Petrol V Diesel

Recommended Posts

pro's and cons............?

from my prospective, diesels are harder to work on, usually cost more in servicing, and consumables (tyres, as the front end is heavier, so need changing more often, from my prospective of course, may be wrong), but better fuel consumption, lower tax.

petrol, usually easier to work in the engine bay, less complicated, quieter.

big question really though, is can the petrols easily do the same mileages as the diesel equivalent?

I hate Diesels, however, I rebuilt a 2.5 Intercooler Turbo last summer and found it easier to work on than a petrol...

Also, newer Diesels can be just as quick/powerful as their Petrol counterparts

In my opinion, a petrol car is generally easier to diagnose when it develops a fault. Whereas the Diesel tends to reveal any fault gradually.

I'm going to get a little "Political" here Gav...

As for lower taxes on lower emissions, this is Governmental BullCrap, carbon dioxides and monoxides are consumed via plant life, like you learned in Biology... So why do they keep destroying greenbelt?

BTW I'm definately NOT a tree-hugger :P

I think that diesals are in fashion at the moment but will be extinct long before petrols.

Firstly diesals are not faster then petrols, they need a turbo to be as fast as petrol. They do generate more torque but i really don't think that this "feels" as fast as a high bhp car.

ultimately though petrols are able to run on lpg and diesals are able to run on veg oil.

veg oil is a comodity where as lpg is a by product that has to be used one way or another.

Gotta be petrol for me gav, all tho I do like the turbo diesel, with petrol engines you only need to stick an m3 exhaust and k&n air filter and it sounds so good! But you do them mods to a diesel.. It will still sound like a tractor! But they both have there pros and cons.....
