hi everyone, finally picking up my 318i 2day, so im pretty excited and looking forward to it!! but just a question, instead of buying a ipod cable, i was just going to put a jvc headunit instead, but is it possible to fit a single din headunit easier enough and will i still have use of my cd changer??

any advice would be great!!

thanks

Yes a single DIN is easy enough to install, just make sure you get a BMW to universal ISO cable, unfortunatly you wont have use of the BMW CD changer !!

thnx for the advice everyone. also would i have to buy a different surround to go around the headunit?? im buying the headunit from a mate that fitted in his old m3 so will the wiring be the same?

If he lets you have the BMW to universal ISO (power leads) itll just be plug an play. And if your car has already got a single DIN stereo in it it should just be a simple swap :)

How does the BMW Headunit come out then? Also what is the best place to get the wiring for the steering controls to work??

Without seeing it I cant help, sorry. You can get all the cables you need from a decent ICE company, failing that ebay, last resort Halfrauds !!

How does the BMW Headunit come out then?

Pop the trim off using something thin starting at the far left by the heater vent, it just clips in. Once you have all the trim off you'll the screws holding the radio, 2 of them. Can't help on cables though, sorry!

hi and welcome , when i fitted mine just used the bmw universal plug and had full use of the steering controls still but no you wont be able to use the cd changer
