Hi guys, looking for a bit of buying advice really and a few questions. Ive just sold my 2007 Focus ST3 and looking to buy a 320 or 325 M sport coupe in the 07/08 shape, petrol or diesel. Im 23 and decided its time to go for something cheaper to insure and run fuel wise to save quicker to buy my own place. My Focus was only averaging at 17mpg and £1400 a year to insure, the BMW is quoted to be around £530 fully comp for the year so massive saving there. Im looking to spend between 10 and 11k on the new car.

What are your thoughts on the 320 and 325, speed, acceleration, sound? Coming from the focus which was modified and running at 300bhp, id still like something with a bit of poke and a nice sound. I prefer a manual car but ive heard that the gearbox on the manual are fairly poor and to stick to the autos?

And last thing in my mind with buying one is mileage, are these cars still reliable with around the 100,000 miles mark. Theres alot more out there to choose from if I increase the mileage in my searches.

Any info and advice would be appreciated

Welcome aboard, Kane... For the power you're looking for and prefering the 3series, I would recommend a 3 ltr straight-six or better still, the V8 4ltr Twin turbo !!

You won't get 300bhp out of the 2.5ltr unless mod it very hard and bolt a turbo on !!

As for insurance, as you are 23 my advice is to go with a 320d !!!

      Missing radio stations and or frequencies in my 2008 635d !!

      Hi to you all out there - again. I thought that I had got a grip of the basics with my 'New to me' 635d and the workings of the radio.I have managed to assign a couple of desired stations into the numbered buttons but I cannot find at least of all Classic Radio -Radio 3 - Radio 4 - Radio Lancashire - Radio Manchester and a couple of others that are just not showing in the selection panel ! Whilst I am at it can some kind sole tell me how to turn on just the ignition so that adjustments can be made without running the engine. A really really lovely car but why oh why are they so complex ? To cap it all this morning whilst on-route to my tyre dealer at a steady 50mph there was a rather loud alarm sounded and an image of a tyre burst forward in the display - there was no deflation of loss of the smallest amount of air in one of the front 'Run-flats' ! I was slowing down for a traffic light controlled island on the M58 just outside of Pemberton,Wigan.

      Good morning Dave. Thanks for your prompt reply. I forgot to mention that indeed my mechanic has replaced the old transmission fluid pan with a new one that has the filter incorporated but never changed the fluid. Is that could be the problem??. I took my car to another transmission specialist and he made a thorough diagnosis and the result is NO codes of transmission errors.

      Morning Mobeen Even with BMW's early i-bus system components that communicate with each other or allowed pass through signals to reach others could be swapped. However they didn't always operate as they should or allow their full operation. They needed not programming but registering to the cars chassis to allow full functionality. I would start by checking all body earth points, BMW love multiple earth points and earth switching so make sure they are good being parked up could have allowed corrosion to start, it wont take much. Use www.realoem.com to check if any enabling codes are needed for the audio/nav system. The steering angle sensor normally calibrates itself if the car is driven forward while going lock to lock What diagnostic system are you using Dave

      Morning Taysir Welcome to the Forum As your "mechanic" had drained the transmission and removed the sump and filter to change solenoids he then put back using old contaminated Fluid and possibly/probably a used contaminated filter ????? it just doesn't make sense. Find another transmission specialist (preferably ZF) and get the trans diagnosed and the fluid flushed and changed Good Luck Dave

      E66 76Li - help needed with errors

      Thanks for your reply David Donor vehicle was exact same spec as my car. comfort heated seats, logic 7, night vision, rear entertainment, fridge, rear air con vents on roof lining, rear window blinds, soft close. There has been no coding done, only the parts have been swapped including a replacement steering angle sensor. Do we have a programming expert on here? Also, audio was working fine when complete logic 7 system was moved from donor car to mine and it worked in my car after swap as well. Car was parked up for winter/rainy months. Started it up 2 weeks ago, installed a brand new Bosch AGM battery which is the correct battery for the car. However, audio system doesn't work anymore. I can't press any icons on the screen using the idrive button.
