Tech grooved discs and sport pads on the back. I found this and changing to Dot 5.1 brake fluid made a big difference to making the car stop. I have done a full 20 mins session on a track and not had the brakes fade at all, so seems to be doing its job.

Recently i have put a K&N 57i induction kit and a Longlife cat back exhaust on the car, and this has given a better noise on acceleration as well as a few extra bhp.

As for insurance, i have declared all the mods to the car and pay around £800 a year (im 26, no points etc) I could probably get this lower by going to a specialist broker, but i swapped from one car to another mid way through a policy, so just stayed with it for this year. I would expect your 2.8 to be a little more depending on your age, points, crashes etc.

Summing up, as with most BMW's mine has to date been bomb proof, and i cant fault anything on it. Any changes have been because i wanted to, not because i had to.

Servicing is a little dearer depending where you go, and tyres (225/50/16 on mine) are about £60 each ( i use Nankang NS2 sports)

I was lucky and found a T reg 99' car with only 44k on the clock (older guy had owned it) and really didnt pay a huge amount for it. There are bargains out there, but as with all second hand cars, just buy the best you can sensibly afford with a good history and as low miles as you can.

Anything i haven't covered, give me a shout.

Rhys
