So since I bought the car I have two lines of superglue solid on my boot lid. I'm assuming someone's attempted to glue the number plate on and it's run down the paint work. Any ideas on how to get rid of it?

I'll be interested in this thread as the Mrs compact has got a few superglue runs on the passenger door from when the previous owner tried to delock the door and !Removed! it up and glued the handle plate back on....I have since done it properly but the glue is still there :(

Mine looks naaaaaasty Dave and was kinda hoping someone could help before Pod!

Fingers crossed we get an answer then :)

Maybe its time I did a Google search tomorrow :)

No solvent will be able to remove the glue without tarnishing the paint work.

What your going to need to do is VERY carefully remove as much of the hardened glue yourself maybe using a VERY fine wet and dry sand paper.

Once your done doing that, it's going to look worse then when you started so your going to need to "Cut" the paint work with a good cutting compound (Avoid T-Cut). I would advise a 3M product like so:

To get an even cut, use an angle grinder with a "mop" on the end.

That should do it. Good as new

I've had a little look and apparently acetone is worth a go.. Being female I have plenty of that so might try :)

Thats a bit of a !Removed! mission :(

Nahhhh not at all buddy!

See it as.... De-badging :) Same method, different reason

Thanks Darren :) But I agree with Dave.. Mission :(

Dont for FS use acetone

You need to polish it off with cutting paste.

Ill have a go at it at the Pod.

As standard Charl, remind me to bring my kit mate

Typical fish brain Gav! Thanks :)

The cutting compound should take you no more then 20 mins. You have spent more then 20 mins on this thread which was posted to find a solution to the problem. Im confuggled...

But I don't own any of the things you suggested Daz. I was looking for a quick solution really, don't want to go out and buy an angle grinder for a bit of superglue :(

Don't NEED one :) If I can get to Pod, I'll do it

Sound like a plan :) def have to get the birds compact there now,bet her glue problem is worse than yours Char, lol,I'll whack a pic up of it tomorrow :)

Problem with superglue is not only does it stick like sh*t on a blanket, often it will look worse due to misc finger prints and bits of crap stuck to it. It's a right pain.

When I was in school, two of my class mates, a boy and a girl, applied an entire sachet of super glue to their hands then held hands. For the entire day, they were forced to stay together until it wore off..
