Hi I have a 1 series coupe 2009 manual seats I have swapped the seats to fully electric but they don’t work lot of errors on dash airbag and heated seats are not working can anyone suggestions to get around the probly

Morning Ray

First which car did the powered seats come from? Check realoem.com (if you haven't already) put the last 7 digits of your Vin in the search box. Were electric adjustment an option for your car? Make sure the seats you have correct for your model. Was the loom correct under the seat?

Assuming they are (If I recall some only had electric drivers seat) then depending on the software version your car runs the seat may need coding to your car.

Let us know how you get on

Hi Dave

not to sure what car they came from because the guy changed them before he sold them to me ? But I will check what you have suggested thanks

Hi Ray

Yesterday I spoke with a friend who is a an Independent BMW Specialist he raised some questions (1) I series only had powered Drivers seats when they were fitted. (2) Was the correct wiring loom used ? Or has power been taken from somewhere else ?

He says if retro fitted a powered driver seat should be straight forward. The seat airbags being disconnected while the battery is still connected will trigger the "airbag" light. Heated seats again did the car come with them? Or are they part of the retro fit?

I would disconnect the seats and do the research, check the seat electrics are OK Test resistance and continuity in the heaters. DONT mess with the airbags setting one of them off accidentally you don't need. Check the internet for wiring diagrams that may help

Good Luck

Hi Dave
thank you for your information the original seat only had lumber support and heated seats the yellow plug on the car has lots of cables the new seats from a other car is fully electric but I was reading a web site you can unplug the yellow plugs after the ignition switch is on for 30 second I can operate the full function on the seats but is is not ideal I think the seats just might need codeing to the car? I am have a stage 1 remap so I will ask if they can do this I hope

Hi I need some help with my seats please

the original seats had heated seats and were manual adjustment the new seats are out of a series e99 full powered

just don’t work I know about a can bus systems the seats need to talk to the car but looking at the pugs under the seat the pins and wires don’t match and the airbag light is on all the time

can any help please

Hi Ray

Still struggling then I don't recognise the E99 but E90 to E93 were/are 3 series cars after the code changed to F30 + and G28 + which would explain the different connectors and loom on the seats

First check the seat for part numbers which should help identify which model it came from. Then it's down to detective work look for information on Pinout for (a) Your car and (b) the seat you have that way you can identify which wires do what. Once you know what each does you may be able to either buy connector that matches your cars loom (only if the pinout information tells you all functions are covered) a morning changing connectors on the seat may fix things. If the pinout show the same functionality seat heaters and airbags but no power adjustment it may be possible to bring your own power for the seats through an independent fused spur again using a matching connector to keep it all tidy.

Dave.
