is there a way to turn off the service indicator on the dash without plugging it in to anything.

    Assuming you have an E46 Try this:

    - Press and hold trip meter button down and turn ignitiion key to accesory position.

    - Hold until you see 'reset'.

    - Release and immediately press and hold again for 5 seconds, until 'reset' flashes.

    - Release and press again.
