Hi. In the past my roof leaked and took out the amp - giving me a NO WARNING TONES error. I replaced the amp and it worked fine for 6 months, however I have no sounds again, but this time I DONT have the No warning tones error. No errors at all. 
 

is it likely to be the amp again, or something else? Could my aftermarket car play module be playing up?

    Difficult to answer as it could be either one, can you disconnect your Car play module ?

    Check all connections to make certain it's not something as simple as a loose connector. If disconnecting the Car play works you have the culprit if not you could try talking to someone like Cartronix they well known for fixing BMW systems
