After my local garage put 6 gallons of petrol in my 'starship' and supposedly put it right I've got a car that struggles to get to 60 in under 14s and finds it hard to exceed 80.

The garage are investigating and have checked filters, fuel, turbo etc but can't get it going. Their equipment says there's a fault with the lambda sensor but BMW deny that my model has this sensor.

Anyone got any ideas?

What year is she mate?

Welcome along too

It has got one mate 'oxygen sensor'

Dabsy is prob your best man for this, he will be on tonight.

You may find this of interest, not aimed at BMW's thouggh

Thx Gav...

The Lambda sensor is primarily there to control Emissions (have a look at Gav's Link), a bit like an EGR valve does too, did they have a look at the EGR valve?

The EGR does exactly what it says - Exhaust Gas Recyle - If this is pushing exhaust gases back into the cylinders continuously (stuck) then you get a "choking" effect as there is less oxygen to burn hence lack of power!

IMO it could be one or both of these, the Lambda and/or the EGR Valve... If you also bring a dirty throttle body, chances are that your car is very hard on fuel...

Has the diesel pump been looked at? Normally very reliable but it could be as simple as a failed seal on the pump... Just a thought...

might not be it, but i though ill post it:

"Recalls: July 10, 2002, due to an ECU software error, fuel pump might not work fast enough once fuel level drops below 30 litres; 832 cars affected, ECU to be reprogrammed."

could it be a MAF sensor... sorry i have an obsession about these after getting thru 4 of em in 3 months on my old van....

My money is on dabsy! Gonna be a egr valve

Roll up, roll up all bets are open.........LOL
