Bmw 118d f20 2011 clunking sound from driverside wheel area

Bmw 118d clunking noise (like driving on cats eyes on motorway) but only in top end of second gear? Every other gear is fine at any speed but when pushing it say between 3-4k revs it does that noise, not all the time but a majority of the time and only in top end of second

Hi Daniel

Welcome to the Forum

From your description if the noise only happens in one gear and at certain revs it would seem to me to point towards a Gearbox problem  

A gearbox service may help but to be certain you would need the help of a Gearbox specialist. Or if you have DIY skills you could fit an exchange box yourself (don't forget new clutch)

      As an after thought just checked my rear sensor it had been dislodged and set back so was seeing th bumper edge as a hazard, Dohhh So check they are all sitting right Dave

      2023 X3 Rear Bumper Problems

      Dave, the piece i I'm referring to is about 4" tall and runs the width of the bumper. It seems to be a systemic problem. The clips do not hold it in place. Has this problem been reported previously? As I said BMW has tried to fix it twice and even put in a new black insert.

      SLIPPING CLUTCH

      Hi Andrew A quick look at www.realoem.com shows it has a Dualmass Flywheel Part No.21207533869 Alternates are Part No's 21207527482 and 21207526107 Whoever your talking to they don't inspire confidence !! A Dualmass flywheel I guess would be around the £500 to £700 mark a good quality clutch kit Pressure plate Clutch plate Release bearing and Arm from someone like Sachs would be another £250 I have seen LUK kits for around the £800 mark complete the unanswered question is will you DIY or pay someone to fit it. If DIY is your route the car needs to be high enough to allow the Gearbox to be supported and lowered it is going to be heavy. Always use new flywheel bolts and clutch mount bolts and torque them correctly. Good Luck Dave

      SLIPPING CLUTCH

      I checked again yesterday and was told they didn't know if it had a dual mass flywheel but if it had, it would be £1000 , if I didn't wand the dual mass flywheel they will not give any warranty on the clutch plate or flywheel.
