Hello All,

I'm the proud owner of an 02 plate 320d (SE) Model and until recently has been fine. However, the cold weather has bough about problems. In the cold freezing conditions, it has been struggling to start. During these conditions, it takes about 10 minutes to start, having turned the key for a few bursts, then leaving it for a minute or so and trying again. The glow plugs have been changed, but the problem is till there. Yesterday and this morning it started first time. In addition to this, I have noticed (heard) the fuel pump priming the system, but during the cold, I don't hear it until the second or third turn of the ignition.

If anyone has experienced similar problems or anyone can offer me a possible solution to the problem, this would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you.

Pash

I thought modern diesels dont have to wait for glow plugs to heat, I could be wrong but the few diesels that i have driven do not have to wait, fires up

Always try it.. turn the ignition on, wait 5 secs then fire her up.

Hi lads,

Thanks for welcoming me to the forum.

and also thanks for the advice .... much appreciated. Just to let you know, the glow plugs have been changed a few weeks ago, but the problem is still there...worse in freezing conditions. It's been fine the last few days when the temperature has been moderate....so it's definately a cold start issue....any more ideas guys...
