Has anyone had any trouble with their engine pinking under hard acceleration? The car has been in for a diagnostic, all OK. Engine breather pipes changed, problem still persists. Has anyone a similar problem and know of a possible cure?

How you mean pinking dude?

Welcome to the club too.

Knock senors? Excessive smoke? Its uncommon for a injection engine to pink

  • 1 year later...

I have the same problem, I have a 2002 bmw 330d auto that is lumpy when cold and making a pinking noise when accelerating it is also a lot harder on the diesel than it was before, there's no fault codes showing up and the guy working on it at the minute is baffled. A few weeks ago it put on the dde light and went into limp mode, but the guy that has it at the minute is going to put some injected cleaner in it and see what happens.

welcome to the forum

if its engine pinking then its something to do with your spark ignition or knock sensor.

try a battery reset then drive & if the fault appears again try another diagnostic perhaps from a different machine.

Justin, as diesel engines wont pink but can have a similar noise like pinking in your case, its normally the injectors dirty & getting clogged. there are other things that can cause this noise but the first is most common.

hope the cleaner helps though - ;)

Cheers for the advice m8, the cars in at the minute a guys having a look at it and he's taking the swirl flaps out of it , I won,t have it back to next week fingers crossed
